I went web crawling, and found a package at IBM's alphaworks called XMLTreeDiff - it's java-based, and I've given up for now on trying to get a working Java environment on my box (the dependencies are rather scary...) just a pointer for anyone else who's interested. Comma Deliminated Format Databases and Zope

Going through the documentation for Zope, I've come across a multitude of ways to get SQL Databases into Zope. What I haven't found, is a simple way to import a comma deliminated format database into Zope. Does such a critter not exist, or did I overlook it, in going through the documentation for SQL? [ My theory is that ZCatalog ought to replace comma deliminated files, that are found so often in perl cgi scripts, and that the migration path does not go straight to a SQL database. ] Or is the preferred method to translate comma delimited format database files to something that GadFly can use? [ If that is the case, do I need to roll my own script to do that conversion automatically, or is such a script available somewhere? ] xan jonathon

It seems to me that it would be a Cool Thing to be able to take two Zope XML export files, say from different days, and feed it into something that would read the two, and produce a "change file" which specifies what has changed (think "diff" for XML). This would be useful for ZClass based packages, and making new versions of same. Tracking what's done on a site on a day-by-day basis (something that would produce a list at the end of the day showing exactly what changed, and where). Just doing a diff of the XML files is one extraordinarily yucky way to do this, but it's not exactly easy to then reapply that as a patch. Something that walked through the files would be more useful... thoughts? A little bird told me that people are already considering something for this task... any ideas? would the XML folks have already put something like this together? Anthony

LDAPAdapter product available for gamma testing

If you have a working ldapmodule and a working ldap server, you might be interested/willing to test a new zope product called LDAPAdapter available at http://www.zope.org:18200/Members/rossl/LDAPAdapter which essentially acts like Michel Pelletier's IMAPAdapter - except it authenticates from an LDAP server (doh!). More usefully, it grabs the cn's of the groups the user happens to be in making them available as the user's roles (plus, LDAP of course) - this potentially allows you to manage zope roles (and thus access to zope objects) through your ldap groups. Seemed like a good idea to me anyway. It's a fairly clumsy hack derived from IMAPAdapter and has been only lightly tested. Please report bugs or success to rossl(a)med.usyd.edu.au

Creating a Product

With each release brings new library orders and contortions that you have to go through. We do our testing on Solaris (x86 actually) because that's what our paying customer runs (the run Sparc, but...). It would be great to be able to ./configure it, but it just doesn't work in practice, so if you don't understand Oracle, you're going to have a hard time getting it compiled. Perhaps we can move some of the stuff to more compartmentalized options (more like what _tkinter uses). This is something to think about. If people can send me the options they used with getting it compiled along with; * OS and revision * Oracle revision * Incense burned while compiling I'll be happy to include some information with the distribution. I am in the middle of the Zope Content Managers Guide (page 31). I am creating a sample product as described but with my own fields and values.
