Zope Comparison

Hi, It can't be that you all are novices like me. Come on, there must be experts on this thread, who have already previous experience with other web-applications. Why don't you tell why you use Zope above the others? Has nobody used another Zope-alike before getting in to Zope? Please, help me. Only one of you responded to my question. I know it isn't a problem-solving question. But it can help me to convince other people of Zope. Thanks in advance, Tom.

publishing question

Zope is Dope. It's like a breath of fresh air. Just thought I would throw that out there... I'm reading in the Zope Manager's Guide about Netscape publishing. I have found that I can publish a document once with Netscape Composer, but once it already exists on Zope, I get an error when I publish it again: Error uploading files The server responded: Sorry, an internal error occurred in this resource. Traceback (innermost last): File /usr/share/Zope-1.10.2-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 877, in publish_module File /usr/share/Zope-1.10.2-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 584, in publish (Info: /alex/foo.html) File /usr/share/Zope-1.10.2-src/lib/python/ZPublisher/Publish.py, line 277, in badRequestError InternalError: (see above) Am I doing something wrong? Using pgci Zope 1.10.2, Python 1.5.2 and Netscape 4.5 Also, am I correct that the following are the only possible methods for manually publishing zope content (as opposed to being generated by a query or method)? 1) editing in-browser text areas 2) Netscape publishing 3) WebDAV (upcoming in Zope 1.12 and beyond) 4) FTP* *is FTP available in pcgi zope? I see it's in the Permissions page, but don't know how to use it. Any pointers to how FTP integrates with Zope objects? Zope on FreeBSD with Python 1.5.2

OK Zope is up and running, (see previous post). I now have a little naggging problem with some Products I think is related to Python 1.5.2. Three items, Confera, IMAPadapter, NotMail all are broken with a traceback during import claiming "non-default argument follows default argument" Is this a known problem? Everything else in Zope works properly as do other products. Do I need to send specific tracebacks?, start digging?, or has anyone else seen this. I haven't looked through the code yet as I just noticed it, hoping someone has the answer! DAve.

Zope on FreeBSD

Well, we decided to move into FreeBSD from Slackware recently and am quite happy with it. I read evyones suggestions on building Zope on FreeBSD and then dived in. Happily I made it work, here's the lowdown for those interested. I tried several things, some worked some didn't. This worked perfectly for me twice. FreeBSD v 3.0 release 0, Walnut Creek dist. Zope 1.10.2 source ZServer 1.0a2 Python 1.5.2 release source. This was into a standard dist install of FreeBSD with no X, a bare server type install. The only extras I installed were Bind, Sendmail, and Expect. *****begin untar the python dist cd into Python-1.5.2/Modules copy Setup.in to Setup edit Setup uncommenting the line #*shared* cd up to the top of the Python distribution directory run ./configure --with-thread ignore errors untar the Zope dist into /usr/local edit do.py change the line do('make') to read do('make -k') run python wo_pcgi.py Zope should now start normally with the included start file. *******end (No, I didn't try w_pcgi.py, don't have Apache..) I use ZServer and it worked as advertised with the normal "ZOPE_HOME" change to the start.py script. Cool....... DAve.

Hello All, I am having some problem getting Zope to run with Apache 1.3.6 under FreeBSD-2.2-STABLE. I have compiled Apachge with the rewrite module and added the following lines to my httpd.conf file: # Zope configuration maps /Zope/ to the Zope.cgi CGI script RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization} ^(.*) RewriteRule ^/Zope/(.*) /usr/local/Zope/Zope.cgi/$1 [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] (above is all one line) <Location /cgi-bin/Zope/> AuthType Basic AuthName Zope-realm AuthUserFile /usr/local/Zope/ru_users require valid-user </Location> I can get Zope to work with the python web server, I just cannot get things to work with the .cgi. I am having a strange error pop up, and would appreciate any help. I am calling this document with the result of a form.                      And this is the error I am getting. Sounds like the problem is that ZServer doesn't save the cookies and send them back when making FTP requests. This has been planned for a while, but I just haven't gotten around to it, partially because I didn't see any good reason for it. Now I have a good reason ;-) Thanks. -Amos

zinit

Greetings, For those of you who have checked out ZServer, you might find zinit handy. It is a python script which forks a parent process to manage a child ZServer process. If the ZServer dies, the parent will restart a new one. This is handy for developers who are constantly restarting the server, and will make you sleep a little easier knowing that if your server dies in the middle of the night, you don't have to get up and run one command (not that you should be loosing any sleep over beta software in the first place :) It's in the public CVS under Publisher/ZServer. The file is zinit.py and it is standalone. -Michel
