Authentication problem with Zope 2.6.1
by Nicholas Dunham 01 Apr '04

01 Apr '04

Hello all, I'm trying to disable anonymous access on Zope 2.6.1, but every time I do, everything below the level of the folder I make this change to becomes inaccessible even with a proper username and password. That is, if I disable anonymous access to a Plone site under Zope, that Plone site can no longer be accessed no matter what username and password is tried, though objects higher in the directory tree are fine. If I make the change to Zope's root folder, all of Zope becomes inaccessible, even with an admin password created in zpasswd.py, and I have to restore the entire installation from a backup to get back in again. Aside from this, passwords seem to be working fine--I enter a password to access the Manage screen, for example, and it works as I'd expect. I'm trying to disable anonymous access by going to the Security tab, unchecking "Anonymous" and "Acquire permission settings" everywhere "Anonymous" is currently checked, and replacing that with "Authenticated." The username I'm trying to log in with has all the necessary permissions. This problem occurs whether I'm accessing the site through Apache (using mod_rewrite and mod_ssl) or directly on port 8080. Further information: after three tries at authentication on an affected object, the following traceback is displayed: * Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 134, in publish_module * Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 49, in publish * Module Zope.App.startup, line 120, in zpublisher_exception_hook * Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 49, in publish * Module ZPublisher.mapply, line 32, in mapply * Module ZPublisher.Publish, line 38, in call_object * Module App.Management, line 67, in manage_workspace Unauthorized: You are not authorized to view this object. (Also, an error occurred while attempting to render the standard error message.) Interestingly, when I look at the Site Error Log, under Exception traceback it does list my correct username after "User Name (User Id)". I'm very confused. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Session and IE problem
by Panna Cotta 01 Apr '04

I've build a site that uses sessions. The setting is: 1) a web redirection to our ip: www.asite.com -> 123.45.67.89:8080 2) apache redirects with mod_rewrite to Zope 3) Zope is called with 123.45.67.89:8080/Store and sends 123.45.67.89:80 back 4) the user has to log in and the session is created Except of IE (I test it with version 6) all the browsers are working fine. When I call 123.45.67.89:8080 directly also IE is working.. What can I do? I've just searched for hours the archive...

Zope install error on Fedora Core 1
by hpinson＠indepthl.com 01 Apr '04

01 Apr '04

Hello. I am installing Zope 2.7 on Fedora Core 1. First, I have installed the Python python2.3-2.3.3-2pydotorg.i386.rpm alongside the existing Python 2.2. That went well. Then I began the zope install with: "./configure --prefix=/var/zope" That worked: "The optimum Python version (2.3.3) was found at /usr/bin/python2.3." Then I ran: make Which died with the error: "error: invalid Python installation: unable to open /usr/lib/python2.3/config/Makefile (No such file or directory) make: *** [build] Error 1" I have no idea how to proceed. Does anyone have any suggestions? Harlow Pinson Indepth Learning Email: hpinson(a)indepthl.com Web: http://www.indepthl.com Voice: 505-994-2135 FAX: 208-475-7678

RE: [Zope] Authenticate with Windows Domain

Thanks for all of the advice. Does anyone know of a way to take the windows credentials that the user is signed onto the local machine with and pass those to zope for authentication? Zope Product - zipfile not compressing
by Istvan Albert 01 Apr '04

01 Apr '04

Hello folks, I wrote a custom zope product that I wanted to use create a zip archive from some of the files on the filesystem and then send this zipfile as a download. The product works, the zipfile gets created and all the files are there, only there appears to be no compression at all. Everything is just stored. Here is how I create the archive: zip = zipfile.ZipFile(file_name, mode='w', compression=zipfile.ZIP_DEFLATED) then I keep adding with writestr: zip.writestr(zinfo, obj_data) any thoughts? thanks and best regards. Istvan.

zope and pychart
by Stephen Rudd 01 Apr '04

01 Apr '04

Hi Zope users. Please excuse another dumb question. I wish to produce some dynamic graphs inside Zope to display biological data. I am using pychart, this is clean and IMO has the best looking output for least amount of effort. I can produce graphics by writing a .png file to disk, and then reading it back to return to the client as RESPONSE. This is not optimal - why do I bother writing something to disk, to read it again to delete it? I have had a play using cStringIO, but cannot make this work. Does anyone have any pointers or examples of how I can create graphics in PyChart and display them using Zope without needing to write binary intermediates to the filesystem? BeforeDeleteException and FTP "530 Unauthorized" messages
by Joseph Kocherhans 01 Apr '04

01 Apr '04

I've just spent a few hours digging around in ZServer and friends. I haven't wrapped my head around everything, but the basic idea I get is that if a user is not allowed to delete objects from a container, then either an Unauthorized or Forbibben exception is raised (I'm still not able to tell which). This is then translated to it's respective code (401 or 403) and set as the status of an Response object. Then, in FTPServer the 401 or 403 is returned to the ftp client as "530 Unauthorized" I have a product that is using BeforeDeleteException to veto object deletion. I would expect that when I tried to delete the object via FTP that the ftp client would get "530 Unauthorized", but it gets nothing and the BeforeDeleteException is going uncaught. It seems to me that in ZServer the http response status is directly tied to the exception type (either Unauthorized or Forbidden.) Does anyone how I might go about geting the ftp server to return "530 Unauthorized" if object deletion is vetoed with BeforeDeleteException? Or more specifically how a BeforedDeleteException could change the response status to 401 or 403 (which is more appropriate?) Also, is this a bug, or is there some reason the BeforeDeleteException goes uncaught? Any insight would be much appreciated. Thanks, joseph

two object is the same
by zope＠netchan.cotse.net 31 Mar '04

31 Mar '04

In my unittest, I have to check that a specified zodb object is the same (e.g. not deleted and recreated) after an operation as it was before. I thought I could do this: ob = df._getOb(drid) [...] # do something if ob is not df._getOb(drid): # object changed ('df' is inherited from Folder, 'ob' is from SimpleItem) However this doesn't work because the 'is' operator uses the memory address of the objects and these are not the same in subsequent calls: (Pdb) id(df._getOb(drid)) 177727520 (Pdb) id(df._getOb(drid)) 177727424 (Pdb) id(df._getOb(drid)) 177727520 (Pdb) id(df._getOb(drid)) 177727424 (Pdb) id(df._getOb(drid)) 177727520 (Pdb) id(df._getOb(drid)) 177727424 Is there any deterministic way for performing the check above? Regards, Sandor
