Sorry, I was out at WWW8 and asked Amos to do this for me. I should have announced to everybody what's going on (especially to Mark). Fortunately Amos did a really good job. Basically, there is a lot of really interesting stuff going on out in the Zope community. I wanted to carve out a space on the home page to "spotlight" these exciting developments. Right now we are planning to rotate every two weeks or so. Let us know if you are interested in being spotlighted! Things went really well for the two talks in Toronto. More in a moment... --Paul

Sorry, I still don't get it... I'm trying here several things, but it look like I'm running in circles... Can someone provide me a simple example? The property which needs to be incremented is hitCount. And how to call the increment method from an instance...? Thanks. ZClass hitCounter

Ok, I've managed to get the increment of the counter from an instance :    Now, I want to have a method 'inc' in the product HitCounter which increments the hitCount... how to get this done? I can't get it to work.... I don't even know how to call this method, because : 1. nothing happes, or 2. I can system is unavailable... with 1.     2.     And what do I've to place in the DTML method 'increment'.... Please, can somebody help me? Tom.

Does Zope use dynamic scoping?

I'm new to this, but I've got quite far and now I'm stuck - help! This is with Zope-1.11.0pr1 under Linux. As an exercise, I'm trying to write a Slashdot-esque threaded comment system using PostgreSQL and ZPyGreSQL, and I wonder if my assumptions about scoping are biting me. Comments have an Object Identifier, "oid". I have an SQL method "allcomments" that looks up all comments, and defines "oid" among other variables (eg "subject"). "responses" looks up all the comments that are responses to "oid". allcomments looks like this: select *, oid from comments and repliesto like this: select *,oid from comments    This code works fine:  <ul>  <li>  </ul>  So why is it that this code works fine: <ul> <li>Before  <li> <ul> <li>Before:    <li>  <li>After:  </ul>  <li>After </ul> and does what you expect (in particular, the subject doesn't change across the inner allcomments), but if I replace the inner "allcomments" with "repliesto", I get this: Zope Error Zope has encountered an error while publishing this resource. Error Type: Bad Request Error Value: ['oid'] This is frustrating my attempts to use recursion to build threading trees, it's late and I've written too many test scripts. commercial zope hosting

hi there, has anyone used either of the two web hosting providers listed on the zope site, CodeIt and NexusWeb? if so, how was the service and reliability? i'm looking for affordable (<$25), basic hosting that includes zope. anyone know of other providers not listed? CodeIt wants $35-50/month which seems kind of steep. NexusWeb just told me that they would install zope in your directory on their basic business account ($20), without support. that's fine and the price is right, but i'd feel better if they came with some positive recommendations... on an unrelated note, does it seem that things are really starting to take off for zope? i just came on board last month, but it seems like there's been an increase in activity even in that time period. thanks, -scott ----- Scott Lewis Baltic Avenue Productions csl(a)balticave.com

Hi, Scott I've been a CodeIt customer for the past couple of months and have been happy with their service. The good thing about CodeIt is that these guys grok Zope. They will actually manage the Zope software for you. (The downside to this is that you can run experimental versions of Zope, but you shouldn't be doing that anyway if you want a reliable site :) That's the same story with any managed service.) I'm not sure if anyone is using Nexusweb for Zope. Nexusweb doesn't run Apache (I don't remember the name of the server off the top of my head.) So, there may be some hacking involved in getting Zope running there. That's one other plus to CodeIt's setup. Since they are offering *Zope Hosting* in particular, they may be able to offer ZServer in the future. So, you'll be able to FTP into your ZODB, and you remove all CGI overhead. As far as things taking off for Zope in the past month, I think that's largely because the DC guys have been *really* busy gearing up for Linux Expo. There's a lot going on. Hey all - Anybody use UserDb under Zope 1.11.0pr1? I'm getting an error about an undefined Key PARENT_URL. A quick grep through Zope sources for 1.10.2 and 1.11.0pr1 indicates that it went away. Anybody patched it up? Are there other problems lurking? Ross P.S. Yes, the implication that I got access to my PostgreSQL database working from the Zope/Win32 install is accurate: I had forgotten about the ZODBCDA! So, a quick install of postODBC and ZODBCA on the NT web server, and voila! data comes pouring out. Aren't all these OpenSource pieces wonderful? -- Ross J. zope development projects

hi folks, i started using zope about a month ago and now i'm hooked. i'm looking for a way to get involved in the zope community. i have several ideas for zope products and wondered if anyone else is working on something similar. this led me to take a step back and wish for a central location that would provide information about open zope development projects- open in the sense of projects coordinating the work of geographically disperse people and open to participation of others. is there already such a beast? if not, i'll start working on one. i envision a site that would have contact info, relatively recent status info, links to project websites, and perhaps discussion/recruiting for proposed projects. i welcome any input, -scott ----- Scott Lewis Baltic Avenue Productions csl(a)balticave.com

Properties in ZClasses???

I tried the example from Amos to generate a zclass and instances from it. I can generate the instance, but in can't get a handle to the properties. There is no Properties tab in the manage_workspace screen. I have seen the comment in the automatically generated CDClass_add DTML method. There is something like  Is Basic the same as cd_info? Where is the 'common' link? Surprisingly it functions for all other people on the list. Where should I look for errors? Thanks in advance __Janko
