Zope and Javascript
by Asad Habib 16 Apr '04

16 Apr '04

Does anyone know of any resources that describe the use of Javascript within Zope? In particular, I am trying to call a Javascript function using the onChange event handler that is tied to a HTML select element. I need this Javascript function to perform an SQL query and then have it populate another HTML select element with the result set. Is this possible within Zope considering that queries are performed by Z SQL methods and possible other factors that I am unaware of? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. - Asad

Hi, I have a python script in which I call a zsqlmethod and pass to it some args, If I pass 255 args everything ok (dont ask why I need so many args its not your business :-), If I pass more than 255 args to zsqlmethod then when hitting the python script "save changes" button I get the following error (Note: the error appears when clicking the save changes button of the Python Script): Exception Type ValueError Exception Value chr() arg not in range(256) Traceback (innermost last): * Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 100, in publish * Module ZPublisher.mapply, line 88, in mapply * Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 40, in call_object * Module Products.PythonScripts.PythonScript, line 132, in ZPythonScriptHTML_editAction * Module Products.PythonScripts.PythonScript, line 151, in ZPythonScript_edit * Module Products.QuotaFolder, line 240, in QA_ps_write * Module Products.PythonScripts.PythonScript, line 419, in write * Module Products.PythonScripts.PythonScript, line 272, in _makeFunction * Module Products.PythonScripts.PythonScript, line 231, in _compile * Module Products.PythonScripts.PythonScript, line 225, in _compiler * Module RestrictedPython.RCompile, line 85, in compile_restricted_function * Module RestrictedPython.RCompile, line 68, in compileAndTuplize * Module RestrictedPython.RCompile, line 63, in compile * Module compiler.pycodegen, line 245, in getCode * Module compiler.pyassem, line 371, in getCode * Module compiler.pyassem, line 477, in convertArgs * Module compiler.pyassem, line 513, in _convert_LOAD_CONST * Module compiler.pycodegen, line 245, in getCode * Module compiler.pyassem, line 373, in getCode * Module compiler.pyassem, line 579, in makeByteCode * Module compiler.pyassem, line 673, in addCode ValueError: chr() arg not in range(256) Any clue? Zope startup - no Internet connection
by Roger Fisher 16 Apr '04

16 Apr '04

I wish to run Zope in a "standalone" mode on a Windows/XP laptop, that is not necessarily connected to the Internet. This is to allow "offline" development and also to demonstrate our application in situations where there is no Internet connectivity - the browser, Zope, SQL are all operating on my laptop. I have found in the past that the Zope server will not start up unless there is an active Internet connection. Once it is started, the connection can go away and Zope will continue to operate correctly. This means that I can startup Zope in my office (where I am connected), then hibernate my machine, and resume my work in another (disconnected) location. The problem is that if I have to reboot the machine at a disconnected location, I can no longer demonstrate my work or continue development. Has anybody discovered a solution to this dilemma? To be able to start up the Zope server on a windows machine that is not actively connected to the Internet. Thank you.

How do I access DTML namespaces from a script that calls a script ?
by Russell Fine 16 Apr '04

16 Apr '04

I am having a small problem understanding the DTML namespace and context objects. I'm calling a python script object from within DTML. Within the script object, I have "_" set to the DTML namespace so that I can access any object within the request object (and the calling DTML). However, when I make a call from within that script to another script, I lose access to "_" and to the acquisition path from the DTML namespace down through the request. How do I carry all this information from call to call inside of python scripts ? Russell Fine

Hello. How would one provide alternate images based on i18n. For example: if english show image 1 if portuguese show image 2 I have been looking for ZPT examples, but everything I have found so far relates to translating text strings. Why does calling python scripts with and without quotes have a different resulting namespace ?
by Russell Fine 15 Apr '04

15 Apr '04

In DTML, when I call a script (let's call is S) using <dtml-var S> the script receives the DTML namespace as "_". However, when I call it using <dtml-var "S()"> the script seems to getting an empty namespace. Aren't these two identical ? Russell Fine
