problem with ads.py

hi, i'm currently reading through the "A Technical Introduction to Object Publishing with Zope". included in this interesting read is an example ads.py. when i execute ads.py via the shell i get no complaints however when i try to add ads.py as an external method in zope with the following paramaters Id: adflipper Title: Function name: Python module file: ads and click on the add button i get this error message: "The specified object, was not found in module, ads." ok, so i tried calling some of the functions inside ads.py by entering them in Function name: but i basically got the same complaint. this is the first time i fooled with external methods so i'm probably making some very basic mistake but unfortunately i can't seem to figure out what it is. i put ads.py into the extensions folder. thank you to all who have provided answers to my questions in the past! regards, mark --------------------------------------------------------------------------- webman | _ beehive GmbH | ASCII ribbon campaign ( ) berlin, Germany | - against HTML email X http://www.beehive.de | & vcards / \

The reason I reported this as a ZServer bug is because when using ZopeHTTPServer everything works fine and the Www-Authenticate header is set correctly. If no mod-dates are available, one tends to either unnecessarily re-read old documents and assume that what is new stuff has already been read. Also, by providing a mod-date for documents, it can become very easy to create a 'databased' What's New search where one can fill in the the What's New in the Last n Days, etc. not to mention sortin by mod-date... I've been examining Zope with quite a bit of interest for a while now, and I have a question about the basic architecture: The object hierarchy seems to be 'exact', that is, strictly exclusive. No object can appear in more than one branch of the tree. However, In many cases, user oriented design requires several alternative navigation hierarchies, which would require objects to inherit from more than one branch. An example would be an event calendar, where events can be organized chronologicaly ( Years>Months>Days) but also according to an event category heirarchy (All events>entertainment>music>concerts). These heirarchies only intersect at the leaf node of an individual event. Most product catalogs can be profitably organized using multiple heirarchies as well. So how would you do this in Zope? you could of course represent the alternative heirarchies by branching off the bottom of the primary, or as folder properties, but that doesn't seem as elegant or maintainable. perhaps the answer is some sort of 'pseudo heirarchy' object that could be placed at or near the top of the object tree.
