I'd like to make a list of items returned by Zcatalog sortable by different criteria, like the how-tos on zope.org.. The user should be able to click on a headline, and the returns will be sorted by that variable. as "sort=" doesn't take expressions, i am puzzled on what to do.. Way back in the list-archives, there is mention of a product called Zieve, but i find no reference to it on the zope site. There is also the magic "sort_link" -variable used to do this on Zope.org.. What is it ? Timing SQL queries

Is there any support for timing SQL queries made by SQLMethods? For optimizing a site, it's nice to turn on a logging mode, exercise the site a bit, and then look at a log of every query and the time it took; this lets you notice redundant queries (means you need some caching) or unusually slow queries (means you need an index or a table rethink). Any suggestions on how I should implement this, if it's not already supported? -- A.M. [announce] Local File System product

I've created a product called Local File System which allows you to mount directories from the local file system in your Zope server and serve the files as regular Zope objects. It also allows browsing directory contents. This is currently a development release so I wouldn't recommend installing it on a production server. Generating non-existent documents on the fly?

Is there a way to generate non-existent documents on the fly - some kind of "rewriting" the target URL? Example site structure /root (http://localhost/) /content layout_template some_txt A user queries http://localhost/content/some.html Obviously, "some.html" does not exist. This is where some mechanism (the one I am trying to find <g>) kicks in. It will analyze the query string, detect that there is "some_txt" and "layout_template". Based on that it will generate "some.html" on the fly. Any ideas? I'd rather not want to have question marks in the query; my attempts to play with standard_error_handler unfortunately did not yield anything. Thanks!

I posted a new version of Local File System (v0.1.2) last night. http://www.zope.org/Members/jfarr/LocalFS Changes: - Fixed url escaping in directory browse view. DCOracle - Oracle8i - Again [Q]

Hi! I managed to compile DCOracle with Oracle 8i on my Sparc. I took some comments made to the list to month ago regarding the Setup file. But now I am having a diferent trouble. After compiling I want to test the DCOracle and I am getting the following error with the 'python DCOracle_test.py user/pass@sid' command: Traceback (innermost last): File "DCOracle_test.py", line 1, in ? import Buffer, oci_, sys ImportError: ld.so.1: python: fatal: relocation error: file ./oci_.so: symbol nnfyboot: referenced symbol not found Any help will be appreciated. RH 6.1 Startup error

I've been fooling with Zope under Win98. Permissions look ok and I get the same errors from startup as I do when I try and run /var/zope/zserver.sh as root. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. P.

Zope CVS setup for .py files missing?

Howdy, today, I loaded the current Zope2 CVS tree and windiff'ed it against the current source release. Windiff, which is incapable to treat CR vs. CR/LF correctly, showed me lots of changes for many .py files, which were just non-adjusted line endings. Especially the Gadfly files were stiull in Unix format. AFAIK, this is a configuration option for the CVS server, which files are to be treated as text and which not. I run a win98 machine at home that has both dial-up networking (i.e., uses a modem to connect to a service provider) and also an ethernet card (not connected to a network). Both are bound to tcpip. When I point IE5 at Zope's address (Zope running on the same machine), I get the dial-up network requestor asking if I want to dial into the service provider. But if I cancel that or tell it to work offline, then I will connect to Zope correctly. On my previous computer, also running Win98, I did not have a network card. I had to connect to my service provider using dialup networking before I could connect to the web server on my own machine (I wasn't running Zope then). Apparently I had to connect to the service provider to get Windows to load the tcpip software. Typically, the page would compute what url to ask for at the client (i.e., in the user's web browser), using (most likely) javascript to figure it out based on the user's entries in the form. The server doesn't need to be involved at all. This is desirable. You don't need Zope, ASP, Cold Fusion, etc. for this. If you want to use Zope to perform the logic anyway, you can 1) have Zope return a page based on the form contents, or 2) have Zope insert different contents into the page to be returned, depending on the form's variables.
