Zope2b1 and Zclass permission ... something missing

Ok, have a nice little zope2 server that was wroking fine ... but now, I have upgraded it to beta1, and now, I have an authentication issue. I have ZClass "Dancer". This Dancer object has the property "title", simple enough. Unfirtunaely, now when I click on the link to a particular dancer (has an index_html method that displays various properties), it tells me I am not authorized to access "title". Thinking this may be related to my other issue, I went looking for the "Access Content Information". Sure enough, it was disabled, but when I went to add it, it is missing from the selectbox! It also claims (the product itsself) that it inherits this. I have this set for anonymous. Still, no accessing it. oh ... more yet! Even when logged in as the superuser, I get this! ... <meek> help? </meek> ... Bill

I'm going to put this on the list to see if anybody else has any ideas (I note that I just sent it back to Brian, not the list). The short summary is I have a ZClass (MSFile) that is based on the File class provided with Zope. I add some properties to it. If I add an instance of this type, it acts just like a File type, not showing any of the properties that I have defined... Is this a bug, or am I not doing something right? I am using some code to import the file that I borrowed from a posting by Ross Reedstrom (Thanks!!) which I'm including below to see if that helps: Bruce ---------------- <dtml-comment> Taken from e-mail from: Ross J. I haven't really worked with Zope2 very much, but in 1.10.x, my solution to this problem was always to do it this way:          <h1 align="center" style="color:red;">Boo!</h1>   This way, Zope gets the headers first and doesn't complain, the logic still runs the same, and everything comes out hunky-dory. Of course this wouldn't help if DoSomething actually needed to set an environment variable that goes in the header.... (a) Use DTML Methods if you're planning on returning a value, that way the concept of methods stays solid, and (b) In the Zope 2 Beta there is the new "return" tag. It was submitted by someone on this list. I've started using it a little bit myself, but I haven't used it to return non-dtml-documents. This is probably what you're looking for. I've found the return tag very nice for when I had situations (similar to what you described) of having heaps of logic before any content, usually on something that happens after submitting a form. If you had a DTML Document/Method like the following:          <h1 align="center" style="color:red;">Boo!</h1>  It may very likely (when rendered) leave one or more blank lines at the top, which Zope will try (unsuccesfully) to parse for HTTP Headers. Now, instead of #var index_html, I can have #return index_html and (thus far) it seems to do the right thing.

RealServer Question.

Hi, this is a probably a newbie question, but I was wondering if someone could help me out just the same. I would like to use RealServer to serve Real content, but use Zope to handle all of the authentication and authorization. Does anyone know a way to do this? That is, I would like to put a RealMedia object in a Zope folder, but have a different server actually handle the serving. I was thinking that a rewrite rule might be appropiate, but that seems to leave the RealMedia content unprotected. DA Status

Gang, I've started to put up a list of status for all the DA's on the web site: http://www.zope.org/Download/DAStatus Please look over this and let me know if you have anything to change. I will be adding information about contributed DAs as it is collected/contributed. One thing I would like to make clear about all DC-supported DAs... they will all be at least Level 2 by the official release of Zope 2.0. In addition, if you wish to beat a DA into L2 immediately, all you need to do is: * Mix in the Shared.DC.ZRDB.THUNK.THUNKED_TM instead of normal one * Call self._register before you do a query * And implement self._begin, self._finish, self._abort This gets you L2 + integration with transaction support. This list will expand and grow over the next couple of days. Chris

nested logic in DTML

I'm just getting to the point where I want to use DTML for fairly deeply-nested logical structures. Basically I have something like this: ---                --- I'd like to add another fairly long conditional right before the update line, but it makes things quite unwieldy. What I'd really like would be a DTML Document like object that can return a value. I could stick the long conditional in that object. Then I could reference the object in several different places and just check the return value. I realize that this is stretching DTML beyond it's presentation-only design, but I do think that going all of the way to an external python method for this seems a bit much. Any suggestions? thanks -- -chad

Beta one increases stability over the alpha releases and also adds a few missing pieces like the ability to tie permissions to factories. Also you can now export Zope objects to XML. Speaking of XML, as of beta one all basic Zope objects support a subset of the DOM Element interface, and the unsupported XML Document product is out and in CVS. * Zope 2.0 beta one was released this week. Now you can download a binary release of Zope 2. http://www.zope.org/Download/Releases/Zope-2.0.0b1 * The Zope site received a look and feel makeover. Most people seem to like the new design. If you use relational databases with Zope, please read: In the context of Database Adapters, Zope 2 introduces two new things: (a) concurrency (b) a different (better, faster, cheaper.. um, well still free) approach to transactions EACH Database Adapter has to be modified so that it addresses (a) above. This will be done according to the Levels detailed in an earlier post. To briefly recap: o Level 1 DA -- you must run Zope2 in single-threaded mode o Level 2 DA -- "thunked.." transactions are serialized inside the DA code o Level 3 DA -- fully threaded A different and largely unrelated issue is how the DA interacts with Zope's transaction machinery (i.e., (b) above). With the exception of a Sybase DA we are working internally for a consulting customer we have not made any progress (internally) on this. This will cause the behavior Martijn describes below. A DA can be Level 3, high-speed, long-range, low-drag and still not be integrated with the new transaction machinery. Conversely, a DA can be integrated into the new transaction machinery and require Zope be run in single threaded mode.
