Technical Question - Where the Session Data Stored ?

Hi ! My problem is that: I need to persistent store many form datas, because I need to create multiple edit forms. They are multiple forms, because the first is open the next, but in same browser window, and when the second form opened, the first form is not saved to database, only stored in persistent store. And when the second form is closed by submit, the first form is showed, and the first form's data is get from persistent store, not from database. So it is usable for multiple edits. I don't want use popup windows for this operation, popups are blocked in many machine. I write this mechanism yesterday. The first form is load the datas from outer database. The first form's one button is store the first form's request to the session with a special ID. The second form is opened, and the special ID is stored. When the second form is submitted (ok, or cancel), the second form is store the result in session[special ID]['result'], and redirected to first form with the special ID. First form is see the special ID, and it is determine, that datas are not get from database, they are get from session[special ID], and session[special ID]['result']. When the first form is saved (apply or ok), this state is saving to the database, and next the datas are loaded from the database. So: Because I save the states to session, all of them are stored with unique (new) key. While session is living, this parameters are not released, because I don't know, when they are used (example: open a page in multiple browser windows, and when the first is saved, the second is hold same special ID). The technical question: where the session data stored ? Because it is memory, it is cause memory leak. When in file, it is not problem. So the question is: session is good for persistent data storing with multiple forms, or I need to create an outer database table for these operations ? What's the problem exactly? You don't get anything back? What happens if you put in a <pre tal:content="string:#${userName}#">user</pre> just after the div with the define? Does it contain what you expect? Look in particular for case sensitivity, unexpected whitespace padding (often happens if that username is coming out of a database field of type CHAR)? Look for funny spaces/characters before and after those hash signs. Cheers, Dan

Having problems with python script

I have posted this question a few times and I am still struggling on finding the correct way to pass a parameter. This is what I am doing. I am getting results from a zsql method (results here/view_users) and I need to pass a value from that batch (result/username) to a python script This is what it looks like: <div tal:define="results here/view_users; batch python:here.getBatch(results)"> . . . <div tal:repeat="result batch" <div tal:define="userName result/username"> <div tal:replace="python:here.ldapInfo(userName)"/> -----> Does not work!!! If I manually insert a value it works perfectly: <div tal:define="userName python:'lmccord'"> <div tal:replace="python:here.ldapInfo(userName)"/> or <div tal:replace="python:here.ldapInfo('lmccord')"/> If I display the value of userName I get this: <div tal:content="userName"/> ---> lmccord So, what is the problem with passing values derived from a zsql method/database Thanks. :(

Fundamentals of Zope Security

Hello all, Simple problem: a password change form. The form is a page template. It submits to another page template. This page template calls a python script that changes your password in LDAP (via external methods). I'm leaving off quite a bit, here, of course. How can I secure the python scripts so that clever users cannot arbitrarily execute them? I realize that its a big question, but I'm thinking I need to fundamentally shift some of my own paradigms, and I'd appreciate all input on the subject. Thanks, --- Edward J. ZServer/ZPublisher proxying, or move to "full zope"; need consultant

Hi all, I'm trying to get ZServer to serve a ZPublisher webapp. Previosly we used PCGI directly with apache (evolved from bobo days). Would like to move pieces into "full zope" land over time but have immediate need to get off the PCGI/apache solution as it has been hard to get/keep running on different Linux platforms. I have gotten it mostly running under ZServer fairly easily but resulted in a problem (#2) mentioned below. 1. Our website has html and img content (as well as dtml), which I understand ZServer won't serve. This seems to push me into either (a) apache proxying so that apache can serve html/imgs (results in problem #2 below), or (b) running full Zope via another URL path (having two zhttp_handler's in z2.py), and serving html/imgs from there (requiring me to change all refs to 'em). Suggestions? 2. Can SiteAccess fix the apache proxy BaseLocation URL problem for a ZPublisher/ZServer web app? I read the page (http://zope.org/Members/anser/apache_zserver) about using Evan Simpson's SiteAccess to fix the BaseLocation problem but it requires "full zope" and I'm running a ZPublisher webapp through ZServer. Any way to use this to hardwire a fix in ZServer? 3. Is there any way to pull a ZPublisher app into "full Zope" wholecloth as one big external method? I remember Amos mentioning this as possibility a while back. If not, would appreciate any pointers to docs or descriptions of how much work it is to bring it in a piece at a time. I have tried this route a little bit, but got pretty swamped in "import hell." 4. I would like to find a zope consultant to help us with problems like this on an hourly pay basis for a community website we run. Person should have several years zope-related programming experience, including experience with ZServer/ZPublisher. Zope leaking memory?

Pound-current (V 1.7+) Zope 2.6.4 Python 2.3.4 RH 7.3 Dual Athalon processors Occasionally, I see Zope gathering very large amounts of real memory. Normally buffering and the like seems to stabalize at around 500MB on a 4GB memory dual processor machine, but occasionally grows to 2.5GB or more. At the same time, CPU usage tends to fully occupy one of the processors for the threads holding all the memory. Clearly there is a problem. Any hints as to where to track down the problem?

ZEO / zdaemon.Daemon broken on Zope-2.7.1-0

I am trying to use ZEO on Zope-2.7.1-0. I added /usr/local/Zope/lib/python to my PYTHONPATH and then tried to start ZEO with peds-pc311:/usr/local/Zope> sudo python lib/python/ZEO/start.py -p 7700 Traceback (most recent call last): File "lib/python/ZEO/start.py", line 362, in ? main(sys.argv) File "lib/python/ZEO/start.py", line 223, in main import zdaemon.Daemon ImportError: No module named Daemon peds-pc311:/usr/local/Zope> Looking in the zdaemon dir, indeed there is no Daemon class. There is a zdaemon.zdrun.Daemonizer.run method, but this has a different signature than zdaemon.Daemon.run(sys.argv, env.zeo_pid) which is what the ZEO start script is doing. Suggestions? Yes I know it has been unmaintained for a while (2002), but 0.6.1 seems to work fine with Zope 2.6. If anyone has any better suggestions, please feel free to share them. If not, I'll be looking into this more closely over the next few weeks and months. I've been playing around with e-mail access and this product for myself and for a client, not least because it provides a way of getting around the ludicrous restrictions UK (although not restricted to) mobile providers insist on putting on access to e-mail from your mobile phone. <potentially_useful_background_info> If anyone is interested, with providers such as O2 you cannot use the built in phone client that comes with many phones on the various Pay as You Go Tariffs. On those providers that do, you are restricted to signing up for an e-mail address with *them*, and even on the (ludicrously) expensive business options you are forced to send all mail through *their* smtp servers. If you are in a corporate environment and you manage your own e-mail, this isn't really an option. The providers try and insult you with all sorts of reasons as to why this is the case, but I think we can all guess. </potentially_useful_background_info> That aside, I've noticed an odd problem with login access to some DTML WML based documents for viewing on a mobile. I've been experimenting with a Sony Ericsson T630, and when I go to the main_wml page for viewing and put in the appropriate username and password it then continually asks me for them and then refuses to show it. Viewing it on a normal desktop browser such as Firefox or Konqueror is absolutely fine, and viewing on the mobile without authentication works fine, but this is of course, not an option. Has anyone noticed these quirks when working with WAP devices and WML pages (it's somewhat new territory for me), and how did you get around them? Any hints, general tips and technical pitfalls on using Zope and WAP/WML content would also be appreciated. I presume the BTrees that go missing are transience-related? Even if so I'm not sure if that indicates anything is wrong with Transience itself. Lately, Tim has made some fixes to ZODB 3.2 (aka Zope 2.7) that cause an exception to be raised if a connection is closed while there are pending modifications in that connection. Also, another bug has been fixed to make "begin()" to also do an "abort()" even if there are only modifications pending in subtransactions within a transaction ( see http://zope.org/Collectors/Zope/789 http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.web.zope.zodb/5364 ). Additionally, Zope's publisher has been changed to be more explicit about transaction management (required by the first ZODB fix, although its old behavior would have left it solved by the second ;-). Aapparently the "abort subtransactions when beginning the main transaction" bug can be a source of POSKeyErrors due to connection-cache/database desynchronization. I have no idea if this is what is biting you but it's worth a shot to find out I suppose. All of these fixes have happened recently enough that they haven't yet made it to any released Zope version and are only available in CVS (on the Zope-2_7-branch). Unrelatedly, new work has also been happening in Transience that will be merged into the 2.7 branch soon as well. This is currently in good shape on the 'chrism-pre273-branch' of Transience in CVS.
