I can't retrieve localhost:8080, because ZServer won't start. (I get a Naviation Error in IE). I tried removing and re-installing TCP/IP, as you suggested (rebooting after each step), to no avail. I also tried putting my hostname in the code ip = socket.gethostbyname ('jimslackxl') # was: socket.gethostname()) This didn't help either. ping localhost works fine. Also, I use Apache regularly on this machine for localhost access. Any other ideas? Premature end of script headers error (Apache/Zope.cgi v.2b1)

I've been using Apache mod_rewrite with Zope 1.x for a while now and it works great. Tonight I installed v2b1 and set up a new server. I can access it fine using Zserver, but I get the following error in Apache's log (Zope.cgi never creates the log file I expect.) [Zserver and Apache are not running at the same time...] httpd: [Sun Jul 25 21:18:24 1999] [error] [client 10.1.1.1] Premature end of script headers: /websites/Zope2/Zope.cgi Zope.cgi looks similar to the installs I have of Zope 1.x. Remember that server name != host name. Sybase distinguishes between the identifier of the database server and the machine running the server. Afaik, there's no way to tell ctsybase the host name, but I could be wrong there. Also note that the server name is case sensitive, so "Turtle" != "turtle". You might try isql: isql -U qawila1 -P figtree -S turtle ...should verify whether the parameters are correct as typed. If you find that you need to type: isql -U qawila1 -P figtree -S mysybase -H turtle ...which means "turtle" is the host name, and "mysybase" is the server name, then the host name is definitely part of the equation. -- Alexander Staubo http://www.mop.no/~alex/ "QED?" said Russell. Its that damm timezone problem in zope. If the python string returned as your timezone is not known to zope it barfs. This problem has been going on for months and I feel because it is something that only effects non-american zope users there has not been enough effort into fixing it. In fact I have fixed this bug and submitted it and am disappointed that it has not made into the source yet as was promised. This is a show stopping bug. In certain countries any application that uses dates from sql where a timezone is not supplied is going to crash!!! Note that ZSybaseDA has a bug that keeps it from publishing errors correctly. Check the line number given in the traceback. Verify that you login ID has access to the database and table. "Access contents information" and SQL Methods; bug?

I have an interesting problem with a part of a site that needs to be limited to privileged editors. Let's call this role "Editor". The problem is, unless I give the "Access contents information" permission to the "Anonymous" role, SQL Method calls are not permitted, even if I give _all_ permissions to the "Editor" role. It's that curious?  equals to my editor user (defined in folder somewhere above the restricted folder), and  gives me ['Editor']. Btw, I've disabled acquisiton of permissions on the restricted folder. My observation is that it seems as though the superuser only has the "Manager" role. This borders on an insult, but are you sure you guys didn't somehow implement such a rule without telling each other? :-) If I rescind all permissions from the Manager role, the top-level folder only shows the "Properties" and "Find" tabs. I did post it to the Collector. If you cannot reproduce this behaviour, I can supply my Data.fs file for inspection. It turns out -- and until I hear anything else, I chalk this up as a bug -- that if you rescind all permissions from the "Manager" role, Zope will behave like described below. Try it -- it's weird. The behaviour is slightly different under beta 1, but still not correct.
