Storing objects with SQLSession
by Nemeth Miklos 04 Jan '00

Is there a way to store complex objects in session objects, or SQLSession can store string values? I have not tested so far FSSession, but its announcement states that it is capable of storing lists (I suppose list of strings only). Does SQLSession also support storing list of strings? NM

SQLSession can store anything that Python's cPickle can handle. The maximum object size depends on the database, and on how you define the table (the size of the varchar). Connection reset by peer - ZServer problem ?
by chas 04 Jan '00

Using just ZServer (not apache/pcgi), I've been getting intermittent "Connection reset by peer" errors. The annoying thing is that sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't. But it only occurs when submitting forms. I remember running Netscape webservers a few years back, we would get the same problem (which was solved when I moved to Apache). Is there some way to get ZServer to stop doing this or must I use the Apache/Zope mix instead ? Thank you, chas

Hmm.. IIRC, dtml-var caches retrieved named objects. The first time it actually looks up x, the next invocation on a page it will reuse that value. This only within one call to a page, the next time the page is called, x is retrieved once again.

Call does exactly the same as var, only it will ignore any values returned by the called expression or name. So <dtml-call standard_html_header> will usually have no effect whatsoever, except for waisting a few cycles, unless standard_html_header has side like manipulating the REQUEST object.

It's WikiWiki done in Zope. See: http://www.zope.org/Members/simon/ZWiki

publishing a group of linked html files
by Chris WRIGHT 04 Jan '00

I've got a whole lot of html files (produced by latex2html). I want to publish them with Zope, and I'm not sure of the best way. If I add a File object for every html file (and for the .css files), then I can get the thing published, but the URL's start to look like: www.blah.blah/node1.html/node2.html/node3.html and the "previous" and "next" buttons don't perform properly (Object not found errors). Is there a "well know" (tm) way of publishing a "tree" of html docs by just "pointing" to the top level file. This would also be much more convenient when publishing revisions. (Zope is being used in an Intensive Care Unit to publish the unit policies and procedures. Soon, through the magic of Fnorb and external methods, it will be used to publish data from bedside workstationss and monitoring equipment!) cheers and thanks chris wright

Gadfly
by Nemeth Miklos 04 Jan '00

The Gadfly shipped with Zope is really useful only for demo purposes, what to do if I want to use Gadfly for production (in a real life ecommerce application) purposes (storing business data, SQLSession's data)? This text is shown by Zope: "The Zope Gadfly product is a free Zope database adapter intended for demonstration purposes only. It is only suitable for learning about Zope SQL Methods. Database operations are performed in memory, so it should not be used to create large databases. This installation is using a non-optimized version of Gadfly and should not be used to assess the performance of either Gadfly or Zope." NM
