Wow! such a quick response :) I'm using gcc and the gnu ld, both version 2.8.1 problem occurs when the DocumentTemplate shared library is being made (I think its the first shared library to be made?), and the line is: ld -G cDocumentTemplate.o -o cDocumentTemplate.so The linker aborts and core dumps. looking at ld's man page, it seems that -G is not the right option. (it requires a size argument and is for MIPS ECOFF files) the man page does mention -g, which is ignored and is mostly for 'compatibility with other tools' so doing ld cDocumentTemplate.o -o cDocumentTemplate.so gives a whole slew of error messages, like: /src/sol2/Python-1.5.1/Zope-1.9b1-src/lib/python/DocumentTemplate/././cDocum entTemplate.c:944: undefined reference to `Py_InitModule4' Does this mean the linker isnt being told to make a shared library? the man page says it should be the default.... I've made python successfully so I assume that the config process/info is ok/correct... Thanks for listening! Binaries versions for both platforms will be available tomorrow. Several people (including myself) are running Zope on Solaris. What compiler are you using and what errors are generated? Hi, I just came across zope (been using python for some time now to write web scripts). I had trouble installing zope on a solaris machine (there was trouble making the shared .so library files) so I tried on a win32 machine, with not much more luck. I followed David Ascher's clear instructions, but when I run python serve.py, I get a message box with the following text: "The procedure entry point PySequence_Contatins could not be located in the dynamic link library python15.dll" Any ideas? I have python1.5.1 installed.... Thanks Robert

There have been a number of other small changes, most importantly Jeff Bauer's Zope Rap is now on the site ;-) I'm also working on a bigger documentation reorganization that will hopefully make things clearer. I didn't use Apache, instead I opted for the ZopeHTTPserver. The idea of the Zope or Medusa server's in more inline with my needs. I recommend it as a faster method to get going and see how Zope works. Dear All Ok, today is my first day using Python and Zope so my question, hopefully will NOT be too dumb... :) I am trying to merely bring zope back up. I think I did all the steps in INSTALL.txt, modify the access file to reflect the new password. I have tried both the web server that comes with Zope and also my own Apache setting, cannot get in either way. Hello, [humble apology] First, I'll warn that I'm new to both Python and Zope. My apologies... :) [in a nutshell:] I'm looking to a Zope/Python combo to create a Web Sub-Site Editor... I offer web reselling, and I'm attempting to put together a very low cost package where a user would get a web address in a subdirectory of my virtual domain. Instead of setting them up with a whole new ftp account and password, I would like to give them an account and password with a Web Sub-Site Editor. [build up to questions continue...] They could then log in to their account with a web browser, gaining access to a simple control panel. I'm not looking to design anything too complex, actually leaning more towards simplicity and user understandability. With this Web Control Panel they could (1) create new pages, (2) edit existing pages, (3) delete existing pages, (4) create sub directories within their own sub directory and (5) step in and out of these sub directories, maintaining the above options. They would NOT be able to step out of their own sub directories to view or edit any other directories... [finally, the questions...] 1.) Is a Python/Zope combo best suited for this type of system? Does anybody know a better combo? 2.) I've been reading through this mail list's archives, finding much interest in the Zen Zope and related threads... It sounds like there may be some existing source code out there that accomplishes similar ends; how can I get copies of this source? 3.) Has anyone compiled a quasi guide to existing source code? Something a newbie as myself could refer to that links to existing source and briefly describes the sources' functions? (If this doesn't exist, I'd be happy to start/maintain such a page; If interested, email me links to your source and preferably a little explanation, then I will compile and put it online... If the source isn't already online, email it to me and I can put it online.) 4.) Is anyone familiar with the eBay "About Me" pages? This is the type of system I'm interested in developing... <http://members.ebay.com/aw/aboutme-login.html> NOTE: Unfortunately you can't use this feature without registering with their action... Essentially it allows the creation of one web page from any of three pre-made templates. From there you can even go into the html source and fine tune things... When they do, I'll be sure to make the source available free, in the spirit of Python and Zope.
