New Squishdot maintenance release : 0.1.3

Hi ya all, I issued a maintenance release (ver 0.1.3) for Squishdot to fix a nagging bug requiring Anonymous users to authenticate whenever the fancy demo mode was used. I thought it had something to do with shared libraries, but that was as far as I got (I was struggling with a corrupted Database at the time). I'd really like to try out ZServer on SunOS 5.6 and SunOS 5.7 (which is where I'll be hosting it) though, so if anyone has *any* clue....cheers. tone,

ANNOUNCE: Zope 1.10.3 beta 1 released

Hi all, Digital Creations is pleased to announce the availability of Zope 1.10.3b1. http://www.zope.org/Download/Releases/Zope-1.10.3b1/ This release fixes a number of bugs including a significant memory leak that was introduced in 1.10.0 (this is the main reason for this release). It also includes a few new DTML tag features. Knowing enough to get into trouble

I've learned a bunch about Zope after scanning all the messages that come in -- this list is ripe with smart people! Thank you all for sharing what you know. That said, it's still populated with one dumbo who isn't too good at applying the bones tossed my way. I still have a little problem that I'd like to get to the bottom of. I've got a mildly modified tree control that I stole from Zbook that does everything a tree should do. I've also got at least one folder I'd like to hide from the tree. Right now I'm just hiding a folder programatically by starting its title with 'zzz'.  ... show the tree So far, so good. It doesn't show up on the tree display. But I'm one of those anal retentives that likes to keep things tidy. I'd like to create a sub directory to hold my images, etc., and if I nest the folders, the little +/- sign shows up. If the folder title starts with 'zzz', it even hides the folder but shows a heirarchy of +/- gizmos. It was suggested that I add 'skip_unauthorized=1' to my tree but I couldn't get that to work. I went to my resources folder, went to security and unchecked "Acquire permission settings?". That didn't work for me as the unauthenticate user was prompted with an auth box. I'd like to be able to show/hide other items, too. So if somebody can cattle prod me into getting the latter to work, I'd be grateful. Heck, I'll even write the experience up for ZDP if they'll accept my words and spaces! Cheers, Jules

Jim introduced a new experimental DTML syntax this week: http://www.zope.org/pipermail/zope-checkins/1999-June/000667.html (BTW, for those of you who don't know, the zope-checkins mail list provides a checkin by checkin view of the evolution of Zope) This syntax is handy for emacs HTML mode, which never gets the SSI syntax right. I'm going to start playing with it. Hmm.. I seem to remember Harvest being an old cache project that the Squid folks picked up on. HTTP Caching and Cataloging the same problem? Perhaps I am thinking of something different, or perhaps the harvest project had more goals than just caching. One problem with other cataloging/indexing tools is that they are, at best, designed to index URLs. This is al find and good, but we want to catalog object and their attributes, this is very Zope and Python specific. htDIG for example, will index all the documents on your site, but will it tell you the last document a certain Zope user modifed was? Will it give you a list of the 10 most recent news items (how can it know what are 'news items' without a meta_type?)? Also, with ZClasses, you can create your own objects and therefore they can have their own attributes. Let's say you made a car object, and it had a manufacturer attribute, someone elses cataloging package wouldn't be able to allow you to search for a certain care made by Ford before a certain year, becaause all of thesse attributes are specific to your application. The above crash happens while trying to initialize the MailHost object. The reason is that getattr(self,id) in the call above is actually a DTML object not a Factory object. Somehow a piece of code got whacked in the wrong place. I can now get the site up by removing the MailHost product. However mail is an extermely important part of the site in that no new user can register without it. When a shut it down and add MailHost back in I get the same problem. What I need to do is somehow take out what is posing as the MailHost Product. I have no idea how to do this. Zope to the rest of the world?

Hi All, Just visited Siemens Atea, it's learning centre. Great things there, among some thingies which can be interested for all of you, including DC. 1) They use an application of Horizon to give there lessons etc. Looks nice. Anybody creating something like to work in corporation with Zope? 2) They were making a sort of knowledge base themselfs.... : Coaches could make there own folders and give other people possibility to add articles, or there own folders into the database (relational). Coaches create a hierarchical structure of topics in folders. Per folder a mailing list exist (concerning the topic) Per folder a news group exist Per folder a place exists where people can put video, presentations etc... Doesn't this sound very familiar? If we put Zope, Portal Toolkit and Squishdot together......? I find it interesting, but also pitty that other companies are creating there own tools for this... I think this is because they don't know about Zope.... DC, what about making some more commercial outside America? Europe for instance? Giving lectures, .... I 'm not sure, but I think little people in Europe know of Zope and it's many capabilities. Any ideas or interest in this? Someone? Tom.
