Wierd startup problem

I have Zope 1.10.2 and ZAP. Occasionally, when I restart my machine, ZAP starts, but when connected to, reports that "A Serious Application Error has occurred". If I then stop the ZAP server, start the ZopeHTTPServer, stop the ZHTTPS and restart the ZAP server, it works normally. Does anyone know why it would do this, or what I can do to correct it? I could put in the startup script a kludge to perform the start/stop/start but I would rather figure out what the problem is and correct it. Thank you. Howard C. It's actually a 'hook' for the future so that the navbar can be dynamic, but it was never improved upon. Look in the dictionary under 'cruft'. -Michel

If you turn off cookie authentication, do things work as expected? If so, be aware that using cookies for authentication is somewhat flaky - if you are ever authenticated through basic auth, that will take precedence over cookies from that point on in your browser session. The unfortunate fact is that the two methods just dont work terribly well together - you really want to make sure that users who use cookie authentication will _only_ use cookie authentication, not try to switch back and forth. One method I found useful when dealing w/cookie authentication was to use two different browsers - for example I would use IE strictly for using management screens and NS for looking at end-user (cookie- authenticated) urls... Piotr, I posed a similar question recently and have since undertaken to writing two new objects. 'Search Folder', and 'Search DTML Document'. To summarize, you can ask the 'Search Folder' object to search itself and all searchable objects within it, with optional recursion. The 'Search DTML Document' object can be searched directly or as a result of a request from the 'Search Folder'. I envinsion other objects being made searchable as well, although I don't have any need for them right now. I don't have any functional code yet, but will certainly post a Beta-Product as its available. Anyone have any suggestions/comments on where I'm going with this? -Tim ------------------- Is it possible to search & replace across multiple files in multiple subdirectories? Because ZOPE is storing files in a database I not able to do this using tools such as Windows Search&Replace utility. TIA Piotr

Inheritance and __init__

Hi! I'm kind of stuck: I'm trying to write a product that is a subclass of some other class that I wrote for something else. I'm having a problem with calling the superclass's __init__ method from within the subclass's __init__ method. It works within Python but not Zope. ? Remote Administration under NT

Hi guys I'm a real newbie here; downloaded Zope Friday night, been playing and reading and enjoying the web site. Much food for thought. I have the Manager module working fine on the localhost under NTS using Service Pack4 with no problems whatever, having disabled both Secure and Basic authentication as instructed. However the same Network Domain Administrator cannot run the Manager module remotely. I've puzzled over this, checked permissions and generally tinkered with a few things and can't get my head around this one. It's not a critical failure right now, since I can pull the server screen up in an X-Win session and handle management functions as a localhost login, but it would be nice to figure this one out. For background: all workstations [bar one] are NTW/SP3 or SP4. Only protocol is TCP/IP and there are both PDC and BDC machines: network is running DNS/DHCP/WINS. DC Servers are not part of the DHCP scope. Exception machine is running NT W2K beta. I've tried a quick search throught the FAQ's and mailing but can't find anything specific to this problem. Zope site's sidebar

Dear Zopesers, I have been directing the zope.org site to learn more about the cool things that Zope can do. I have always learned best by example, and I am so glad that they have that view DTML link at the bottom. I have run across two areas that I am not sure how things are done. One is the sidebar on the zope site, it is the menu and News column that runs down the left hand side. What is a sidebar_contents, is it a object type, a folder, or something else? Also what is a sequence-item, is it value stored in a sidebar_contents? The other part of the sidebar that I had a question about was the News.Headlines function, can someone give me an idea of how it works?
