export problem with 2.7.0
by Dan Cherry 11 May '04

11 May '04

Hi, I installed zope 2.7.0 on a couple of Debian linux systems (Python 2.3), and neither of the systems will export more than roughly 22kb. The objects I'm trying to export contain about 15MB including subfolders/files/images/etc. first, has anyone else run into this abbreviated export situation, and second, if so, have you found a workaround? any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks, -- Dan Cherry dscherry(a)bellsouth.net

Embedding java applet into python Product
by Josef Meile 11 May '04

11 May '04

Hi, the idea of this is to have the instances of a python product to use a java applet, which comes with the product itself. This is what I've done, but I haven't had any success: On MyInstanceHome/Products/MyProduct/MyProduct.py: from OFS.Image import File import os,Globals def loadAppletClass(): #Gets the physic path where the applet is: #MyInstanceHome/Products/MyProduct/java/myApplet.class productHome=Globals.package_home(globals()) appletName='myApplet.class' appletPath=os.path.join(productHome,'java/'+appletName) #Then loads the data appletData=file(appletPath) return File(appletName,'',appletData) #return appletData -> I tried this as well #Creates a global variable to store the #file reference APPLET_CLASS=loadAppletClass() #Here comes the usual code for manage_add # Then the class definition class MyProduct(SimpleItem): """ MyProduct class definition""" #__init__ and other class methods come here #Inside this method, I use some class variables that #I have already initialize on the __init__ method def appletHeader(self): """Renders the applet tag""" return \ """ <applet code="%s" width="%s" height="%s" name="myApplet"> <param name="showValue" value="no"> <param name="sampleHeight" value="10"> <param name="bgColor" value="%s"> no applet </applet> """ % (APPLET_CLASS,self.appletWidth,self.appletHeight,self.bgColor) then I called it from a Page template like this: <applet tal:replace='structure python:here.appletHeader()'> Some Applet </applet> but I get: <applet code="---> The whole binary data comes here <---" width="325" height="100" name="myApplet"> <param name="showValue" value="no"> <param name="sampleHeight" value="10"> <param name="bgColor" value="#eeeeee"> no applet </applet> I think this result is pretty normal because on one hand I'm returning the object contents and not a reference. On the other hand, the binary data is being treated as ASCII. How do I return a reference instead of returning the File object itself? Thanks in advanced, Josef

Have the configuration directives changed for using Zope + ssl with Apache 2? I have followed the directions provided in the provided in the WEBSERVERS.txt documentation, but they appear to be the same as for Apache1.3.

Re: [ANN] Epoz 0.8.1 released

Sweet! A couple of suggestions if I may: 1) Can we get the 'Remove Format' to work with everything? If you go to your demo site for example, and try removing the first line of text that is encased in a <span> and <H1> tags, or the unordered bulleted list further on down... well nothing happens. 2) There's a little check-box at the bottom of the Epoz text editing window. It has no description, yet is a pretty important tool. I use it quite often in instances where the 'Remove Format' doesn't work, or if I need to modify a tag. Certainly not all users will need it, but a description would certainly be helpful. For our internal site I've just added the following beside it: HTML View Perhaps even making it a toggle type button instead? I dunno, but great work... its all very much appreciated here!!! -Drak.

This question probably doesn't belong on this list, but I'll ask anyway. I have a script(python) object in zope which is being passed a variable containing the following: first last <flast(a)domain.com> How can I extract all of the text up to but not including the < and assign to a new variable? Thanks, Israel

Incorrect login message - more information
by Marnie King 11 May '04

11 May '04

Our scenario is this..... We are using Zope with Apache and have created a folder under the Root Folder. In this folder I removed the original acl_users and added an exUserFolder and enabled secure cookie-based authentication. When I attempt to access this folder through a browser window, it comes up with the session based login box which is all ok. The problem I'm having is this.... If I put in a correct username but incorrect password, it comes up with a the login box again with the heading "Failed Login".... which is fine. But when I put in an incorrect username, it then comes up with a second login screen (Windows)and is asking for authentication again. Is there a way around this so that it also brings the original login box up again with the heading "Failed Login" ?? More information... We have this: <VirtualHost _default_:80> ServerName diff RewriteEngine On <Location ~ "/manage"> Redirect permanent /manage https://diff/manage SetHandler server-status Order Deny,Allow Allow from all #Deny from all </Location> RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://localhost:9080/VirtualHostBase/http/diff:80/Examples/GuestBook/Virtu… ot/$1 [L,P] </VirtualHost> Steps we have taken to try to rectify problem... Taken from Unenlightened Zopistas Guide to exUserFolder. We have attempted both steps 1.3 and 1.4 with no success. 1. 1.2 What happened You tried to access an area you don't have access to. Zope found the closest user folder to the object you were trying to access. The user folder decided you were not authorised and tried to display the login form. You don't have access to view the login form, so Zope finds the nearest user folder to the login form, which is the user folder above the protected directory. It pops up the authentication dialog. If you put in a valid username and password for this top level, then lower level then displays the login form. 1. 1.3 Solution 1 (preferred). Place the user folder one level above the folder you want to protect, that is in the unprotected area. Everything should work fine. 1. 1.4. Solution 2 (not so preferred). Set the View permission on the docLogin form inside the acl_users folder. You can get there by Choosing Contents on docLogin and scrolling down to the bottom. Any help in this matter is appreciated Thanks. ----------------------------------------------- ABS Web Site: www.abs.gov.au
