First bad experience with Zserver or ZPublisher !?

Hi All, I tried to use the ZServer with Zope-1.11.0pr1-linux2-x86.tgz on an Pentium processor to evaluate my application in the futur. But, "Zope" seem to have a problem now with gadfly queries ( see belows ). The connexion is not broken and all queries give the same message as below. I tried with Zope 2.00a but the problems are more importants : TinyTable is broken then cannot test my application. ZODB vs SQL, ZTables

hi zopesters: I am designing an application where I'd like use the ZODB as the primary storage and the objects being instances of ZClasses. I'd like to navigate through them using a hierarchal category system. Now, I assume that once I have this I can also provide other ways to traverse the data by building indexes. I realize this isn't quite documented yet and its not totally importart atm because the dataset size is small enough, but I'd like allow this app. to scale. I'm not sure if building indexes is the only way to get another 'view' of the data stored in the ZODB. I could write an exthernal method to query using the 'slow' objectValues() method, I suppose. The questions I have are: 1) Would I be re-inventing the wheel here? Can ZTables instantiate ZClasses? The reason I like the ZClasses is because I'd like to write my business logic in Python. I suppose I could do this with External methods. 2) I realize the indexing system isn't well documented at this point, but if you can figure out the system is it usable? :) I'm just struggling a bit with the concepts of going completely OO instead of storing my data in a SQL database. It's not just you, there is some very deep and powerful things going on underneath the minimalist management interface. At first they may seem a bit quirkly, but once groked the beauty of some of Zope's mechanisms are shocking. It even more shocking that people have been doing things any other way for so long. I can't really give you much insight, but I suggest looking at http://zdp.zope.org, those guys are putting together alot of jumpstarter material. next-sequence and previous-sequence help..

Hi all, I'm trying to get something working that displays a sequence from a database and provide next-sequence and previous-sequence buttons. What is different from the online documentation is that I want both the buttons at the end of a sequence block. eg, I want,  . ..the values from my_sequence...  previous button (batch of five).   next button (batch of five)   whereas the Zope docs imply this format,   previous button (batch of five).  ..the values from my_sequence...  next button (batch of five)   The problem is that the previous-sequence button is not shown (at all). The docs say 'previous-sequence:: the variable is true when the first element is displayed, and when the first element displayed is not the first element in the sequence' This *seems* to imply that previous-sequence can only be used at the beginning of a sequence...(and presumably that next-sequence can only be used at the end of a sequence). arghhghghg Zope and PIL.

I seem to recall /F had a bit of a rant about this one earlier, but I'll just add my two bits worth: Can the ImageFile module _please_ be renamed. Yes, this breaks code, but the alternative is that PIL cannot be used with Zope. PIL predates Zope, so probably has precedence. If someone can suggest an alternative, I'm all ears... It's _really_ annoying to get bitten by this - _most_ stuff sort of works, and it's a complete pain to debug what's going on. New to Zope. Will it ..........

Hi, I am looking for a web interface that will let my current dialin users create (without technical ability) and maintain their own webpages. >From reading some on the Zope website, it becomes evident that Zope will do this. But, I am somewhat confused........ I would really like to see just such a scenario in action. I also understood that it is its own webserver. I do not want to up root my Apache. I like Apache and I have it set to my prefrence and know it well. What I need is something that I can just link to from a "Members Only" webpage and give them a users interface to create, and or edit their webpage. Can I do this with Zope? Pb with zclass and permission.(Zope1_11_0pr1)

Hello I have another problem with Zope1_11_0pr1: I have done the zclass like the CD exemple, just it's called 'Shipment' and has a lot of properties in a sheet called Shipment_Info. My problem is that only the superuser (or a user with manage role) can modify the properties of the newly created class instance. My 'addForm' method call a 'Create' method like: Creating request...<br>  Filling values...<br>    Done... The 'Update' method is a class method like:  My AccessControl python files are now up to date and handle nicely the added user-folders. I have try adding all the possible permissions to the zclass, I all the time end up with the login+password prompt windows.If I cancel it, Zope says:'You are not authorized to access manage_changeProperties.' The security settings for the properties-sheets is set to allow 'Anonymous' and my user Role ('Test'). My zclass methos 'Update' security has the 'Manage properties' permission mapped to 'Manage properties', the same for 'Access contents information','view','View management screens'. My zclass has all the permission on for anonymous and the 'test' user. I have also try to add local roles to my test user: no luck, also adding manage role. Another remark: the instances are created with default permission : just the 'Acquire permission settings?' is checked. If I un-check them and check all the permissions for anonymous or my user, still only the superuser can change the properties. So: am I the only one with this problem? Has someone a solution? NB: also has someone solved the request timeout with IE?? I have also the 'to many open file problem', the python process get one more open file at every site access, until the OS limit: 256 in my case (linus 5.1) Thanks for any help. Gilles

When I browse offline, GIF anim.'s do not do their animations at all, ok, not always the case, sometime they can work very well like some GIF ads. The law is: if it is ad, it works well, if it's something I really care, it doesn't work at all. :( The point here is that the Inet is too expensive and too slow here, I can only go online less than 5 min. a time and sometime cannot download the GIF anim. fully offline, hence the problem. Sadly. BTW, please please do not use RealPlayer. I feel terrible about it. And I have no RealPlayer installed on my box, free though. I do believe simpler in better in most cases. For months, I used lynx to surf the net due to some money reasons and proxy and ... I'm not saying lynx rules. But if a webmaster could considering people in different surfing conditions, it will be great!
