ZWeather strategy

Hi everyone, I'm working on a portal-like site and I'd like to display the current weather conditions on the main page. There are hundreds of stations in the U.S. (don't know about the rest of the world) that have the current weather as part of the METAR system of the National Weather Service. The reports can be retrieved from http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/metar.shtml or by anonymous ftp at ftp://weather.noaa.gov/data/observations/metar In either case you need to know the 4-letter ICAO code for your location. Can anyone recommend a strategy for this task? Some external method that goes out and grabs the latest weather codes perhaps? ZClient? I would really appreciate a suggestion. I'm still a Zope and Python newbie, and I figure this would be a good problem to work on. Selection properties - how?

I want to add a Selection property to an object. Virtual Host Folder on port 80

Hi everybody, Has anyone sucessfully run Zope with the new VirtualHostFolder product from port 80? I'm seeing a really weird bug where everything works fine whe I instruct the broweser to go to http://my-virtual-host-address.com:80/ but I get an error message back when I visit http://my-virtual-host-address.com/. The error is as follows: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: ValueError Error Value: unpack list of wrong size In addition, all images on the error page fail. I'm just wondering if anyone is running a zope system using VHFs on port 80. NT User Folder - No Domain support?

After fighting with the "NT User Folder" product for quite a while, I've run across a "feature" :) Unless your NT server is a PDC/BDC for a Domain (so that the local SAM is queried), it isn't possible to use NT User Folder for authentication of users in the Domain. I'm attempting to run Zope on an IIS server that is member server in a Domain, but not a Domain Controller of any kind. The only way to limit access seems to be by adding/deleting local users and putting them in the ACL for HKLM/Software/DigitalCreations/.../Role SO, I'm entertaining alternatives. How can I reference the users in a remote Zope User Folder? It would be nice to be able to put the "smb User Folder" on a Linux server running Zope, and merely XML-RPC the folder lookups from the NT box to the Linux box. Would it be possible to create a regular acl_users folder with the preresiquite methods defined that would merely redirect the "simulated" method to another Zope server? Yes, it's a kludge. Yes it's sick and twisted. The appropriate solution would be to put the Zope server on a BDC. However, I'm not one for the "easy way out" :) - Ian C. Blenke <icblenke(a)2c2.com> <ian(a)blenke.com>

More Pystone benchmarks...

Hi all, did some more Pystone benchmarks. As usual, with all benchmarks treat these as total fabrications... PowerMac 5400 (180 MHz 603e) running linuxppc (this is my dev box at home) = 890 iMac (266 MHz G3) MacOS 8.6 = 4800 Sun (4 x 250 MHz Ultrasparc II) running Solaris 5.6 = 2200 (lots of stuff going on) (a) Sun (1 x 350 MHz Ultrasparc IIi ) running Solaris 5.7 = 2600 (lightly loaded) (b) DELL (Pentium III 450MHz) running SUSE 6 = 5800 using Apache benchmark with a static HTML page through Apache, not Zope (page may have a couple of SSIs in it); (a) concurrency = 250, number of times = 10,000 gives 457 requests/s (b) c= 250, n = 10,000 gives 141 requests/s ie these boxes aren't slow... Disabling buttons

I'm taking over an app that uses a bunch of client side Java. The only reason I can see it uses Java is because it allows you to build logic like "if this radio button is selected, this checkbox is disabled." If there was a way to do this in a combination of DTML and Javascript then the app could use just those technologies. Has anyone got a demo of something like that? I can think of fairly convoluted ways to do it -- is there a straightforward way? Paul Prescod

ZMySQL Database Adapter - got binary ?

does anyone have a compiled binary version of the ZMySQL Database Adapter ?
