RE: [Zope] ExtFile Question

I noticed in the documentation http://zope.org/Members/shh/ExtFile that I am supposed to set the EXTFILE_STATIC_PATH in the zope start script. Is the start script in Zope/Startup/__init__.py and under def startZope(self) would I insert: export EXTFILE_STATIC_PATH=/static Thanks, Laura -----Original Message----- From: Stefan H. ExtFile Question
by Laura McCord 12 May '04

12 May '04

I need a little help getting started. I have Apache httpd-2.0.46 installed and I started the server however it is saying "Could not determine the server's fully qualified domain name, using .......for ServerName." I am hoping this is not going to be a problem. Anyway, when I am in Zope I selected ExtFile from the drop-down menu. In the Add ExtFile form I filled out an id, and uploaded a txt file in the file field. I get an error: Error Type: Can't create directory: Error Value: /opt/zope/doucet/static/reposit/f/X How do I get a file stored on the Apache server now? And how do I view it? Thanks, Laura

I don't know how this binary rendering should be done. This is what I have tried: def loadAppletClass(self): """Returns the binary data""" productHome=Globals.package_home(globals()) appletName='myApplet.class' appletPath=os.path.join(productHome,'java/'+appletName) appletData=file(appletPath) return appletData.read() then: def appletHeader(self): """Renders the applet tag""" return \ """ <applet code="%s" width="%s" height="%s" name="myApplet"> <param name="showValue" value="no"> <param name="sampleHeight" value="10"> <param name="bgColor" value="%s"> no applet </applet> """ % (self.absolute_url()+'/loadAppletClass',self.appletWidth,self.appletHeight,self. bgColor[1:]) But I didn't succeded. The applet isn't started. When I call the method loadAppletClass alone, then I see the binary data of the applet. > > Have in mind that by doing this way you won't be able to manage the cache > settings of the binary, unless you deal with that within the method itself, > so chances are that you'll prefer to upload your java class as a visible > zope file. Yes, I've already thaugth about it, but I don't like this way because when the user uninstalls the product, the java applet will remain somewhere on the zope DB. Another way is to store the java applet on the "Control_Panel/MyProduct" folder on the initialization time, which I've done, but then I have to use this path on the "applet" tag and I don't like it because it exposes the "Control_Panel" folder (ie: malicious bots will see it). Thanks, Josef

zope ftp questions... again
by Kevin Tie 12 May '04

12 May '04

I would really like a build of zope that has working ftp downloads (no straight 100% cpu utilization, no throttling to 10Kb/s) but I really don't know what sort of condition the 2.7branch wip is in. Can anyone vouch for the stability of what's there right now? Is there a more recent windows build other than what's available on the zope.org website or do I need to build from cvs?

RE: [Zope] index_html of zclass

Please read as much documentation (the ZopeBook) as possible . You may define a default 'index_html' by creating a method with that id at the 'methods' tab of your ZClass. User passwords
by Joe Goldthwaite 12 May '04

12 May '04

I asked this one before but got no response. That's surprising because it seems like it should be a simple thing. I've set up a bunch of users in the acl_users folder. I assigned their passwords manually. I'd like to give them a web page where they can change their passwords themselves. Surely there must be a simple way to do it without going to a separate authentication module like CookieCrumbler or some such. Does anyone know of a simple way to change user passwords? RESPONSE.write(text) and RESPONSE.flush()
by Joe Goldthwaite 12 May '04

12 May '04

Hello All, I've been chugging along trying to get my Zope application working. Things are going pretty well. My clients are really happy with the results which is good because they haven't canceled the project. This was my only hope for getting Python (or any other non-Microsoft) programming in the door. So far, so good. I've got an external method that rebuilds a reporting database. I wanted to send a text string each time a segment of the job finishes. Here's what I tried; jobs = [["job desc 1","some sql statement"],["job desc 2","another sql statement"]] def Build(RESPONSE, DBConnection): for job in jobs: RESPONSE.write(job[0] + "\n") RESPONSE.flush() DBConnection.cursor.execute(job[0]) RESPONSE.write("Done! User your back button to return to the previous page.\n") This works but not as well as I hoped. There are so many jobs that the final result is off the bottom of the page so if the user doesn't scroll down, he can't see that its done. I also wanted to display the data on a formatted HTML page but it looks like the write function encodes any html so that you can see it. This effectively keeps me from producing any kind of formatted output. Is there any way to get the write function to return my text to the browser unchanged? I also had the great idea of redirecting to a "finished" page with the command; RESPONSE.redirect("finished") Where "finished" is just a simple html page that displays "done" with a link to return to the home page. The only problem is that it doesn't work and I don't know why. I also tried to return a formatted html page from my external method after it calls the Build function but it's ignored. For some reason, if I call RESPONSE.write(), I can't return any other html to Zope. That's confusing so let me illustrate with two functions; This external method returns a web page that says "This is my web page" def test1(REQUEST): return "<html><head><title>Test 1</title>This is my web page</html>" This external method only "This is a test" def test2(REQUEST): REQUEST.RESPONSE.write("This is a test\n") return "<html><head><title>Test 2</title>This is my web page</html>" Does anyone understand what's happing and can explain it to me?

Create a public method inside your product class that renders just the binary, i.e 'jclass_binary'. Then you use, according yo your appletHeader method: self.absolute_url() + '/jclass_binary' ... as the url that you need in the 'code' attribute of the applet tag. Have in mind that by doing this way you won't be able to manage the cache settings of the binary, unless you deal with that within the method itself, so chances are that you'll prefer to upload your java class as a visible zope file. There might be other ways to do the same thing. Ausum >From: Josef Meile <jmeile(a)hotmail.com> >To: zope(a)zope.org >Subject: [Zope] Embedding java applet into python Product >Date: Tue, 11 May 2004 20:26:59 +0200 > >Hi, > >the idea of this is to have the instances of a python product to use a java >applet, which comes with the product itself. > >This is what I've done, but I haven't had any success: > >On MyInstanceHome/Products/MyProduct/MyProduct.py: > >from OFS.Image import File >import os,Globals > >def loadAppletClass(): > #Gets the physic path where the applet is: > #MyInstanceHome/Products/MyProduct/java/myApplet.class > productHome=Globals.package_home(globals()) > appletName='myApplet.class' > appletPath=os.path.join(productHome,'java/'+appletName) > > #Then loads the data > appletData=file(appletPath) > return File(appletName,'',appletData) > #return appletData -> I tried this as well > >#Creates a global variable to store the >#file reference >APPLET_CLASS=loadAppletClass() > >#Here comes the usual code for manage_add > ># Then the class definition >class MyProduct(SimpleItem): > """ MyProduct class definition""" > > #__init__ and other class methods come here > > #Inside this method, I use some class variables that > #I have already initialize on the __init__ method > def appletHeader(self): > """Renders the applet tag""" > return \ > """ > <applet code="%s" width="%s" height="%s" name="myApplet"> > <param name="showValue" value="no"> > <param name="sampleHeight" value="10"> > <param name="bgColor" value="%s"> > no applet > </applet> > """ % (APPLET_CLASS,self.appletWidth,self.appletHeight,self.bgColor) > >then I called it from a Page template like this: > ><applet tal:replace='structure python:here.appletHeader()'> > Some Applet ></applet> > >but I get: > ><applet code="---> The whole binary data comes here <---" > width="325" height="100" name="myApplet"> > <param name="showValue" value="no"> > <param name="sampleHeight" value="10"> > <param name="bgColor" value="#eeeeee"> > no applet > </applet> > >I think this result is pretty normal because on one hand I'm returning the >object contents and not a reference.
