Given the following tree tag:   <A HREF="Code/">  </A>   How can one: 1) avoid the + showing up for folders which contain only hidden folders? 2) have the sort do a case-insensitive sort (one of my original questions still lives: 3) keep the tree always showing the entire hierarchy ) Thanks. --david

Reverse Acquisition and getPath from object

Hi, I'm trying to figure out how to do reverse acquisition (in other words to find the first occurrence of a certain object below a particular object. And then how to get that (or any objects) path/URL. Both DTML or Python solutions would do. building Zope on AIX

Does anyone have any experience attempting this? I'm not asking for support for Zope on AIX, just for support for the build system. ;-) Building from the source distribution, having built my own Python 1.5.1 separately, mis-sets the "srcdir" variable to ".", from the perspective of a linking script found in $PYTHONHOME/lib/python-1.5/config. This makes the .o files not get linked into shared libraries. Alas, hard-coding paths didn't get me a success. So I tried the binary porting kit, and it was worse. It made its own python, then installed it as local/bin/python-1.5 and later tried to invoke it as local/bin/python. I never did get it to work, as there were numerous problems at the "can't build Makefile" level, and several core dumps from /bin/sh(!). One problem that there's little excuse for, when building from your standard source distro: Compiling extensions in lib/python make -f Makefile.pre.in boot PYTHON=/home/kwr/bin/python [...snip...] gcc -g -O2 -I/home/kwr/include/python1.5 -I/home/kwr/include/python1.5 -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I../Components/ExtensionClass -c ./../Components/ExtensionClass/ExtensionClass.c ./ld_so_aix gcc ExtensionClass.o -o ExtensionClass.so make: ./ld_so_aix: Command not found make: *** [ExtensionClass.so] Error 127 make clean rm -f *.o *~ (1) Hey! You failed to make the shared object! Stop! (2) Hey!!! You failed!!! Don't clean up the evidence!!! (3) ld_so_aix is in the $PYTHON_HOME/lib/python1.5/config directory; the "." in "./ld_so_aix" comes from $(srcdir). Dunno who's wrong here. Keith (at least Python seemed to build OK)

Kudos to Zope

I just want to say what a great product Zope is and offer congratulations to all who have helped out in it's development and to the people at Digital Creations for making it freely available. I needed to have a useable first version of a Web application completed in a very short amount of time and could not have achieved it without Zope. Despite never having written a line of HTML or Python code prior to starting the project, I was able to deliver a Web data-entry/capture application packaged as a Zope Product in less than a week (approx. 60 hrs - which is an average working week in this industry isn't' it :-). The app has 10 major classes, a couple of support classes/functions and 30 screens in addition to the standard Zope management screens. I think having an extensive OO/C++ background helped me to get up to speed, but the excellent framework provided by Zope coupled with the productivity of Python and DTML, made it possible. In fact an experienced Zope programmer could have done the job in 2/3 to 1/2 the time as I spent a lot of time wrestling with HTML/DTML code to get the layout right. Not only is the Zope/Python environment productive but it is also FUN ! All in all a great product, well done. Robert Leftwich Digital Innovations

It is indeed possible to add a custom tag from a product. I used this technique in my Counter product. I copied the technique from the Calender product (I don't remember off hand who created that), which implements a seriously powerful tag. It (the Calendar product) is available from the Zope contributions download page, and demonstrates how to construct a tag which can contain DTML to be rendered per iteration, as well as how to create variables to be made available to the inner DTML, much like the 'in' tag. Sort variable within the 'IN' tag

Meaningful Error Messages from External Methods?

I've found that debugging external methods in Zope is rather annoying since the only info Zope gives me is ---  --- which looks like it didn't understand the error itself, either. Does anyone have any techniques to help with external method debugging? thanks -- -chad

Restricting access via IP address?

I'm moving up the learning curve with Zope and have skimmed the archives of this list and other documentation so forgive me if the answer to this question is blindingly obvious (because I've got a feeling I'm missing something fundamental here) but .... .... how do I limit visibility of Zope-served pages by IP address? I guess using an if tag and REMOTE_ADDR is one of of doing it but it seems sort of kludgey when Zope seems to have most of the intranet-type bases covered. Hi Gregor, I'm about to do the exactly same thing. Maybe we can work together on this one? I have tried using DTML to solve this but i'm slowly getting to the conclusion that its too much a hussle to get it working. Mayby subclassing the tree-tag removing the stuff that we don't need could be a way to try. but I'm not sure if it's possible to add custom tag from a product? If you have any bright ideas I'm all ears.
