Make pcgi-wrapper Required

I just installed the beta 4 binary for linux. Although there was a pcgi-wrapper in the pcgi directory, the connection through apache and Zope.cgi failed. Once I did a configure, make, and make install (which fails) in the pcgi directory, everything was ok. I had a similar problem with beta 3, except the pcgi-wrapper wasn't in the the pcgi directory, so it was a little more obvious that I had to make it. 8=) Al

Docs relating to apps server [Q]

Hi! I will have to give an internal presentation about application servers. I am a software developer and I have to explain what is actually an application server to a web-development group (mainly graphic desginers, html markets and GUI designers). I have to make clear why an app server is best than continue to develop traditional CGI-ish web sites. I can think a lot of reasons (code reusability, delegation, etc) but I would like to have some docs to backup my statements. Can anyone point me to some docs? Some publications? Cannot use rename and other buttons on root folder

When I check one of the items in the root folder and click any of the rename, copy etc buttons at the bottom, it shows me a view of the root folder in the frame. In any other folders other than the root folder, the buttons work fine. What's going on? Thanks, Jim

Abstract for zope seminar at Internal web conference

Lucent being the megolith company that it is, has its own internal conference for web stuff. I'm submitting an anbstract for a seminar that I hope is accepted. It is on the work I have done using zope over the last few months. I thought I might send it for you all to get your feedback. Any help you may have would be appreciated. I have to submitt the abstract in about 12 hours or so. "Using the Open Source Z Object Publishing Environment to build a maintainable, data driven customer web site" These days when building a web site there are many tools at your disposal. Recent years have seen the growth of a vast array of solutions for providing services such as database integration, dynamic content, collaborative editing and user tracking. Solutions range from traditional CGI, server-side scripting to large-scale Web Application Servers such as Netscape Application Server. Our group produces a software product called "ProVision". We needed an Intranet web site through which we could sell, distribute, and support this product to the Lucent provisioning community (http://provision.auslabs.lucent.com) We choose the Z Object Publishing Environment (also know as ZOPE, see http://www.zope.org) with which to build the ProVision web site. We found the main advantages of ZOPE are: * Its own OODBMS gives the entire web site transactions, versioning and an integrated security model. * A unique method for reference resolution called "Acquisition" means that scripts and documents can be separated in a flexible and maintainable fashion. * SQL database integration provides connection management, seamless transaction integration and an easy scripting syntax. * That it is built on top of the OO language Python making code both powerful and cross-platform. * An extensible architecture called "Products" that makes it easy to install new functionality and package code for reuse. Products exist for IMAP, LDAP, Web Discussion board, E-Commerse, news and calender rendering amoung others. * The entire site is maintained and edited entirely over the web. * The fact that ZOPE is open source meant that not only did it lower the costs associated with our site, but also it ensured a high level of support from a large worldwide development community. With these tools at our disposal it was possible to create a sophisticated but maintainable web site in about 300 developer hours. The web site now has over 1000 registered users spread over 20 countries. In this seminar we will talk about features of the ProVision site such as a site map that is automatically updated, a registration system with email confirmation and post intergration, and pages with dynamic content based on a user's profile. We will discuss how they were implemented using ZOPE and how ZOPE can bring to your web sites.

Server Lockups: Clue?

I was wondering about the lockups at first, since I didn't experience it. When I did, I noticed something interesting. The lockups only affected the management interface. When I accessed zope as an anonymous user (via another browser, of course), not only was the response instant, but the management interface "unfroze" as well. Could this be a threading issue? This is Z-2.0b2 cooked on Solaris 2.6, Python 1.5.2, w/ egcs-1.1.2-release. Hope this helps.

Zope in single-threaded mode using pcgi_publisher?

Static zope?

Hello everyone, I would like to know if someone has a static linked version of zope, or if it would be possible that some one would give me some light on how to do it my self, my case is difficult I want to install zope on my ISP server on my account but they have zero support for threads and it is running slackware wich is incompatible without and upgrade with zope, (the upgrade will not happend any time soon!) so I was told I cud run a static linked version of zope instead of the dynamic version of it available at this time, if some one has done this would you contact me please? or if some one would give me the steps necesary to compile zope statically I would appreciate it a lot, as I been working a lot on a new zope driven site and now I can't publish it and it is just frustrating, (I think there should be a static distribution of zope included on the Zope download area as I am not the only one having problems compiling or running zope, maybe a good idea?) thanks a lot in advanced!
