ZClass containing another ZClass

ZClass Container inherits from ObjectManager. I add inside the aforementioned ZClass another ZClass - ZClass Thingie. I want Containers to hold Thingies, so I go to the Subobjects tab of the Container ZClass - and Thingies are not in the list of objects. Once again, I must be doing something wrong.

I have created a ZClass called DImage which acts as a container for multiple Image objects and files. (I use it to store the same image at different resolutions and in different formats.) What I need to do now is convert all of my existing images over to this new object type. As a Zope Image instance only contains one image, the DImage instance will similarly contain one image. I have toyed with the idea of exporting my Images in XML format and then making changes to this text file before reimporting. Possibly it would be easier to write an external method that creates a new DImage instance, populates it with data from the Image, deletes the Image, and then renames itself. Hi Rafael, There are two approaches to your image sizing problem, neither of which are Zope-specific. The first is to use the HTML IMG tag with varying sizes and let the browser resize the image: <IMG SRC="photo1.png" HEIGHT=100 WIDTH=100> -or- <dtml-var "_.vars['photo1.png'].tag(HEIGHT=100, WIDTH=100)"> and then for the same image at a different size: <IMG SRC="photo1.png" HEIGHT=200 WIDTH=200> -or- <dtml-var "_.vars['photo1.png'].tag(HEIGHT=200, WIDTH=200)"> And the second approach is to use the Python Image Library to read in and rescale your images, either on the fly (real slow!) or to store two representations as attributes of a object's instance. In approach, perhaps you ought to create a new ZClass called 'Photograph' and provide auto-generation of several image sizes when the image is updated, and a couple of methods that return the image in different sizes. <dtml-var "photo1.thumbnail()"> -and- <dtml-var photo1> for the full-size rendition I am finishing up my "Equation Tiles" python (not zclass) product which uses these techniques. ZCatalog, CatalogAware, and ZClasses

I'm trying to expand on the ZCatalog tutorial at http://www.zope.org/Documentation/How-To/ZCatalogTutorial by creating a ZClass which automatically maintains a catalog of the CatalogAware items within it. So far, I've created: FnordProduct: Product FnordContainerClass: ZClass derived from ObjectManager Catalog: ZCatalog FnordClass: ZClass derived from CatalogAware ... along with a <classname>Info property sheet each and a matching View to boot. Surprise! When I create a FnordContainer and populate it, the Fnords inside it are catalogued in the ZCatalog in the product. That looks like inheritance (sorry, acquisition:) in action. I assume I need to doctor the FnordContainerClass_add method to create a new ZCatalog in the new FnordContainer. How do I do that? CatalogAwareness.py also mentions: This is a Mix-In class to make objects automaticly catalog and uncatalog themselves in Zope, and to provide some other basic attributes that are useful to catalog. Note that if your class or ZClass subclasses CatalogAware, it will only catalog itself when it is added or copied in Zope. If you make changes to your own object, you are responsible for calling your object's index_object method. Uh, fine. At the moment, I'm only editing my Fnords via their Properties view. How do I doctor the view so that index_object is called? Finally; I've added an index_html method to my FnordContainerClass and used the Z Search Interface pseudo-product (all it does is create DTML methods, and one day I'll investigate and find out how the beggars did it) to create search and results methods. For some reason, it can't find any of the items in the Catalog. Wierd. Any ideas? Regards, Garth. -- <gtk(a)well.com>

I had a similar problem in that I often have various incarnations of the same image (be it gif thumbnail, different resolution jpegs, maybe a postscript version, etc.) My solution was to create a ZClass called DImage. In addition to having some useful properties like a caption, creator, and date, DImage can contain any number of images or files (the postscript). I am still in the process of writing methods (i.e., my product is not ready for public distribution) to render different versions but at least all of the data is encapsulated in a single object. Forcing a commit fixed my problem. So I wouldn't say its nonsense. My guess is that, yes all properties of a ZClass when changed are readily available within that thread. But, the manage_clone method I was using is pulling and putting objects straight off of the ZODB and not from my transaction space. Please correct me if I am wrong. Hi, Check out the ZCatalog Tutorial if you haven't already (http://www.zope.org/Documentation/How-To/ZCatalogTutorial) One way to get started with searching a ZCatalog is to create a "Z Search Interface". This will give you a search form and a report. The report shows you how you can search. Some basic syntax you can use: <dtml-in "Catalog({artistname: 'Buffett'})"> ...stuff to display the results... <p><a href="<dtml-var "getpath(data_record_id_)">"><dtml-var title></a></p> </dtml-in> You use the getpath function to get the URL of the cataloged object. Types for DA

I have been working on improving ZPostgreSQLDA to recognize more types, and now I have a problem with missing types. The biggest need is for Time (I've found only DateTime, which i can't use) Or is there a hidden Time type somewhere ? If not, could I use mxDateTime, which has all the needed types and all possible import/export formats ? I'm not sure it would play nicely with Zope. So what would be easier - 1. reimplement Zope's DateTime using mxDateTime as base 2. modify Zopes DateTime (to know it is sometimes just plain date and not 12 at noon that day) and add Time to it 3. just use mxDateTime as a separate type, having just the needed formats etc. ? I would also need to implement some other types that have no corresponding python/zope types, like MONEY and NUMERIC. What would that involve and how hard would the integration with zope (especially DocumentTemplate) be ? Does OracleDA implement its own types for NUMERIC etc., or does it just loose precision and use floats/ints ? ------------------ Hannu
