Hi all, we are facing few problems with LDAP UserFolder in cases where authentication from the server takes long - even 20 seconds. For that time the thread of Zope naturlly freezes to wait for the server to return data. This is problematic since the centraliced LDAP-server will for sure return a lot of the queries in that fashion - and we really can't have the application to freeze down if X number of users try to login. Has anyone implemented anything that would come over similar problems with external authentication sources? -huima

[Q] Persistence support for C wrapper extension

Hi all, I'm in the course of low-level wrapping the ODBC api. Just in case you wonder: I know of mxODBC and pyodbc, they don't fit my needs as well license-wise as technically (I want better metadata access, thread-safety etc.). I'll use my wrapper from within Zope. There will be some python wrapper around the low-level stuff and I wonder if it makes sense to add pickle-support to that python wrapper. The ODBC api is object-based and exhibits four object types: environment, connection, statement and descriptor objects each of which has a set of methods and properties. Pickle-wise I'm not so concerned about persistence across shutdown/restart cycles (I think it's reasonable to re-create your ODBC environments, connections etc. after restart) but rather about consistency across ZEO-instances. My lack of experience makes me ask here for expert advise. 1) Does the ZEO scenario demand some pickle support, e. g. to use consitent environments/connections etc. across ZEO instances or do I just misunderstand ZEO? 2) If pickle support is a good idea: What scope would you find reasonable? I. e. I can imagine that persistence of environments/descriptors could be useful while persistent connections/statements could cause more trouble than they are worth. As you can see the whole thing isn't very clear to me and so I'd appreciate your comments. TIA, andreas

help with product/zClass

I am trying to build a Product like this: adding an instance generates a folder containing an HTML template with a custom property set, and several Epoz Documents. The template has variables to render the contents of the Epoz Documents in the editable regions. I have gotten most of this to work as individual pieces so far but no luck in building a product. I know I can just write a DTML or Python script to make copies of a folder containing the files but I would then have to change every instance should the property set be revised later on. Ultimately I need for the user to be able to select the product from the add list and input the properties on the addForm. Then the constructor method would create the folder and files in the current directory. It seems simple enough but my lack of understanding of products and Zclasses is hampering me. I have closely studied all the examples and tutorials and learned a lot but none of it is helping. I would greatly appreciate any advice, pointers or suggestions. Thanks! Mike

If the latter, please note that to me, it is still not at all clear *how* to volunteer. I read http://www.zope.org/About with interest when it was announced several months ago. I noticed that the "Online click-through" agreement mentioned for content reviewers & site managers does not seem to exist (or if it does, I could not find it). I suppose one could email the working group leaders and ask about this, but their email addresses are not given. I checked again today, and that's still how things look. So, from my vantage point it looks like you're still getting the process worked out and aren't really ready to handle volunteers yet. Am I wrong? Please don't take this message as griping, I know you guys don't have a lot of time to spend on these issues, and I appreciate your efforts. P.S. On http://www.zope.org/About there are several mentions of a zweb(a)zope.org mailing list. http://www.zope.org/Resources/MailingLists does not mention a zweb list. Problems installing Zope 2.7.0

2.6.3 --> 2.7.0: Where's my w_pcgi?

Hi, Positive: Firstly thanks to all involved with Zope for the great system. I have been runing Plone over 2.6.3, and just got my 2.7.0 running and had the data moved from a to b using just an export and an import. Great! Negative: I am missing pcgi. Till now I have been using the w_pcgi installation script. However, in the 2.7.0 tgz I got from zope.org, the pcgi directory does not contain any files. WEBSERVER.txt tells me quote To install PCGI, please get the PCGI support package from XXX, and read the pcgi/README.txt file from that package. unquote Can anyone on this list tell me, what's XXX or alternatively how to make my exsisting pcgi configuration work with the new Zope? If it's a FAQ I would be also glad to be pointed to TFM which solves my problem. Cheers, Wolfgang

Ape & MySQL: Error adding ZODB MountPoint

Hi, I want to add a ZODB MountPoint for an ape MySQL-Storage (My environment: MySQL-Server version 4.0.0-alpha-nt, Zope 2.7, WinXP). The MySQL-Server is running and I added a database named 'ape'. Trying to add a MySQL-connection to the Zope root object I always get an "Access denied for user: '@localhost' to database 'ape' " Error if I use just 'ape' as connection string. A connection is possible with a user from the acl_users. So I have some questions: 1. What should be the id for that MySQL-connection? 2. What user have to be added to acl_users? 3. What should be the connection string? 1 - Images on fly from DB

Hi ! My problem is that: I have an image "library" in FireBird database (gdb). I want to show the images in zope site, but I don't know, how to transform from blob field to real image (in html page). I want to use this conversion time-to-time, not at once, because it is database specific "data". Can anyone help me ? Hello ! I have a product, in beta version, but it is useable. It is create dynamic update sql-s. If anyone have some time, please try it/test it. It is working with KinterBasDB DA, but can work with MySQL, and PGSQL, if you redefine some variables in it. So if you have a little time to help me with useful ideas, or other opinions, please do that... I very wonder, what is your experience in MySQL, PGSQL, and how I develop this tool to better than actual version.
