Nearly everyone here spends a lot of time in the Python debugger instead of sitting in Zope, I think. I agree that debugging DTML is maddingly hard. In fact, I think about this probably fifty times a day. I sure hope, after Zope2 comes out, we step back and think HARD about things like usability. I presume by the leading part of the question that you would feel more comfortable doing your processing in Python than all-DTML. Heh heh, if I had a dime for the number of alpha volunteers for the portal toolkit :^) In the end, the presence of Z Classes, Z Class-based portal toolkit components, and a really nice search system out to make the portal toolkit something that more people will look at. We still have our work cut out for us, but we are awfully excited about it. Just an update on status. We're a bit behind -- our UML modelling tool apparently has a number of bugs that causes us to consistently get ureadable models. The vendor is mostly responsive but it still has caused things to grind to a halt here for the last week. Sigh. Thus, it's iffy whether zope.org will get its June reinvention, which is the predecessor step to checking everything into CVS. Does this damn thing even work. I am not able to get past the zope.cgi/manage. It fals authentication. I have posted numerous times and no one seems to know anything about installing Zope, because I have had no replys. See a previous post <RewriteRule for Zope.cgi>. I am using Apache-1.3.3 will someone pleas tell me if it is incompatible or not???????? No, but it's not the latest version. 1.10.2 is the latest stable version, 1.9 has some know bugs in it (none, however, that would effect it working with Apache, we used 1.9 and Apache 1.3b on our website for a year straight). I would suggest downloading Zap. http://www.zope.org/Download/Releases/Zap-1.1.0 Zap is a precompiled and preconfigured Apache that can be dropped onto Zope 1.10.2. It is known to work, the whole point of Zap is a proof of concept. Zope *does* work with Apache, and *has* worked with Apache since pre 1.3. it is however, due to some legacy cruft left in Apache that the maintainers vow is necesary, a bit tricky (Apache won't pass the HTTP_AUTHORIZATION header to CGI scripts) so you need a RewriteRule. Since the RewriteEngine has changed three times in as many Apache versions, slightly different rules are needed for different versions of Apache. This is probably what is hanging you up. AUTHENTICATED_USER problem

Dear all, I wonder if anyone can help me, i have got some code that needs to check if a user has a certain role. I have used the code:    to check if the user is in the GOD role i have created. When you log in to the site as GOD, the page works fine. However, if you log in as any other user that doesn't have the GOD role, the login dialog box appears a number of times asking for authorisation. The dialog box eventually stops appearing and the page appears as it should. Any ideas on the re-occurence of this dialog box?? Problems with IE 4.0 and 5.0

Hi ! I experienced a few problems with file-uploads with the Internet Exlporer. I created a formular that does a file upload to zope using <form action="uploadFile" ENCTYPE="multipart/form-data"> <input type=file ...> in python i use the file.read() function. everything works fine with Netscape Communicator but when i do the same thing under IE i get a the following error: string type has no attribute read() Any suggestions?? regards, Alex
