- Project I'd like to try. Suggestions?

Hi, all. I've been a longtime Bobo user and list lurker, and am just getting my toes into the deep Zope waters. I've come up with an idea to get myself started at playing with code, and I'd like to get a little feedback about how to go about it before I plunge in. I'd like to design a roll-over button class, where you would have, say, two images and a method that spits out some HTML and Javascript to do a rollover sequence. At first I'd be happy to get just the objects to appear on the web, maybe with a method to upload data, and then turn them into full-blown Products (which I take to mean that they'll be web-editable). I'll gladly donate this code to the Zope effort if it works out nicely. Does anybody have any pointers, suggestions, et al before I try to get started? I am at Zope Zen 0.1 at this point and am still awaiting the lightbulbs (although I know they're there somewhere)... I want to add an index_html to my folderiod object, but I only want to do that if the parent object is not the same as the object that I am adding. I thought I could use the isinstance() function but I get this message. Thanks for your quick response. This leads me to another question. What (is|will be) the process for submitting code for possible inclusion in Zope? I realize it is Zope is an infant in the opensource world. Perhaps a roadmap on the Zope site would be appropriate. OpenLDAP has done something similar. Note that Zope does not use flat files for authentication - it uses objects ;) This makes it relatively simple to devise new objects which draw authentication info from other sources. We have created variations on the standard Zope "UserFolder" object (the standard built-in auth. object) which get their authentication info from sql databases, the host operating system, etc. I think it is certainly a good idea and that others would find such a thing useful. Hello all, I'm evaluating the use of Zope in some of our intranet projects. One thing that would be extremely helpful in selling the idea (even to myself) would be if authentication could tie into our existing LDAP authentication systems. I apologize for not having looked at the code yet, but a quick answer would be beneficial. How feasible would it be to move Zope authentication from flat files to other authentication databases (LDAP, NIS, etc.)? - FYI: No Aqueduct for beta2

Sorry, I should have announced this yesterday. Tomorrow's beta2 won't include the RDBMS integration from Aqueduct. We have taken a message that the number of emails means usability is of prime importance. Thus, we focused this week on getting things under control and trying to get some more documentation ready. Adding the RDBMS stuff was really just adding more things that could break. Having the binary kits that include precompiled Zope, precompiled Python, and precompiled/preconfigured Apache should erase many of the problem reports. People can start with these, get it working, then tackle the source releases if they wish. Getting out more docs will hopefully overcome some of the frustration with our initial beta release. Look for the Aqueduct stuff very soon, certainly by next Friday's beta3. - FYI: Medusa license and Zope

OK, cat number two is out of the bag. I'm pleased to announce that Digital Creations and Sam Rushing have reached an agreement allowing Medusa to be embedded in Zope under Zope's license. This clears the way for us to quickly introduce high-scale HTTP and FTP support, plus the telnet access into the interpreter. It also provides the way for us to plug in other protocols over time. Most importantly, however, it forms the backbone of our concurrency architecture for Zope 2.
