I'm clumsy with XML-RPC.

It's been a long time since I poked at Zope with XML-RPC. I was hoping to start using it for a very public set of tools, but the only things I can do right now are very clumsy. I have a Python Script, "test", in Zope with parameters "first=None, second=None". The Script just "prints" and returns the values. Trying what would seem to be an elegant way of calling it, Zope_server.test(first='foo', second='bar') yields an error. TypeError: __call__() got an unexpected keyword argument 'second' O.k., so I fall back to an old script I wrote that uses Meerkat (which still works!) and see that I can pass it a dictionary. Try again. Zope_server.test({'first': 'foo', 'second': 'bar'}) "first={'second': 'bar', 'first': 'foo'}\nsecond=None\n" That still doesn't give me access to "second". I've been looking in the obvious places for examples with multiple parameters but I've found none. Any pointers? (I think I originally worked from an article by Jon Udell at Byte but it seems to have disappeared.) The obvious alternative is to ditch XML-RPC and just use plain HTTP. Zope knows how to handle HTTP well enough and I'm quite comfortable with it, so it's almost my preference. I just thought that XML-RPC seemed like a cleaner way to handle this (and I'd recommended it for some other uses so I thought I should get some real experience with it). Thank you. --kyler

RE: [Zope] File upload manager similar to OWL for Zope?

I think you mis-understood. I cannot use any file protocols. That is why we use Owl to upload and download documents/files to a central web source, but I have to have the files and directories available via the OS to allow running SCP if needed or if the Web interface is down. I've a question about PHParser
by Gabriela López Ruiz 26 Dec '03

26 Dec '03

Hi all, I've a question. I'm trying to execute a simple PHP script in my Zope environment (just to try the functionality). I've created a PHParser object and I changed the path in the PHParser .py source according to the path where I installed executable PHP. But when I try to execute it I get the following error: 'D:\Program Files\PHP\php.exe' may not be a PHP-CGI program. The result from the program is empty(0 byte). Perhaps the PHP I downloaded is not the correct one. I downloaded the PHP 4.3.4 installer (for Windows) from the following URL: http://www.php.net/downloads.php. I checked the path but its correct. I dont know whats the problem. If you can help me I will be thanked. Gabriela. _________________________________________________________________ MSN Amor: busca tu ½ naranja http://latam.msn.com/amor/

Sessions and User Authentication
by kittonian 24 Dec '03

24 Dec '03

I'm doing a project for a band's fan club and the objective is to have users go through a registration process (consisting of 3 separate pages), a review stage, have an e-mail confirmation sent to them with a clickable link that they can then click on and confirm their registration, and a members only section of the website where only the fan club members are allowed to gain access. I have all the pages created and the database all designed and running. I even have all the select fields based off of a table in the db and working properly. I am not sure how to proceed on a number of levels. 1. I need to have the members login from the first page of the fan club. Since their user information is stored in the database and I do not want to create a user account in zope for each user (there will be tons of users) I need to have them authenticate to gain access only to that specific members folder. At no time should anyone be able to bookmark a members only page and access it again without first authenticating. I also need to make sure that after a specific amount of time of inactivity their session expires. 2. I need to properly validate each and every form field in specific ways (i.e. for the phone number there should be no letters entered and only the correct amount of digits should be allowed). There are a lot of fields which all need specific validation rules. 3. I need to have sessions for the signup process so that the user can go back and correct information if they need to do so prior to confirming their submission and being sent the confirmation e-mail message. Can anyone give me a hand with these issues? This is the last portion of this signup process and I need to get it done quickly since the band's new record is coming out in a couple of weeks. I am always in #zope on freenode as well as on irc.macgenius.net port 6667 in #macgenius. My nick is kittonian. Thanks in advance for any and all assistance. kittonian
