SQL Session provides SQL database-based session objects, keyed to browser cookies. User access / acl_users

Hi. In the neverending series of questions from me, I give you another: Is both the userdb and GenericUserFolder compatible with the original acl_users? I.e, can I develop my site with the basic acl_users functionality, and add one of the two products later on? Or should I start using one of those products right away? I need cookie authentication, but I don't think I understand enough Zope yet to see the big picture, security-wise. And the documentation for GenericUserFolder isn't exactly stunning (not from the newbie spot atleast, no offence :) I would like to concentrate on the main functionality of my site, and add this functionality when my zope zen is a bit better. I'm not doing a horrible mistake thinking that way? Regards, Alexander Limi

arrays in sql methods and dtml-in

I have a document with a checkbox group in it. This group corresponds to an array in my Postgres database. So, for example, the user does this: Letters: [ ] A [x] B [ ] C [x] D Then my dtml method gets: ['B', 'D'] which i would like to insert into my database. In Postgres, a normal array insertion looks like: insert into foo (letters) values ('{"B", "D"}'); so i tried this: <dtml-with REQUEST> INSERT INTO foo ( letters ) VALUES ( <dtml-in letters> <dtml-if sequence-start> '{ </dtml-if> "<dtml-sqlvar sequence-item type=string>" <dtml-if sequence-end> '} </dtml-if> <dtml-else> null </dtml-in> ) </dtml-with> This gives me the error: Error Type: InError Error Value: Strings are not allowed as input to the in tag. Browsing Local File System with a ZOPE-like Interface

I'd like to create a standalone python program which browses the hard drive of a server using the ZOPE Content Manager style interface. (Expandable Menus on the left, contents on the right, etc.) Does ZOPE separate the Content Manager functions into a module(s) which could be taken and dropped into a standalone application such as this? Tree ordering?

ZODB Storage Error

Several times lately, we've seen our development Zope server (running CVS of a few days ago) go into a mode where all requests return back this: Error Type: TransactionError Error Value: A serious error, which was probably a system error, occurred in a previous database transaction. This application may be in an invalid state and must be restarted before database updates can be allowed. Beware though that if the error was due to a serious system problem, such as a disk full condition, then the application may not come up until you deal with the system problem. See your application log for information on the error that lead to this problem. The only thing in the log is this: 1999-11-24T05:51:23 PANIC(300) ZODB An storage error occurred in the last phase of a two-phase commit. This shouldn't happen. The application may be in a hosed state, so we will not allow transactions to commit from here on How can I debug this further??? Help? Anthony

Zope 2.x bug in loading products

After further experiments, I am ready to call my earlier report a bug. In brief: After a failed import of a product which results in a traceback, if the bug is fixed but the product still won't load, the product manager still reports a failed load with the old traceback. Here are more details. I will upload a zip file with the offending product to my zope site when this is done. I have reproduced the results under Zope 2.0.1 and 2.1.0b2. I am running on NT 4, SP 4. Here's the sequence to reproduce the problem: 1) Unzip OrgUser in the Products directory. 2) Edit the 3rd line of OrgUser.py to read import nonsense 3) start zope 4) Go to the management control panel, products. OrgUser is reported as a broken product, with a traceback indicating a failure to import nonsense. This is *not* the bug; it is proper behavior. 5) Shutdown Zope 6) Edit OrgUser.py to comment out import nonsense 7) Restart Zope 8) The management control panel for products still shows the same as in step 4. This *is* a bug, since that line no longer exists. I presume there is some other problem with the product which prevents if from loading. 9) If you want shutdown Zope and delete the database. Recreate it. Now you will see no report of OrgUser in the Products listing. This indicates that when the product fails to load, it leaves the old error message in place. I suspect this problem may be caused by a problem in the interaction of error reporting with transactions boundaries. I see that when there's an error, various actions are taken and then the transaction is aborted. Perhaps this throws out the correct error information.
