graphics on the fly
by Ulrich Wisser 05 Nov '99

05 Nov '99

Hi, is there a Zope (or Python) Interface to GD? I need to make graphics as dynamic objects. The data will be stored in a SQL datbase and from there I will have to make a bar/pie/line chart out of it. I know how to do it in Perl (<- forgive me :). Is there an object or library to do it in Zope/Python? Simple question (header/footer)
by Emmanuel Viennet 05 Nov '99

05 Nov '99

Hi, I'm beginning with zope. I want a simple site, with all the pages in a folder sharing the same header/footer etc. The users will add simple HTML documents (pages) in the folder, and I don't want to make changes to their HTML. What is the simplest way to setup the folder to automatically add a header and footer (dtml methods) to all documents in this folder ? Thank you for your advices. Re: [Zope] The XML-dtml notation "&dtml-variable;"
by Philip Aylesworth 05 Nov '99

What is this &dtml-variable; all about? Is it something that I can use or is it only for xml stuff? I would like to put a variable in the title of a document within a Z class. Can it be done? At 10:33 am -0500 4/11/99, Christopher Petrilli wrote: > >Would something like this be more palatable? > > <dtml-var foo default="Empty"> > I think that would be great. I have several places where I have to check the existence of a variable before I use it. This would be much more eligant. Re: [Zope] Puzzled re ZCatalog and Zope.org /SiteIndex

Apparently there is more to url() than just a call to absolute_url(). Could I trouble you for the source of the creator() external method and, if it happens to be more than just "<dtml-return bobobase_modification_time>", the source to the date() external method as well? The idea of adding external methods at the top of a tree, in order to add methods to pre-existing meta_types for enhanced cataloging is a concept that never occurred to me... part of the Zen of Zope, I guess. I'd really suggest this concept be added to the Zope documentation, or perhaps as a TIP or HOW-TO. BTW, I've been collecting little tricks and tips from the mailing lists and I'm about to apply them to the FlexFAQ zproduct and create a public "How do I..." brief response guide. All items would be strictly kept to that phrasing and short. I keep notes from the questions/hurdles I encounter as I develop for Zope, and realize that others may need them as well. I was going to put it on my own web page since the FlexFAQ product is not installed on Zope.org, unless you'd like to give me a little space/access rights to a /Members/FAQ/ folder? ;-) Or you can wait until I do it on my own site and inspect it/decide then. -Jeff Rush

ZClass constructor / namespace question
by Jos Yule 05 Nov '99

05 Nov '99

Hello again! lets say that i have a new Class that i've made. This class has a 'parentFolderID' property. How do i correctly include the ID of the Folder from where the new Class is being created? I had (in the add form) <input type=hidden name=parentFolderID value="<dtml-var id>"> Which simply returns the name of the folder where the Class is. I want the folder where the 'add Class' came from... Thanks again! jos

Draft How-To: Converting from ZServer to Roxen, Roxen Rewriting
by Bill Anderson 05 Nov '99

05 Nov '99

Ok, I now have two sites entirely converted to Roxen from ZServer. This How-To shows what I had to do to get it to work properly, along with how to remove Zope.cgi traces from the URLs. I have some more to add to it, but thought I would get this out right away for people <ahem>Magnus</ahem> to look over. If all goes well, I'll index it this week end, and release a news announcement on it. Bill -- "They laughed at Columbus, they laughed at Fulton, they laughed at the Wright brothers. Random ID's using ZopeDate() problems...
by Jos Yule 05 Nov '99

05 Nov '99

Hello! Ok, so i've read the how-to on generating auto ID's - <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('ts', ZopeTime())"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('id', _.str(_.int(ts)))"> and I thought to myself - humm, wouldn't it be nice to have that string of digits actually mean something. So what i would like to do is have the string be the following 19991104164300 where is year (4 dig) month (2 dig) day (2 dig) hour (2 dig. 24 hour clock) min (2 dig) sec (2 dig) not sure if the last is possible (the seconds)... ok, just looked it up, it is. I tried to make a dtml-method (timeObject) that would return this string - <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('ts',ZopeTime())"> <dtml-var ts fmt="%Y%m%d%H%M%S"> and then in the object constructor ive got (please note - i'm kind of doing this from memory) <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('tempTime', timeObject)"> <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('id', tempTime)"> but it doesn't work... If you made it through all of that, Thanks!!! if you can help me, even *more* Thanks!!! Jos Yule

Obviously xmlrpclib needs to be able to marshal the return value back to the caller. The xmlrpc spec has no equivalent of the 'None' that results from a returnless function in python, hence the error. The return values does not have to be a string; just something that xmlrpc understands.
