I want to access AUTHENTICATED_USER on all pages.

Once a user has logged in with basic authentication I would like the var AUTHENTICATED_USER to be not Anonymous on all subsequent pages, even ones that are publicly viewable. Is this possible? or it a browser thing? Would this work if I was using cookie authentication?

pcgi on Solaris 2.6

Howdy - I'm trying to move a pcgi application from Linux to Solaris. The app works fine under pcgi on Linux, and also works fine using ZopeHTTPServer on either Linux or Solaris. However, when I try to start it under pcgi on Solaris, I get the following relevant bits from the html source: (102) failure during connect  Any ideas, everyone? TIA Bill Scherer

Hi all, The Zope website has an 'advert' for BeeHive GmBH and it mentions the dynamic gif creation product. However when you go to the site there seems to be no way to actually download it. Am I missing something? Phil phil(a)philh.org

No -- I try running the python binary from the bin directory and I get this error. It's not a problem with the shell script. I am using Apache/Zope/NT and I can't login to the management screens. Zope works fine (http://128.187.42.171/cgi-bin/ZAEM.exe/) but when I type my username and password it doesn't let me in. I've checked the user/pw in the access file an it is correct. I've tried adding this lines to the httpd.conf file: # Zope configuration maps /Zope/ to the Zope.cgi CGI script RewriteEngine on RewriteCond %{HTTP:Authorization} ^(.*) RewriteRule ^/Zope/(.*) "d:/apache/cgi-bin/ZAEM.exe/"$1 [e=HTTP_CGI_AUTHORIZATION:%1,t=application/x-httpd-cgi,l] as recommended in the WEBSERVER.txt file but it hangs Apache and I can only get it back taking them off. Please, I'll appreciate any comments/suggestions/ideas/whatever you want. -aem

Zope under Linux -- duh?

Have you guys ran Zope 1.11 under Linux 2.0.x with Python 1.5.2? I can't get the thing to work. Problem 1: If I try running the version of Python that comes with the Zope sources, I get "bash: ./python: No such file or directory". None of our resident Linux experts could explain this, as the file was seemingly not corrupted. Naturally the install script does not work because of this, and neither does Zope. Problem 2: Python 1.5.2 doesn't compile out of the box with glibc5, as the time module is incompatible with that version. You gotta get a patched version from the CVS repository. Problem 3: Python 1.5.2 doesn't come with a compatible thread module, or so it seems -- at least Python's "make test" reports an incompatibility, and Zope can't import it. I might have to upgrade to glibc6 to get Python to work, I guess. So, what's the deal here? Surely a _lot_ of people are running Zope on Linux. Basically this means Zope will be multi-threaded. Also you will have more options for storing your Zope data, such as storing it in a RDMS. The upshot of these changes will be improved performance and improved scalability. You may even see exotic things like multiple Zope processes sharing one object database for load balancing or failover. But I'm not making any promises along these lines ;-) So in sum, Zope 2 means a more robust back end, not more user-visible bells and whistles. Of course, you should remember that the impending Zope 2 release will be an alpha source release. So don't switch immediately if you value stability. -Amos
