New site using Zope technology

Hello... I am glad to announce our first public beta of the site we have been developing for the last month. It's all done in Zope served through Apache. We have some glitches to work, but it's already functional. It's a site with financial information for Argentina. Acquire variable for ZCatalog indexing?

I asked this previously, and got no replies. I'll give it one more shot. When making a Z Catalog of a certain class of object, is it possible to acquire a variable from parent objects? I'd like to define category_id as a property of a folder, and then have my Z Catalog pick up that property when it is indexing the objects in the folder. Is this currently possible? If not, wouldn't it be a handy enhancement? :)

Zope stability

Hello Everyone, We are using Zope for one of our sites but Zope died as of yesterday. (refer to Chas' posts) This was totally out of the blue and is quite shocking. (Zope is still down after 24 hours) The question I'd like to raise to the entire list regards Zope's stability. We are running Zope integrated with Apache off FreeBSD3.2 . As far as I know, this is not such an exotic setup (probably rather common?). As Chas explained previously, Zope just suddenly died. Teodore also had the same error occur and solved it by rebooting his server. How often has this occured with other people? Are there any good solutions regarding providing a backup in case Zope does die? (and keep the site running) Are there any serious Zope instability issues which need to be discussed and alerted? Zope woes continue - server going down regularly. (possible solution)

This was interesting cause the actual Zope.app() call worked, except it would eventually hose the server. I figured I was just doing something wrong and figured out another way to do it. Anyway, here's how to reproduce the problem : Create a external method that looks like this : import Zope def helloworld(self): x = Zope.app() return "Hello World" --------- If you call that external method 5 or 6 times it will crash your Zope. Also, if you attempt to do this inside a Python product it will have the same effect. Chas, my suggestion to do you is search all of your external methods and all of your 3rd party python products for anyone importing Zope. Just an aside, for those of you who don't know, the reason anyone would want to do an import Zope, Zope.app() inside an external method is that allows you to get at other objects in your site without explicitly having to pass them in. But when we find bugs that hurt our customers, we fix them right away, so there is not much point in a public display of them because they are allready fixed, there is not much value earned in this. Cache question

Hello. I have a site running on Zope... We are having an increasing number of hits... Not much right now but increasing... Is there a documented way to change the cache parameters to reduce the "connect time" to our Zope? I mean, sometime ago on this list there was a similar problem with the Zope.org site and was solved by simply changing the cache parameters... TIA /B

Zope 2.1 does NOT work with NT Apache!

Hi there, I apologize for writing such a strong title, but I can't get Zope 2.1 to work with NT Apache at all, and my previous message (more extensive) describing my problems went unanswered. I realize installation issues are an impopular topic. The binary distributation is insufficient, because no Zope.cgi is included. The documention is insufficient, because it is unix-specific; it talks about passing command line options to Zope, but Zope on NT can be ran as a Service, and how to pass command line options then? There may be a bug, as a manually constructed Zope.cgi makes the Zope installation 'spin'. See my previous mail to this list for more information. I can't get it to work at all, and I need to get it to work within the week. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Martijn
