Question about possible Data.fs corruption
by Ira Sher 11 Mar '04

11 Mar '04

hello all, I recently took over managing a zope site for a small nonprofit. I'm new to Zope and python, and the people who built the site don't have time to maintain it--it arrived in my hands with problems. If a certain kind of object (a "reader's guide") is added to the database, it breaks the site as soon as a person tries to view the new object. We have to restart from a previous version of Data.fs (running Zope 2.5.1, python 2.1, on Debian). I have a copy of the site on an OS 10.3 box with python 2.3 and Zope 2.6.4rc2--on this, the Zope server doesn't come down entirely, but does throw this error when I try to nav to the index page after an update: File /.../Traversable.py, line 106, in unrestrictedTraverse (Object: Zope) (Info: (['105586758764', 'Neela Vaswani', 'Authors'], '')) IndexError: string index out of range The file referred to is the new reader's guide object--I'm not sure why it's being called when I'm simply going to the site index page from an unrelated page, but this is no doubt integral to the problem. The folks who built the site and myself have peeled back this transaction numerous times. Things are packed before that. Nothing else causes problems. Thinking this could be a Data.fs corruption issue, I've run fstest, fsrefs, checkbtrees(none of which complain), and tranalyzer (which breaks almost immediately with "Not enough data left" back in transactions 3 years old). Planning to begin taking back enough transactions that things cease breaking, I've also used a verbose fsrecover to find recent transaction locations, and truncated a copy of the Data.fs file to these--this has created a POSKeyError at 0000000000000002 (site won't start, can't even set app = Zope.app() in python because it throws me an error there, too, so I can't view the object). And...that's where I stand. Any suggestions on how to handle this? I would appreciate any advice on either how to proceed, or rethink the problem. thanks in advance, ira

Acquiring A subfoldere'd item
by Roy Rapoport 11 Mar '04

11 Mar '04

Imagine this directory structure: / /foobar.pt /foo /foo/bar.pt /baz /baz/alpha /baz/alpha/beta.ps If I'm in beta.ps and want to invoke foobar.pt, I can simply refer to context['foobar.pt'] and let acquisition take care of the rest. I'm looking for a way, however, from within beta.ps, to refer to bar.pt. Unfortunately, context['foo/bar.pt'] doesn't quite seem to do it. Finding (and changing) ZSQL methods with given ODBC connectors
by Roy Rapoport 11 Mar '04

11 Mar '04

We're looking at a desire to find all ZSQL methods that have a given ODBC connector and changing the connector they're using. Today, we could use Zopelabs' "Display All ZSQL Methods" recipe (http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/994372502) to find ZSQL methods, but I'm having a bit of a problem limiting this to just the ones that have the ODBC connector; then, I'm also looking for pointers on changing it (though I assume once I know how to query for it I'll know how to set it?). Any useful pointers? -roy Content-Type: text/plain; charset="iso-8859-1" ------------------------------------------------- PLEASE READ THIS WARNING: Investment in securities involves the risk of loss. Object reload event?
by Dylan Jay 10 Mar '04

10 Mar '04

I have an object that uses manage_afterAdd to install several subobjects. When this object is refreshed or zope is started I want to have a method run on each instance of that object to ensure these subobjects are still there and are of the right type. How do I do this? How to convert string to list without eval or exec
by Josef Meile 10 Mar '04

10 Mar '04

Hi, I've seen this question here several times. Even I made it once long time ago. I could solve it easily because I didn't have a complex list. But for the people, with lists of lists, here are really nice approachs: http://groups.google.ch/groups?hl=de&lr=&ie=UTF-8&threadm=mailman.166.10788… If the link doesn't works, then just copy and paste this on google: "How to convert string to list without eval or exec" group:comp.lang.python.* Regards, Josef

import acl_users folder...
by Gary G Zhu 10 Mar '04

10 Mar '04

Hi, How do I import acl_users folder that I exported from a zope 2.6 instance to a zope 2.7 instance? This is acl_users folder in root. I get "Error Value: The id "acl_users" is invalid - it is already in use." when I tried to import it. If I delete the current acl_users folder, I lock myself out immediately. Thanks, Gary

zope products with associated folders
by Stephen Rudd BIOINF 10 Mar '04

10 Mar '04

I have a slowly maturing Zope product that is now associated (thanks John) with a folder like object through OFS.ObjectManager. What would be the 'right' way to read text or DTML from a known object within the project's Zope folder into the product. I am working on a product that will perform some bioinformatics tricks with data in a database and would like users to be able to modify the templates for how data is displayed, and to allow for the intergration of project specific acknowlegement tags. Please excuse me if this is a dumb question - I could really do with some pointers into more advanced Zope product writing - the Zope Bible has been assimilated, I need more info! speeding up multiple file upload
by zope＠netchan.cotse.net 10 Mar '04

10 Mar '04

Our just finished project implements a product which includes a domain specific repository-like thing what have to handle multiple (100-1000) file uploads. In a new project, we will implement a more general version of this repository as a standalone product. The old one works quite well but there's a lot of room for improving performance in which I seek your advices now. The relevant part of the old stuff is a client-server application. The following steps are made in a transaction: - client generates a filelist, sends it to the server [xml-rpc] - server determines which files should be uploaded (changed files) sends back the result [xml-rpc] - client collects all the files into a large zip (they are more or less regular web content, well compressible), sends to the server [http multipart/form-data] - server unzips and stores the files in ZODB All communication is done via ssl, so the connect-disconnect operation is quite expensive. The two longest operation is the upload and the unzip/store and theoretically these could be done in an asynchronous consumer-producer setup. I'm looking for something like network copy of multiple files via tar, e.g.: tar -xzf- | ssh remoteserver "tar -czf-" The aim is to send all the files over the same channel, one by one, and start server side processing as soon as the first file arrived. Now, this is completely doable with pure python, the question is how should I do this when Zope is the receiver? Both the client and the server part is under our control so any wild idea would work, the only restriction is the all communtication must go over port 443, because both the clients and the server are firewalled. Any hints or pointers would be appreciated. Regards, Sandor

It should be quickly apparent that it has failed, since no Python will be found. My guess is that the -n flag should stay around rather than the -f, but I imagine there's a good reason for both, and it's strange that AIX doesn't tolerate this. >Who should I contact to have this changed? > > File a bug in the Zope collector. This should be easy to address if the semantic issues aren't hard. --jcc -- "He who fights with monsters should look to it that he himself does not become a monster. VerboseSecurity and Zope270 on Windows
by Peter Bengtsson 10 Mar '04

10 Mar '04

I downloaded the, I think, latest version of VerboseSecurity fron cvs.zope.org but can't get it to patch. On my WindowsXP I have:: security-policy-implementation python in my zope.conf and my runzope.bat file also has:: @set ZOPE_SECURITY_POLICY=PYTHON When I fire up zope the usual way (i.e. with runzope.bat) it says:: 2004-03-08T18:59:09 INFO(0) VerboseSecurity Unable to patch PermissionRole. To see permission names in Unauthorized exceptions, add 'security-policy-implementation python' to zope.conf. But I have done that. So, how should I do it? Cheers, Peter -- Peter Bengtsson, http://www.peterbe.com
