For Hire Zope Help Needed...

If you know of anyone interested, please let me know: --- While Squishdot and Zope are 90% ideal for a project I'm developing, the remaining 10% of the functionality will need to be added, and they aren't straight-forward mods (at least to me), so I'm interested in collaborating with someone, for hire, who could implement the modifications and enhancements I need. Essentially, these enhancements are: * A separate, threaded message board for general discussion (we have a design and UI in mind already) that shares messages/threads with the messages posted under articles. * An integrated polling/survey tool. * An integrated random text displayer. * Possibly integration of the Squishdot database into MySQL. * various tweaks here and there. I estimate the duration of the development work to be 1-2 months, with some additional support and tweaks needed later. resultant modifications and enhancements will be openly available under the GPL, since I believe these can greatly enhance the Sqishdot product. Searching the Mailing Lists

I've got quite a few basic questions that I need answers to, but posting them to the mailing list doesn't seem to be currently giving me the best results. Is there a place where I can search the list archives? I could have sworn there was one on the old Zope site; correct me if I'm wrong. Here are some of the things I'm looking for: - Zope (X)emacs how-to - Accessing Zope through an FTP client - information on the Portal Toolkit - Using Style Sheets as Zope objects If anyone can point me to some info I'd greatly appreciate it. There is a fixed version in the soon-to-be-released 2.1.0 b1 release, but if you want to try it out and let me know how it works for you I'll email it to you privately (its ~66k). The _verifyObjectPaste code does its own validation for a reason - to paste or rename an object, you *must have the permission to add that particular kind of object*. There is a bug report in the Collector with regard to proxy roles not always percolating down the call stack the way they should - I suspect that's the reason that your proxy approach didn't work (we'll be looking into that). Note that you should be able to go to the "Security" tab of a Folder and give "Anonymous" the "Add xxx permission" for those types of objects that they will need to be able to copy... In short, I suspect that this logic is what's messing things up, and I'm not certain why it's there in the first place. Most other stuff lets some other lower-level Zope stuff deals with permissions automagically. It doesn't make obvious sense that permission logic should have to be re-coded here. At this point I've worked around the problem, but I'll probably re-visit it later. Thanks again for your time!!

Passing namespace in DTML Method calles...

Here we go again. I would like to compress the following DTML code (example 1): <dtml-call "REQUEST.set('var-name','var-value')"> <dtml-var name="aquiered_dtml_method"> # aquiered_dtml_method takes 'var-name' as an argument to (example 2): <dtml-var expr="aquiered_dtml_method(var-name='var-value')"> To pass REQUEST variable I only have to include the REQUEST object (example 3): <dtml-var expr="aquiered_dtml_method(var-name='var-value',REQUEST=REQUEST)"> But how can I pass the rest of the namespace (acquisition and all) so that example 2 works exactly as example 1. What you say is very true. Zope's absence of object referencing is a big omission and one that makes its OO claim somewhat tenuous (along with independent object identity but thats another issue). As you say doing referencing well is quite important. I think the current tendency to use a central ZCatalog is a good idea. Many to many references can be made by each object have a search criteria rather than a list. Then again this means the onus of inclusion is then on the referred to object rather than the referrer, however the deletion of either is ok as long as they unregister themselves from the catalog. The referred object will have to maintain a property/state that means it is included by the search.

Java Port

Did anyone try to port Zope to Java (using JPython)? But why do I think it's nice to have a Java-Zope? - using Java classes with Zope - running servlets and/or running Zope as servlet - performance could benefit from JIT compilers or compile Zope as native binary (gcj) - portability? not sure if Java is more portable than Python ;) Smoerk
