RE: [Zope] Web-Based Educational Systems using Zope?

> Hi. Has anyone built a web-based educational system (tracking > assignments and grades, distributing lecture notes, etc.) using > Zope? If so, I'd be grateful for a pointer. I'm sure there are projects in various states all over. Someone recently posted a solicitation for people to help him develop something just like this. I, for one, think a project like this would be awesome... --Rob

Hello, I wondered is in Zope there any 'legal' way to create I/O filters? Filters may be extremely useful in certain situations, especially when one needed handle multiple character sets. Thanks, Mike

Hi All! I am just a Zope beginners and I am studing it to make sure it is a good choice to develop an internet application I have been required. This application has quite a lot of data (the biggest table is about 100.000 records) with a lot of people quering it. >From the experts I would like some information: -Is Zope the right tool to develop this kind of application? -Is Zope not to much young to develop this kind of application? -Is it really stable? -Which database server is better to use? (Interbase, Oracle, MS SQL) -Which SO is better to use? (Linux, NT) -Which HTTP server is better to use? (Apache, ZServer, IIS) -Do you have general considerations to make to me? I know these questions are general but I need them to make me taking the right way! Local howto's...
by Magnus Heino 24 Nov '99

24 Nov '99

Hi. I dont know if anyone else but me want this, but anyway: I only have ISDN at home. I therefore want to keep a copy of all Zope Howto's locally. This script will download all howtos currently available. It is just a quick hack, but it does what I want. #! /bin/zsh -f wget -r -l 1 http://www.zope.org/Members/magnus/Howto cd www.zope.org cp -f Members/magnus/Howto index.html sed 's/\/Documentation/Documentation/' index.html >tmp.html rm -f index.html sed 's/\/Members/Members/' tmp.html > index.html rm -f tmp.html sed 's/?pp=1//' index.html >tmp.html mv -f tmp.html index.html for file in `find . -name "*index_html*"`; do mv -f $file `echo $file | sed 's/?pp=1//'`; done cd .. echo "Done! `find . -name "*index_html*"|wc -l` How-To's are available at `pwd`/www.zope.org/index.html"

CONFLICT Competing writes?
by Li Dongfeng 24 Nov '99

24 Nov '99

Hi, I used a dtml method called run_program_action to process user form input, using the POST method and ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data". When I tried to submit simutaneously from two browser window, I got this error message from the Z Server console: 1999-11-24T06:43:40 INFO(0) Z2 CONFLICT Competing writes at, /Stat/rserver/simu01/run_program_action ----- form ----- {} Where the line below -- form -- should display my form input. But in the two submissions only one got the desired resonse, the other responded erroneously because the form input was lost due to CONFLICT. I heard that Zope is multi-threaded. Why can't it start two instances of the same DTML method? How can I solve this conflict problem?

RE: ZCatalog: searching by date
by Sachin Shah 24 Nov '99

At 10:23 AM 11/23/99 -0500, Michel Pelletier wrote: >Your search form does not have have a bobobase_modification_time_usage >hidden field. This tells ZCatalog you want to do a range search. OK. Yes, it was in the original post, but it got accidently deleted in the last post. Unfortunately that still didn't solve our problem. We are still getting No data found. I have done a little more debugging and I think I am missing a step here: if I fill in the raw field and set date to EVER, than it returns no results. But if I edit the URL and remove the strings after bobobase_modification_time_usage= , and bobobase_modification_time= then the search returns whatever matches the raw correctly. After reading through the Advanced ZCatalog Searching, I am now wondering if the problem is casting, although after reading the document I am still not clear on the syntax of casting in Zope. More information: Our ZCatalog is setup exactly like the first ("raw") example in the Z Catalog Tutorial. And the latest iteration of "search_form" is below. any help in this area would be appreciated... thanks, sachin shah <form action="report" method="get"> <h2></h2> Enter query parameters:<br><table> <tr><th>Search for text:</th> <td><input name="raw" width=30 value=""></td></tr> <tr><th>Modified since: </th> <td><input type=hidden name="bobobase_modification_time_usage" value="range:min"> <select name="bobobase_modification_time"> <option value="">Ever</option> <option value="">Yesterday</option> <option value="">Last Week</option> <option value="">Last Month</option> <option value="">Last Year</option> </select></td></tr> <tr><td colspan=2 align=center> <input type="SUBMIT" name="SUBMIT" value="Submit Query"> </td></tr> </table> </form>
