apache fastcgi and -pass-header

I've been trying to get apache, fastcgi, and zope to all play kindly with each other. So far things have gone fairly smootly, but i've gotten stuck with the '-pass-header' tag i'm suppose to include on the FastCgiExternalServer line in my httpd.conf file. Whenever i add this tag, apache gripes by saying: FastCgiExternalServer: invalid option: -pass-header I suppose i could just leave these out and try to access the zope server directly when i need to authenticate, but it would be nice if i could get it working right. Thanks sRp btw, zope simply rocks! I'm currently trying to sell the rest of the is department here at the school on it so that they don't do something stupid like go out and buy spectra.

Documentation Solution

As a member of the ZDP, as well as several other Documentation Projects, I understand exactly where these complaints are coming from. I'm still in the learning stage of Zope, and I admit, am stumbling over the current *official* documentation; nonetheless, I think I'm gaining a foothold. I'm not going to say what Digital Creations should do about this dilemma, but present several options: 1. Create a good communication with the ZDP. As far as I know, not much if any of the ZDP's effort has made it into official documentation. Let's encourage eachother, not point fingers. Let writers know that they are needed; even better, compile a list of EXACTLY what needs to be written/updated. 2. Have volunteers mine the mail archives and compile notes. There is TONS of excellent questions/answers to real world situations on everything Zope. Let's start going through and indexing them. 3. Put together TUTORIALS. If you know how to do something, document it. I'm sure someone would appreciate it. Contact the ZDP, and we'll put up a good collection. 4. Proofread. Many of the Official Guides have typos and broken code examples. Let Pam know. A simple page# description would help ALOT. 5. NEWBIES: Instead of just requesting help on something, request someone to make a How-to. This is another way we can gather priceless material instead of letting it dissolve into the mail archives. 6. A Hypertext help-system integrated into the Zope installation. 7. What tools? Here are some tools we could decide to use for docs (+/-): - DocBook SGML/XML DTD: Powerful, standardized; yet complex - VERY complex. - StarOffice: good Word Processor, supports multi-user docs (redlining, etc.), free; Big, some say bloated. - Structured Text: native to Zope, easy to write in; not functional enough, can't convert to different formats easily - CONGLOMERATE: This could be our answer - an XML-based Document editing/management system, FREE (GPL'd); not yet completed... (www.conglomerate.org) I thing Conglomerate could be our solution. But for now, let's bump heads and work together, and put reality back into check. Eron Lloyd

dtml-sendmail problems

When I use the smtp host as in <dmtl-sendmail smtphost="mail.whatever.com" mailto=someone(a)where.com mailfrom=me(a)whatever.com subject="this is the subject> body </dtml-sendmail> Then the mail gets sent, but the subject line never appears in the email sent. I also can't include a variable in the mailto parameter. If I send it this way instead ... <dmtl-sendmail smtphost="mail.whatever.com"> To: <<dtml-var EMAIL>> From: <me(a)whatever.com> Subject: "this is the subject" body </dtml-sendmail> then I get the following error - spelling mistake and all Recieved error code 553 from SMTP: 553 ... Domain name required. This error also appears if I use the mailhost object. My site is pointed to by several front-page URLs on slashdot today. CPU load is never going above 20% and right now it's about 1%. The wire is a 768K bit per second SDSL. The system is a pentium III 450 with 128MB RAM. Don't let anyone tell you that Python is too slow. Bruce

Zope.org's news product

Really, it seems that the way news is implemented at Zope.org is what we'd like. So, DC folks, would it be possible to make it available? Hi, Robin Hmmm... user is a variable that is assigned when you first login. BUT the beginning of formframe only checks to see if there is [somewhere!] a non-nil variable called message, AHA! So, Robin, I will bet you have a 'message' on the acquisition path. ZOPE and PHP3

I am haveing a problem with images and Zope I get them into Zope but I don't seem to be using the  tag right. I have put the files in a sub folder for the one I am in called graphics. I can do a find from the Zope root folder and get the images back but not from the folder I need them. I did put one in the same fold and it did come up with a <var tag> and I can use an <img scr="graphics/%file_jpg%">. What am I doing wrong here, It must be something simple. Also Can you use ZCatalog to create a searchable image lib ? Any thought on that would be great. Thanks Ozric --
