Re: [Zope-dev] Adapters in Zope 2

From: "Santi Camps" <santi(a)zetadb.com> > I've been trying to add some extra functionallity to a Folder object > without inheriting, but I'm not able to make it work. First question is "Why?". Unless you want to change the fucntionality of *all* folder objects inheriting is the way to go. > Anybody knows if there is a way to use adapters in zope2 ? Or, if not, > there is some other way to add functionallity on-the-fly, without > inheriting ? MonkeyPatching. Python is highly dynamic. You rewrite the methods to how you would like them, and then you replace them with a quick. TheClass.OldMethod = NewMethod. And now you call the new method with object = TheClass() object.OldMethod() Very cool.

external methods and pyc files
by Richard Jolly 10 Feb '04

10 Feb '04

Hi, I'm new to Zope, and I've inherited a project with a bug that I've been unable to solve for a couple of days. Please excuse any wrong-terminology. There is a zope installation, with two containers under the root folder. In each of these there is an external method having the same name, 'search'. On the public side of the site its clear that, on occaision, the wrong one of these external methods is called. Root A methx_search B methx_search The methx's contain sql statements pointing to different databases, and the error messages I get are sql errors ( 'no column ...' ), which is why its pretty clear which one is being called. I couldn't find any obvious reason why the wrong one was being called, but I found I could disambiguate the external methods by renaming them A_methx_search and B_methx_search in the ZMI, and saving the methods to reload them. This worked, albeit proving I don't understand the root of the problem, however... The customer installation of this only includes the .pyc files that contain the external methods. When I try to rename and reload with the .pyc files only in the Extensions folder the problem does not get solved. When I remove the .pyc files and put the original .py files in place, everything works fine. What is going on? Finally, when I have .py files only, no .pyc files are generated, which I find slightly confusing. Thanks, Richard

Plone installation
by John Poltorak 10 Feb '04

10 Feb '04

When installing Plone I see a DCWorkflow in the tarball, but I already have one. Does the new on replae the old one or should it be installed over the old one? Also when trying to add my first Plone site, I get:- Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: AttributeError Error Value: get Does this sound like a common problem? What have I missed? Any idea where I should look to see what is wrong? -- John

BitPass micropayment product for Zope
by Davis Marques 10 Feb '04

10 Feb '04

hi everyone; I recently became interested in using the Bitpass micropayment system to sell access to some content on one of my web sites, and spent about a week developing a Zope implementation of the Bitpass gateway file -- this is a script you install on your server to enable use of the Bitpass service. Anyway, I've got a substantial amount of work done in implementing a python version of their gateway but I'm about to start a new job and will be too overloaded to continue working on it. If anyone else is interested in using the Bitpass service, and has some time to help finish up the coding, I can email you a tarball with the work I've got done so far. Perhaps we can collaborate to complete it? I think this could be a really valuable product for the Zope community. Davis

Locked Out
by Wade Pearce 10 Feb '04

10 Feb '04

Greetings all, Having done a stupid thing and experimenting with user authentication, I have managed to lock myself out of the folder controlled by a PostgreSQL User Folder. I can access the top level (because it uses standard Zope authentication) but everytime I try to access the sub-folder with the above acl_users, it tells me it is forbidden. Is there a way for myself to bypass the lower-level security so as I can remove this acl_users folder and reinstate it. I've tried the Undo option to no avail. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ok...thank god I know where to look. A quick search turned up the following cookbook document that solved my problem: http://www.zopelabs.com/cookbook/1054240694 Given my lack of experience in Python, I think it might be high time to consider some deeper self-teaching on the subject because it would have helped me around this a lot sooner (and reduced the stress). installing CMF 2.4.1
by Børge Kjeldstad 09 Feb '04

09 Feb '04

Hi there! I have downloaded windows version of CMF 2.4.1 and used WinZip to unpack it. On the install info page http://cmf.zope.org/download/CMF-1.4.2/INSTALL.txt I read the following: "Note for Windows users: if you are using WinZip to unpack the file, be sure to disable the "TAR file smart CR/LF expansion" option (thanks to Frank McGeough for tracking down this problem!)" Now I wonder what this actually means? Or what I actually am told to do here? Is it something I shoul do in WinZip, or something I should do after I have unzipped the file? Thank you for any kind answers! Have a nice day : ) Børge
