SQL Server Adapter

Has anyone found a way of connecting to MS SQL or some other decent PC DB without using the thunked ODBC Adapter. I really need a way around this as the load on my site is increasing and this bottleneck is making my Zope powered server look like a real dog.

They are on the filesystem, for Image object probably in lib/python/OFS. I wouldn't change the documents on file, but rather copy them into new methods of your new class and override the behavior you wish to 'tweak'. -Michel

Zope and Midgard article in IT WEEK (UK)

The first sighting (by me anyway) of anything about Zope in a UK computer mag. See article by Lee Kimber entitled "An app server free-for-all" in 17 Jan issue of IT Week or http://www.zdnet.co.uk/itweek/analysis/2000/02/internet/ (the paper version features a mugshot of Paul Everitt and so is clearly a must-have for true Zope groupies ;-) ) I thought the final paragraphs were an interesting take: "[But] both Zope and Midgard rely on easily learned and well-known scripting languages for even the most technical aspects of their configuration. That puts them just a short climb up the learning curve for those developers who built today's Web applications using Perl CGI scripts. That ease of development raises another, intriguing possibility: that companies that want to add features will be able to do so with the same ease that Microsoft's Visual Basic made possible when companies wanted to build custom business applications out of Microsoft's Office In making Visual Basic so accessible, Microsoft spawned an entire VB office application industry. Yes, this is a common new user error. It is often manefisted by using the wrong URLx value (like URL instead of URL1 etc). This makes an object, or set of objects, acquire from itself: http://host/object/object/object/object.... or http://host/A/B/A/B/A/B... Threre is nothing inheritly wrong in this, you will allways get the correct object (and I beleive acquisition is smart enough to short circuit an object wrapped by itself) but it is a programming error, and eventually web servers and clients will complain about URL being too long (there is no rfc defined standard URL 'maximum' length). -Michel

Extending Standard Objects

In my experimentations with Zope, I'm trying to extend the Image object to include caption information and formatting. I've created a ZClass which has Image as one of the base classes. I'm a little confused as to what to do next. For example, what properties do I need to defined. Do I just define the caption property? Do I inherit any properties from Image itself? I also noticed that because I subclassed from Image, certain views are created for me by default. The "Edit" view is defined to use manage_main. The "Upload" view uses manage_uploadForm. If I want to enhance the functionality of the Edit and Upload view, do I just need to create new methods on my ZClass and point the view at the new method? If I wanted my views to look just like the normal views (manage_main and manage_uploadForm) with only minor tweaking, where would I find the source to those methods? Thanks James W. I have an SQLMethod (SQLRicercaAnnuncio) that accept a parameter "Parola:tokens" The sql statement is: select * from annunci <dtml-sqlgroup where> <dtml-in Parola> <dtml-unless sequence-start> or </dtml-unless> testo like '%<dtml-var sequence-item>%' </dtml-in> </dtml-sqlgroup> When I test it from inside zope environment it does work properly. I declared an dtml method with an input field named "EditParola". DateTime arithmetic behaviour question

The question is: in "<aDateTime> + 1", ¿the integer 1 should be one day or 24 hours? And a second question, There is another DateTime module for python called mxDateTime which seems to be better, why Zope doesn't use this one? Thanks, David
