RE: technical support dept. product

I am also interested in a problem tracking solution. I was thinking about using the ZRTChat product as a starting point to create something because I like the way the frames are seperated. I have some preliminary thoughts, but I do not know if they are valid or practical. 1. The upper and lower frames could be used for placing icons/links to functions such as open ticket, close ticket, search for information in all tickets and etc. 2. The middle frame would be used for displaying open tickets, closed tickets, individual tickets, returned items from a search and etc. 3. Each ZRTChat message would be like an entry in the log for tracking a problem. 4. There would have to be a method for generating new problem tickets/(ZRTChat objects) 5. more to be added if this is valid way to start. I have some questions about the above ideas. 1. Is this a valid way to start, or should something be created from scratch? 2. Is there a good reason not to use the zodb database to store all of the info from the problem tickets? (IOW: Should the data be stored in Postgres or MySql?) 3. How do you go about superclassing the ZRTChat to create new problem tickets? 4. How do you go about making the data items searchable? (ZCatalog or other?) clarence T. Pate

zope & fastcgi again

hi again i have successfully installed zope with fastcgi. how can i make the site accessable from http://www.mysite.com/ instead of http://www.mysite.com/zope this rewrite in apache wont work, because i think it rewrites the url and showeither error 404 if the file zope is not there, or shows the doc "zope" itself. FastCgiExternalServer /home/httpd/html/zope -host localhost:8999 -pass-header Authorization RewriteRule ^/(.*) /home/httpd/html/zope$1 [l] <Location /zope> Options ExecCGI SetHandler fastcgi-script </location> furthermore, accessing the site with http://www.mysite.com/x/ results in broken images and broken links since the base url changes, i think. e.g this is ok if i access thru http://www.mysite.com/zope/ index_html <dtml-var standard_html_header> <body>my <dtml-var title> <dtml-var "images.myimage.absolute_url()"> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> this is not, results in broken links, images. the folders images is there. <dtml-var standard_html_header> <body>my <dtml-var title> <img src="/images/<dtml-var myimage>"> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> the solution i see is hardcoding the extra reference, but i have to do all this for my pages and some products downloaded from zope.org. am i missing something? enlighten me oo gurus.. thks ------------------------------------------------------ http://www.kedai.com.my/kk Am I Evil?

Well, I'm not suprised to find out that it was something I was doing wrong. However, the symptons still sound fairly similar and I wouldn't be suprised it someone his site is doing something similar. Also, I tried : x = Zope.app() x.close() And it complains that x has no attribute close. any ideas? Reverse sort w/ dtml-in
by Chuck Burdick (TT) 09 Dec '99

09 Dec '99

I'm trying to implement some database interaction in Zope. I'm using ZSQL and <dtml-in> tags to display the data on the web page. The data has a date in it, and I would like to sort so that most recent is first. However, I see no mention of a "reverse" option with the sorting capability of the <dtml-in> tag. Is there a way to script the reverse sorting in DTML, or do I have to do all my sorting inside the database query (ZSQL method)? form question
by Dennis Moore 09 Dec '99

09 Dec '99

I have a form that gathers a information in a dtml document. The form action is a dtml method which shows this information for the user to verify in a new form. The problem is that somewhere along the way, letter is no longer a list. I've tried making NAME="letter:list" in the first document, but that doesn't help. I think the solution is in the hidden input in the first method. When i make letter = <dtml-var letter> it's just a string and not a list. How do I make it a list? On a related note, if I only select one of the checkboxes, it doesn't get passed as a list (single element), but just as a bare string when it gets to the sql method. Then dtml-in doesn't work on the variable. How do I test to see if the variable is a list, or cast it to one in dtml-in? Also, is there a better way of propagating the namespace? This is just an oversimplified version of what I'm actually trying to do. I would rather not have to make a 'hidden' line for every variable I want to pass. I hope a comprehensive, up to date, DTML reference appears soon. Thanks in advance.. ### dtml document cb_test: <h2></h2> <p> This is the Document. <form action=PerformCbVerify method=POST> <INPUT TYPE="checkbox" NAME="letter" VALUE="a"> A<BR> <INPUT TYPE="checkbox" NAME="letter" VALUE="b"> B<BR> <INPUT TYPE="checkbox" NAME="letter" VALUE="c"> C<BR> <INPUT TYPE="checkbox" NAME="letter" VALUE="d"> D<BR> <p> <INPUT TYPE =submit NAME=submit VALUE=Submit> <INPUT TYPE=reset> </form> </p> ### dtml method PerformCbVerify: <H2> </H2> <P>This is the Document in the Folder.</P> You picked: <form action=PerformCbTest> <dtml-in letter> "<dtml-var sequence-item>" <dtml-if sequence-end>. <dtml-else>and </dtml-if> <dtml-else>null </dtml-in> <p> <INPUT TYPE=hidden NAME=letter VALUE="<dtml-var letter>"> <INPUT TYPE =submit NAME=submit VALUE=Submit> </form> ### dtml method PerformCbTest: <H2> </H2> <P>This is the Document in the Folder.</P> <dtml-call sqlCbInsert> ### sql method sqlCbInsert: insert into mytable (letter) values ( <dtml-in letter> <dtml-if sequence-start>'{ </dtml-if> "<dtml-var sequence-item>" <dtml-if sequence-end>}' <dtml-else>, </dtml-if> <dtml-else>null </dtml-in>) -- pity this busy monster, manunkind, | Dennis Moore | Sarah not. Trapping external database errors
by Henny van der Linde 08 Dec '99

08 Dec '99

Hi, I have a Zope site connected to a SQL-server 7 database. It's nescesary to update, add information through the Zope site. Is there a elegant way to trap errors generated by the external database server. Now, when an user enters a invalid date for example, Zope simply returns a standard error page, with some information generated (i guess) from the ODBC adapter. I know the right thing to do is validating the fields before submitting the form (I have a question on this matter wich I posted earlier). But that said: it must be possible evaluate/trap the outcome of a external database transaction in an elegant way. thanks Henny van der Linde

Zope Weekly News
by Mike Pelletier 08 Dec '99

08 Dec '99

G'day, Zope Weekly News is a digest of some of the useful and interesting events which have occurred in the Zope universe. It is published each Wednesday evening. Any opinions contained in the Zope Weekly News are those of the chronicler exclusively. New Products * "faassen" released ZFormulator 0.1: "ZFormulator is a product that can assist with the creation of HTML forms, their validation and processing. The Zope user can construct forms from within the Zope management interface." "Neat feature: eats its own dogfood (ZFormulator is built with ZFormulator!)" http://www.zope.org/Members/faassen/ZFormulator * "vladap" released MySQL User Folder. It allows you to store user information in a MySQL database. http://www.zope.org/Members/vladap/mysqlUserFolder * "phd" has submitted an early development release of mod_pcgi2(0.0.1). Presumably, this moves the wafer-thin C stub PCGI employs into Apache's process, eliminating the so-called fork tax. http://www.zope.org/Members/phd/mod_pcgi2/mod_pcgi2_v0.0.1 Announcements * Digital Creations has partnered with Fast Engines to add support for their FastServ product. FastServ provides advanced load-balancing (even within a heterogenous server environment) and works with industry standard web servers. http://www.digicool.com/News/FastEngines * Digital Creations has announced that an early 2000 Zope release will include support for two open protocols heavily supported by Microsoft: the Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP) and Web Distributed Authoring and Versioning (WebDAV) protocol. http://www.digicool.com/News/integrate * Another press release from DC: Jon Udell will be delivering a keynote at the Zope Track of the 8th International Python Convention. http://www.digicool.com/News/Udell * "TWilson" announced a special interest group on the subject of Zope and educators. The group is still in it's formative period, so get involved now to help plan it's future. http://www.zope.org/Members/TWilson/Zope-edu * Tom Deprez <tom.deprez(a)uz.kuleuven.ac.be> reported on the state of the Zope Documentation Project. http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope-dev/1999-December/002524.html * Eduardo Fernandez Corrales <efernandez(a)sistelnet.es> has a Spanish Zope portal and mailing list. http://zope.sistelnet.es/ http://zope.sistelnet.es/cgi-bin/mailman/listinfo/hispazope * Paul Everitt sent out a reminder that it's time to register for the Zope Track at the 8th International Python Conference. http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/1999-December/015052.html Updates * Zope 2.1.0 final has been released! This release includes many bug fixes, speed improvements and new features. http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.1.0/ A log of everything that has changed is also available. http://www.zope.org/Products/Zope/2.1.0/CHANGES.txt Zope.org items * Zope Resources is changing slightly. Zope Hosting Providers is being replaced with a more general page, Zope Solution Providers. http://www.zope.org/Resources * "Zen" submitted a pair of tips about Zope's little-known 'manage_debug' method, which can provide profiling information and information useful for debugging connection problems. http://www.zope.org/Members/Zen/tips/profiling http://www.zope.org/Members/Zen/tips/manage_debug * "tseaver" reported a LinuxPlanet review of Zope. Kevin Reichard (the reviewer) brings with him a fresh perspective as someone coming from outside the "Zope community". He gives Zope an overall 4/5 rating and raises a number of concerns, some valid, some perhaps less so. Kevin represents a demographic destined to become the majority of Zope users (namely, those who view Zope as a tool rather than as a way of life. ;-) ) and so his review deserves careful consideration. http://www.linuxplanet.com/linuxplanet/reviews/1319/1/ Notable Discussions * Rodrigo <rdeleonp(a)yahoo.com> posted a query about using Zope with SSL. The common solution is to use Zope with Apache, IIS or Netscape Server to provide a secure connection. David Kankiewicz <kankie(a)thegrid.net> cited an old post about a product which gives ZServer the ability to establish SSL connections! http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/1999-December/015061.html http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/1999-December/015063.html http://lists.zope.org/pipermail/zope/1999-December/015065.html -- Mike Pelletier.

Henny: Hmm.. you mention below that you are using the latest ODBC driver. The error strongly implies that it's not the current one.
