CMF

Is the CMF still used in Zope? I have looked briefly at the documentation for CMF and Plone - they appear similar. What is the difference - does it make sense to use CMF for developing new sites? The CMF documentation is referenced on the main zope site http://cmf.zope.org/Members/beehive/ZWACKChap5.html but it seems quite old - last updated in 2001, and some notes about a scheduled move, which apperantly has already taken place... ExternalEditor: can't get temp_dir to work

Howdy, Win2000 in my ZopeEdit.ini is the following; [general] editor = c:/vim/vim62/gvim.exe temp_dir = c:/temp the 'editor' line works fine, but the dir for local storage is always the default temp dir. I've tried things like temp_dir = c:\temp temp_dir = c:\\temp temp_dir = c:/temp/ What am I doing wrong? Thanks, Kent

Zope : 2.4.4 beta CMFoption : 1.1 hi, i create some CMFextFile ( id= test.doc , title = test.doc , content = winword document) from CMFOptions product, but when i want to edit it by webdav protocol, my file is in read only. I tried some solution given on the web but with no success. I notice that in the webdav management console, my object doesn't appear as locked whereas a file object open by webdav protocol appears as locked. Other thing , in my zope log : For a CMFExtfile , LOCK header is present but...... For a File LOCK header is present and it's good. Somebody can give me a solution. thanks a lot. fabien

How To run current Zope 2 & 3 from CVS on Windows

If any of you Windows developers are interrested in trying out Zope 3 from the CVS, this might make it easier. How To run current Zope 2 & 3 from CVS on Windows http://www.mxm.dk/papers/run-z3-cvs-wthout-compiler/ This how-to tells how to run Zope 2 (Z2) and Zope 3 (Z3) from CVS on Windows, without access to a compiler. This probably most relevant for Windows developers that wants to stay current with Z3. Though releases are made once in a while for Z3, they are quickly outdated. So if you want to develop on it, or just try it out, you need to download it from CVS. This can be a problem for Windows developers that do not have Microsofts Visual Studio installed. The reason is that Z3 must be compiled with the same compiler as the Python install. The ususal Python Windows distribution is compiled with VS 6.0, so if you want to run Z3 with your normal installer, it must be compiled with that. Without VS 6.0 installed, that is a bit of a jam for us lowly Windows developers. There are a few ways to get around it though, even without a compiler ... regards Max M

binding to 'context' from a Python product

I've reading Zope documentation and python/lib modules and have not found a way to bind to the current folder context when I run my python product in Zope 2.7. I'm creating the product with a member function, ex(). So for example, if my product is 'sample' and the member function is 'ex', I try executing 'sample.ex()'. Inside ex(), I have the following code: def ex(self): request = context.REQUEST The product loads ok, but when ex() is called, I get an error message: Error Type: NameError Error Value: global name 'context' is not defined Thanks in advance for any tips.

Adding zope object-references to content on file system?

Hello everyone - I'm a zope newbie, teaching myself python at the same time. I have a batch of docbook files and I generate a couple of hundred HTML files (processed a couple of steps through XSL transformations). It's 400+ pages, so importing/exporting will probably take quite a long time. I thought it would make sense to continue transforming the doc on the local file system and add a link to the file location from the Zope control center. If I import the files, then I will have to remove and re-import the files each time I rebuild the document, which seems excessive... And I would need a command-line interface to do that anyway, because it makes no sense to add each file individually. Is it possible to give zope server knowledge of trees of HTML on the local file system? How do I do that? Or is there a better way? What other approaches are there to integrating large docbook documents inside Zope applications? I suspect it's not a good idea to store the XML source and dynamically generate docbook for each page, but I haven't tried that yet. -- Alan Ezust ottawa, canada

LocalFS gives read-write access. They don't use the nocall statement, so I think with an own module should be the same. However, I read a little bit before this section and saw what you mean. I tried to do it as well and it didn't work either. The same Unauthorized exception was raised.
