- Zope module for Apache?

While griping about the lack of Authorization headers from Apache, one of the tech-support persons I talked to suggested making a Zope module for Apache, thereby circumventing the problem. - Zope on a Rope ah... RPM

Red Hat RPMs for Zope are now available for download at: http://starship.skyport.net/crew/jrush/ I broke it out as a base package plus your choice of a ZopeHTTPServer or PCGI package that supplies the empty object database and the HTTP glue to get a server up and running. The source RPM (SRPM) is there as well, if anyone wants to peruse the .spec file and see/alter it re dir locations, file permissions, etc. etc. I'd appreciate feedback if I've screwed something up. I've tested the RPMs under Red Hat 5.1 and they require Python 1.5.1. I haven't tested w/1.5.2a2. -Jeff Rush

It may be a good starting point for you. Other possibilities: - Upgrade your Apache if it isn't recent (not always possible) - Check to make sure mod_rewrite is compiled in: httpd -l - Try using RewriteLog with loglevel 9 and see what it says. - Remember to check the apache access and error logs. - ZODB access

Hi all. I'd like to know if there's a portable way to locally access the information in the Z object database. By portable, I mean across future releases of BoboPOS2/3. One method would be to use the BCI (now Client) interface. BCI is very useful for testing and debugging applications, but less useful for direct data access. I'd like to navigate the database from a set of root objects in the database without being requested for authorization info. Read-only mode would be okay over the short-term, but eventually I'd want to directly modify items the database. In Boboland, these issues were much simpler, because the applications were almost entirely responsible for what went into the database -- which was essentially a glorified pickle with serialized transactions. Now that we're moving into an area where a large part of the database is managed outside of the user application, (not to mention concurrency issues) I'd be interested the direction database access appears to be heading. One possible departure point would be to start with Main.py and trace its procedures, but I thought I'd ask here first, and hear what others have to suggest. Best regards, Jeff Bauer Rubicon, Inc.

I am trying to install Zope with pcgi, and have managed to make the rewriting trick in the installation guide work to the point that I can get the main page up (through a rewritten URL), but it seems that Apache won't give it the proper Authorization header... At least, authorization fails, and if i click cancel, then it complains that there was no Authorization header... Any common solutions to this sort of problem? - Zope Binary Porting Kit

This week we want to start providing binary releases of Zope that make running Zope a bit simpler for people who: - Don't have Python, - Have a Python that doesn't work with Zope, - Don't have a C compiler, or - Don't want to figure out how to deal with build problems. To make this happen, we're looking for volunteers to help us build the binary files for various versions of Unix. I've put together a binary porting kit to make this as easy as I can. The kit can be found at: http://www.zope.org/Download/ZKit/zkit-1.9.0k1.tgz Basically, all you have to do is extract this and run a script. If all goes well, everything is automagic. If not, well...let me know and we'll see if we can figure it out. :) When everything is built, just tar up the release again and send it back to me. Note that we already have or can readily create binaries for Linux 2 (glibc), Solarus 2.6 on Sparc and Intel, and Win 32 on Intel. I am thinking of implementing some kind of event loop in my bobo app (maybe in Zope too) but ... I don't know much about threads or signals. Do win NT/95 support some simple signals like alarm? I understand that having the eventloop running in a different thread can be disastrous, since a function registered in the eventloop might fight for the same resources as a function running in the main loop. The simplest idea I could come up with is to create an event class that has a method to register callbacks at specified times, similar to the one written by Tim and available through ftp.python.org. However instead of having an eventloop running, the method responsible for firing the events will be published and called by Zope/Bobo through the webserver at regular intervals. Something like: def _eventloop(self,seconds=60): '''eventloop(self,seconds=60) Treading event loop. Delay is set to seconds''' while 1: try: ##FireTimers checks all registered callbacks and fires ##those that have expired urllib.urlopen(self.abs_path+'/eventloop/FireTimers') except: pass time.sleep(seconds) def start_daemons(self): '''start_daemons(self) fires up deamon servers (eventloop)''' th=Thread(target=self._eventloop) th.start() I believe that this avoids any concurrency complications as each callback function in the event class will be called through the web server in a manner indistinguishable from any other normal client access. I have tried it with simple callbacks and it seems to work fine. But as I mentioned before I don't know much about threads so I would like the opinion of the more knowledgable folk before I spend more time. Do you see any problems? I downloaded the Zope source and David Ascher's win32 pyds. After installing Python refuses to load cDocumentTemplate (DLL seems no good - no further error reports except that it does not work - I'll wait for the binary release). Starting up 'serve.py' reveals a bug DT_Util where the exeption to load from cDocumentTemplate is caught and imported from pDocumentTemplate. After adding an empty cDocument class to DT_Util I was able to start up the server and connect. Rik Hoekstra

- Installation Problem

Version of python: Python 1.5.1 (#1, Jun 18 1998, 12:39:25) [GCC 2.7.2.3] on linux2 Operating System: Linux (Debian/GNU v2/0 on an Intel clone Box) C-Compiler: GNU's gcc v2.7.2.3 I'm having some trouble installing Zope and would appreciate some advice.
