Hi, Chris You've given me a good impetus to figure this out once and for all :) I've updated the HOWTO a bit more... It's now pretty complete with regards to adding ZClass instances from DTML. Here's a new paragraph that is relevant to what you're trying to do: If you are trying to add a ZClass instance from elsewhere in the ZODB, it's just a couple of lines more that are necessary:: <dtml-with "manage_addProduct['YourProduct']"> <dtml-call "YourZClass_add(_.None, _, NoRedir=1)"> </dtml-with> How did I come up with this, you ask? I pulled out a crystal ball and attempted to channel the brains of the DCers up here. Since they were resistant to that particular crystal ball, I resorted to using the "View Source" command in the browser. Basically, when you add a ZClass instance from the management interface, it calls current_url/manage_addProduct/YourProduct/YourZClass_factory. The factory serves up the addForm method, which then posts to the add method. Through all of this, you're working a couple levels below the destination URL, and the addProduct machinery is designed to handle this so that the new object ends up in the right place. The (_.None, _) parameters are there to pass in the namespace. I believe that this is necessary since the YourZClass_add method exists in the Control Panel. You don't need this when calling most ZClasses, because they are in more "normal" parts of the ZODB and have access to the things you would want them to... Zope with Apache howto?

hi everyone, i'm finally sitting down to do the dreaded zope/apache connection. of course i am running into all the same problems that i had read about on the list at some point or another. :( has anyone done a howto yet? something to replace the apparently completely unworkable setup info that comes with the source code? i'm stuck at the place where accessing the site gives a "error parsing pcgi info file" and the pcgi santiy checker tells me "error attempting: 'from cgi_module_publisher import publish_module'". i assumed cgi_module_publisher would be a python file and i could look at it, but it's nowhere to be found... the repairs done so far involved checking if the pcgi_wrapper executable is where the first line of Zope.cgi shows it and then replacing "Zope" in lines 2 and 3 with "Main" and "Main.py" respectively. i haven't even gotten to the juicy rewrite part yet... ack frustrated jens -- Jens Vagelpohl **Better living through electronics**

problems with variable substitution

Hi Zopists, I have problems getting this going... I have two DTML Documents, the first one containing a list of objects in an other folder ( lets call it /foo/) of my Zope tree, and a second document that is to clone the previously selected object into the current folder (/bar/). Zope objects are stored in the Zope object database. As a result, an approach where users have their resources in the server's hard disk (e.g., ~user/zope) won't work (without some calisthenics)... Zope has the notion of folders which are close analogs of directories. It's likely that your users might never know their stuff isn't on the filesystem but rather in the ZODB (until, that is, you Undo their delete! :^) --Rob

I always thought the Z was some sort of transliteration of a heavy french accent on 'the'. I'm going to setup Zope 2 on a machine with about 200 users (now using Apache). I don't know how many are going to use Zope. I'd like to use Zope trought Apache. Each user should have his ressources un his home dir (e.g. /~user/zope/). Now my Question. Zope and security

Hi I'd like to talk about security and Zope. How secure is Zope ? If you have two interface on one server can you configure Zope to display manage screens and public Web pages on two different nic interface. Any known security bugs or exploits ?
