Is DocBook still being considered?

The important ones that I see are: * One source for Web, paper, PDF, and future formats. * Does not become obsolete like Word processor formats. (How many of us have documents that we can't or are too much trouble to read because they were written on an Apple II or a Commodore 64 in some program that you will never find now.) I guess HTML and structured text have this advantage, too. * Searching can be very powerful because the markup includes meaning rather that formatting instructions. So it would be possible to look for the definition of "external method" rather than all mentions of it. * DocBook is being rewritten in XML (a subset of SGML) so its future looks bright! Some good sources of information that I have found are: http://nwalsh.com/docbook/ - he is writing a book for O'Reilley to be published in the spring and also provided as open source http://nis-www.lanl.gov/~rosalia/mydocs/docbook-intro/docbook-intro.html - gives an introduction to what docbook is and how to use it. Pretty good, even though there are pieces that haven't been written yet. Explains what SGML, XML, DTD, docbook, Stylesheets, etc are and their relationships. http://www.oasis-open.org/docbook/ - the docbook home page I think the sooner a good standard is chosen the better. Get the learning out of the way and start producing useful, long-lasting docs. If some people don't want to use docbook maybe some of use would be willing to format other people's text with docbook tags. Phil A

zope under nt w/ ie5 as client

Had zope working GREAT under nt with ie4 as browser. Did the upgrade to ie5 and now cannot access the management screens. The following error is displayed. Zope still works for ie4 from other machines. Any Ideas? Karl Putland HTTP Error 401 401.5 Unauthorized: Authorization failed by ISAPI/CGI app This error indicates that the address on the Web server you attemped to use has an ISAPI or CGI program installed that verifies user credentials before proceeding. The authentication used to connect to the server was denied access by this program. Please make a note of the entire address you were trying to access and then contact the Web server's administrator to verify that you have permission to access the requested resource.

The name "Brian Lloyd" doesn't sound like a girl name, so I won't kiss you :-) And I don't even remember of the internet site that allow one to send so-called "virtual beer" to a fellow. By the way, IE 3.x fails to expire Cookies. I think I found the trick. the max_age parameter seems to confuse IE 3.x. Included are patches for lib/python/ZPublisher/Response.py and lib/python/ZPublisher/HTTPResponse.py Any comment are welcome. If there are no problems, I will submit this to the Collector. The big 3, and Zope initiatives for Linux Expo

Hi all, This fits right in with Karl's post about the "big 3" components of an effective portal site... :) As many of you may know, we at DC are in the middle of a push to position Zope as powerful and flexible portal-building software. We are making progress on a number of fronts toward this goal, and we want to make sure that what we are doing has some visibility in the Zope community. We will be exhibiting at the upcoming Linux Expo the week of May 18 in Raleigh, NC - our goal for the Expo is to demonstrate the Zope message of "unleashing potential", which means: o Open Source o Community Portal o Through the Web o Safe Delegation of Control We plan to demonstrate this by reinventing the zope.org site, using it as a demonstration and case-study of a portal site that incorporates: o Powerful information browsing and searching o News items o Issue tracking o Community membership o Community projects o Personal areas that community members can maintain themselves o Community involvement in the form of polls and discussions We will be building this site as a real-world example that will, in fact, replace the current zope.org site by or shortly after the show. Though it will certainly continue to evolve over time, we plan to get as much of the functionality above as possible into the new site by the Expo. The end result will, we hope, be a site that allows much better organization, greater community involvement, and better visibility of projects and community resources. A limit to it's length is still needed. sql INSERT during query

I am trying to add a new record to a table based on the query to another table. Everytime I try this I get a "400 Bad Request" error with no debug info. Is there any reason why I can't do what I require? I am using a URL like "Download/qryGetUnregUser/MagicNumber/14777794/completeReg" where qryGetUnregUser is select * from unregUsers WHERE MagicNumber =  and completeReg is  <h2></h2>  <p> Thank you  for taking the time to register. You have been succesfully registered. You may now enter restricted parts of this site by entering your username <i></i> and password.</p>  and qryAddRegUser is INSERT INTO users VALUES ( , , , , , , , 'Customer', '' ) I have tried making completeReg have proxy Manager permission. What am I doing wrong?

Phil, I asked this same question awhile back. The answer is to use an External Method. The Python equivalent is the "range" operator, but "range" is not included in Zope due to possible problems with runaway memory usage if a really big number was used. [In the example below you'll see that a max limit is set. If it were a standard feature, where would one set the upper limit?] Copy this code to a file (say "looprange.py") and put it in ZOPE_HOME/Extensions (you may need to create the directory). # simple extension class to implement a counting loop LoopRangeError = 'LoopRangeError' # Name an exception class. loop_range_limit = 100 # Maximum allowable loop index. def looprange(max): if max <= loop_range_limit: return range(max) else: raise LoopRangeError, max Select External Method from the Add list and add this method (id="looprange", method="looprange", file="looprange.py"). Now you can use it in your DTML like this:  ... do some stuff for each loop iteration ...
