MappingStorage for ZEO Sessions?
by george donnelly 06 May '04

hi I have a 4 client ZEO cluster that I am setting up a central sessions storage for. I'm wondering if someone can give me a little feedback on what I have done, eg i have a few questions: 1. am i doing this right? 2. where does the mapping storage store itself on the filesystem? as part of the Data.fs of the root-mounted filestorage? 3. If i add a transient object container a level below the zope root, will its data also get stored in the Mapping Storage? I am using MappingStorage and it is setup in zeo.conf like this: <mappingstorage sess> name mapping storage for sessions </mappingstorage> in zope.conf I have the temporary storage setup like this: <zodb_db temporary> <zeoclient> server 192.168.1.4:8424 storage sess name temporary mapping storage for sessioning </zeoclient> mount-point /temp_folder container-class Products.TemporaryFolder.TemporaryContainer </zodb_db> in zeo.log I get this: 2004-05-04T14:21:51 INFO(0) RUNSVR opening storage 'sess' using MappingStorage ------ 2004-05-04T14:21:51 INFO(0) ZSS:7175 StorageServer created RW with storages: 1:RW:/path/to/zeohome/var/Data.fs, sess:RW:mapping storage for sessions and later this: 2004-05-04T14:46:13 INFO(0) zrpc-conn:192.168.1.4:60202 zeoLoad() raised exception: '\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00' Traceback (most recent call last): File "/usr/local/zope/270/lib/python/ZEO/zrpc/connection.py", line 264, in handle_request ret = meth(*args) File "/usr/local/zope/270/lib/python/ZEO/StorageServer.py", line 248, in zeoLoad p, s = self.storage.load(oid, '') File "/usr/local/zope/270/lib/python/ZODB/MappingStorage.py", line 56, in load p = self._index[oid] KeyError: '\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00\x00' the client connects fine, under Control Panel > Databases > temporary I see: Database Location temporary mapping storage for sessioning (connected) Database Size 239.0K also there are many writes and few loads. tia <--> george donnelly ~ http://www.zettai.net/ ~ "Quality Zope Hosting" Shared and Dedicated Zope Hosting ~ Zope Servers ~ Zope Websites Yahoo, AIM: zettainet ~ ICQ: 51907738 ~ Sales (USA): 1-866-967-3669

seeking example database application
by William Herring 05 May '04

I've put this to the general list and the database list........ I would like to set up a zope/database interface (using Postgres 7.4) with the following properties: - multiple users each with their own id and password - they will enter and access their own data - any specific user will not be able to see another user's data - the user will not manage his/her web-page I have Zope 2.6 and Postgres 7.4 set up and working with each other. Also, have a few ideas on how to do this, but thought it would be easiest if there were some similar examples out there to look at. Any suggestions from anyone, on anything that might be similar to the above task??

Inexplicably crashing Zope 2.7
by Doug Winter 05 May '04

I have two zope servers in a cluster running Zope 2.7.0. We moved to 2.7.0 a few weeks ago, and have had this problem ever since. At least once a day, and sometimes much more frequently, they fall over, sometimes one, sometimes both. I assume it is related to load, because there are no other patterns I can see. When the Zope servers are running I see something like the following from ps: UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD zope 28306 1 0 Apr21 ? 00:00:08 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/zdaemon/zdrun.py -S /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/ZEO/zeoctl.xml -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zeo.conf /usr/ zope 28307 28306 1 Apr21 ? 05:30:30 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/ZEO/runzeo.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zeo.conf zope 835 28307 0 Apr22 ? 00:00:06 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/ZEO/runzeo.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zeo.conf zope 28621 1 0 10:21 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/zdaemon/zdrun.py -S /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/Zope/Startup/zopeschema.xml -b 30 -d -f -s /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope. zope 28622 28621 13 10:21 ? 00:00:03 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/Zope/Startup/run.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zope.conf zope 28631 28622 0 10:21 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/Zope/Startup/run.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zope.conf zope 28635 28631 4 10:22 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/Zope/Startup/run.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zope.conf zope 28636 28631 12 10:22 ? 00:00:02 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/Zope/Startup/run.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zope.conf zope 28637 28631 15 10:22 ? 00:00:02 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/Zope/Startup/run.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zope.conf zope 28638 28631 10 10:22 ? 00:00:01 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/Zope/Startup/run.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zope.conf After it has fallen over, I see: UID PID PPID C STIME TTY TIME CMD zope 28306 1 0 Apr21 ? 00:00:09 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/zdaemon/zdrun.py -S /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/ZEO/zeoctl.xml -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zeo.conf /usr/ zope 28307 28306 1 Apr21 ? 05:33:47 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/ZEO/runzeo.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zeo.conf zope 835 28307 0 Apr22 ? 00:00:06 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/ZEO/runzeo.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zeo.conf zope 28621 1 0 10:21 ? 00:00:00 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/zdaemon/zdrun.py -S /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/Zope/Startup/zopeschema.xml -b 30 -d -f -s /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope. zope 28636 1 6 10:22 ? 00:05:26 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/Zope/Startup/run.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zope.conf zope 28637 1 5 10:22 ? 00:05:12 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/Zope/Startup/run.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zope.conf zope 28638 1 5 10:22 ? 00:04:54 /usr/bin/python2.3 /usr/local/zope2/lib/python/Zope/Startup/run.py -C /usr/local/be/zopeinstance7.icpeurope.net/config/zope.conf It looks like, in this case, PID 28631 has died, leaving orphan zope processes. However, zdrun hasn't noticed this and restarted, presumably because these orphans have been left. Has anyone got any ideas what I can try to debug/fix this problem? WAP Access of Zope Site
by Roger Fisher 05 May '04

05 May '04

I am having trouble correctly accessing my site from a cellular telephone. I use Virtual Host Monster to redirect wap.mydomain.com to a subfolder in my Zope space. Zope renders the correct method when this is accessed from an Internet Explorer browser. However, myroot/index_html is rendered instead when accessed from the phone. To investigate, I had each method return REQUEST. I noticed that the PATH_INFO and PATH_TRANSLATED values were different: >From IE Browser: /VirtualHostBase/http/root.mydomain.com:80/ >From Phone: /VirtualHostBase/http/root.mydomain.com:80:80/ It seems likely that the port number being doubly inserted is causing the problem, and likely that it is in front of my Zope stuff. Is this an Apache issue, needing another rewrite rule? I have only a passing familiarity with Apache. I think the relevant section of my apache.conf file is: <VirtualHost an_IP_address:80> ServerName mydomain.com ServerAlias www.mydomain.com RewriteEngine On RewriteRule ^/(.*) http://an_IP_address:9001/VirtualHostBase/http/%{HTTP_HOST}:80/$1 [L,P] </VirtualHost> Thanks in advance for any help.

Re: [ZC] 1314/ 2 Reject "ZODB size explosion"
by Casey Duncan 05 May '04

The best forums to get answers to your questions the Zope and Plone mailing lists (I am cc'ing the main zope list in case anyone else has ideas). The collector is not a discussion forum or a place to discuss application code. "Write-on-read" means that objects are changed when they are viewed. If this happens on nearly every request, then the size of the database will balloon. Since writing to an object is very easy in Zope and can happen in a myriad of ways, you will need to do a bit of debugging to determine where in your application (or a third party add-on) this is happening. This is not debugging Zope, it is debugging your app. -Casey On Wed, 5 May 2004 23:07:32 +0300 Turkia M <turkia(a)james.hut.fi> wrote: > > hello, > you are probably right. what I was hoping for was any advice on how to > fix the database to a consistent state. we are losing 3 months of work > here. i was not expecting to have to debug zope and plone to finish > this project and i may not have enough experience to do that, at least > not with this timetable. > > anyway, i tried to create a new plone instance, copy-paste the data to > the new instance and remove the mentioned > products and the old instance. > at first the db size returned to normal. however none of the users in > plone object's acl_users could log in anymore. and after running a > script that was intended to fix owner attributes of objects in member > directories the db exploded again and it didn't fix the login problem. > i'll include the script if it helps any. btw. using recursive=1 > somehow froze the whole system. > i didn't really understand what the "writes occur for read requests" > means. i recall CMFBibliography gave some error on read-only > attributes but i don't have that information anymore. > thanks, > mika > > from Products.PythonScripts.standard import html_quote > request = container.REQUEST > RESPONSE = request.RESPONSE > > import string > Members = context.Members > r=[] > for i in Members.objectIds(): > try: > u = container.portal_membership.getMemberById(i); > m = getattr (Members, i) > except: > pass > else: > if u is not None: > context.plone_utils.changeOwnershipOf(m, i, recursive=0) > r.append(i + " changed") > else: > r.append(i + " not changed") > return string.join (r,'\n') > > > > > On Wed, 5 May 2004, Collector: Zope Bugs, Features, and Patches ... > wrote: > > Issue #1314 Update (Reject) "ZODB size explosion" > > Status Rejected, Database/bug critical > > To followup, visit: > > http://zope.org/Collectors/Zope/1314 > > > > ============================================================== > > = Reject - Entry #2 by Caseman on May 5, 2004 9:58 am > > > > Status: Pending => Rejected > > > > It is highly unlikely that this is a Zope bug. squid and zope's inheritance
by Adam 05 May '04

05 May '04

I really like the http cache manager that comes with zope, its a great idea. The only problem I have is that if you use zope's inheritance, you end up with stale pages in the cache. If I change file.html, it only gets purged as /file.html, and so when anyone accesses /subdir/file.html they still get a cached version. Is there any way to work around this besides not using inheritance? Thanks Adam

Hello, Where do i go in zope to change the time format? I enter in a MM-DD-YYYY format into the date field after making a request, and it instantly changes it back to DD-MM-YYYY, how can i prevent this? Any help would be greatly appreciated, Alex
