Experience with Ape
by Paolo Bizzarri 02 Jan '04

02 Jan '04

Hi everyone, we are playing around with Ape and DBTab. It seems really a nice product, and we would like to migrate our application to it. Our main concern is scalability. As far as we see, it seems that it can easily generate tables with lot of entries. We will have to put easily 100.000 objects in it, so we could come up with tables with more than 1.000.000 entries. Has someone tried with a similar setup ? Which are the performance using a SQL storage using a large number of objects ? Thank you and happy new year. One letter search in ZCatalog
by Elizabeth 02 Jan '04

02 Jan '04

I apoligize in advance if this is a simple problem that has been addressed previously, I have looked through the archives with no luck. I put together a ZCatalog Search (PrincipiaSearchSource), I thought it was working fine, then I noticed that if I do a search for a single character (standard alphanumeric) it returns: Error Type: IndexError Error Value: list index out of range This will not do. I need a simple solution to make this error not occur, either make the Search search for these single characters, or give the user a message saying their search must include more characters. It's quite a hassle to get more things installed on this Zope server, so if there is a solution with just the basic Zope 2.6 install that would be preferable. Thanks. -- Elizabeth K. // Lyz(a)PrincessLeia.com http://www.princessleia.com

TextIndexNG Similar search HELP!!!
by Joel Jensen 01 Jan '04

01 Jan '04

I am trying to do a SQL LIKE query on a lastname attribute of a zclass. ie. show me all the lastnames LIKE 'cronkyte' should return cronkite... I am trying to use TextIndexNG to do this. I need to get the Similarity search part of TextIndexNG working. I can create a working TextIndexNG using the Zope management interface, this index will return EXACT matches, but not similar ones. However the ZMI does not appear to have a way to activate the Similarity search. How do I use the Similarity search in a query? Thanks I am using zope 2.6.1 mandrake linux 9.1 python 2.1.x Joel Jensen

RE: survey: zope 2.7 syntax errors with TAL statments over multiple lines

Experimenting a bit further, it doesn't appear to be Windows-only. I have a text editor that saves Unix linefeeds (\n) by default. I still get the problem using that. SO this needs to happen. However, neither the attribute value nor Python would care if there were line feeds in the example locations or not - as long as they were real line feeds and not escape characters, anyway. If the TAL expressions were truly XML, and one wanted line breaks, they ought to read like this - "python:test( no_types == 1
, 'Add New ' + types[0].Title()
, 'Add New Item')" Cheers, Tom P

Ah, thanks Evan. So, are you proposing a fix in Zope or shall I post bugs to the various products? - Gerry Gerry Kirk Project Manager www.faithonline.com www.dioceseonline.com > -----Original Message----- > From: Evan Simpson [mailto:evan@4-am.com] > Sent: December 31, 2003 2:57 PM > To: Gerry Kirk > Cc: plone-users(a)lists.sourceforge.net; zope(a)zope.org > Subject: Re: survey: zope 2.7 syntax errors with TAL > statments over multiple lines > > > Gerry Kirk wrote: > > Any time a TAL statement extends over multiple lines, I get a syntax > > error, like this one: > > > > in expression "python:test( no_types == 1\r\n , > > 'Add New ' + types[0].Title()\r\n , 'Add New Item')" > > I see a problem -- those '\r\n' shouldn't be there. Python on Linux, and ZPT, expect all lines to end with '\n'. I'm not sure how these are slipping in, but I suspect that the cause is writing ZPT text using a Windows tool. We can fix this when reading from a file by using the new 'U' mode. Cheers, Evan @ 4-am
