What is the correct syntax for passing form data to child frames of a frameset ? I would like to pass form fields that is submitted to frameset to child frames. Is there any alternative built-in syntax to using an ugly construct like this : =& ------------------ Hannu

Q: how to tell property types from manage's Properties tab?

Hi, quickie Q I'm hoping. How to tell property types from manage's Properties tab? I'm looking at the DTML demos which are very useful and notice that there are a variety of types for properties. Creating a New Object Type - Use ZClass or Python?

Hello, Forgive me if this is a double post - I sent it to zope(a)egroups.com , and it never appeared in the posts as far as I could tell. I'm pretty comfortable with Python, but new to Zope. We're trying to figure out the best way to set up an academic web site that has a list of publications on it. Each publication has several authors, a description, etc. It will also have a pdf and perhaps a postcript copy of the article. We need to be able to search the author list. I'd like to create a PubClass that, when it displays itself looks like: "Some silly paper" IEEE Trans. on Antennas and Propagation Description: Some rubbish about how great the silly paper is. Authors: Eric Jones, Larry Carin, William Joines PDF: link_to_pdf_file_object (size) PS: link_to_ps_file_object (size) I'd like the Add form to have places for adding all the basic properties. The paper title, journal name, and description are pretty straight forward I think. The authors are a little more troubling. I'd like to make them a list of tuples: [ (first_name,last_name), (first_name,last_name),...] to facilitate searching for a particular author (so that only Larry Carin's papers are displayed on his page). Is there a way to do this sort of thing with ZClasses? Also, I want the Add form to have places to browse for the pdf and ps files - much like a Zope File object - and then add these files to the PubClass object. Is this best done by creating a class in python or with the ZClass interface? thanks, eric

wrong value for integer variable?

I have the followin in my html page:  <!dtml-call "manage_changeProperty(numtemp = numtemp + 1)">  numtemp is an integer property of the html page. When trying to run the ZSQL Method update_AccessCounter(), I get an error saying "Invalid integer value for numtemp". Here is update_AccessCounter(): update WRTable set numruns =  The possible cause for this that I can see is GetRuns() is not returning an integer value. If so, how can I force it to? GetRuns currently is: select numruns from WRTable And numruns is declared an integer in WRTable. If I am wrong, and GetRuns is sending back an integer, what is causing this error? Thanks! Donner

[more deleted] I agree that ZClasses are much easier than Python. Of course, every solution can have a million possible alternates, and this one is no different. One possibility: make a standard ZClass (ie no explicit subclassing) and add the necessary fields on a propertysheet. The Author could be a lines property so that each author's name is distinct. The Catalog should be able to search this. If there was a way to "link" from one ZClass instance to another, then you could have an Author object for each author and just have the publication point to the Author object. There are certainly ways to do this programmatically now, it's just not automatic. This way, an Author could have other properties (contact info, website address, etc.) if desired, and those properties are only stored in one place. Kevin

manage_access: show permissions for a user

G'Day! How can I get to the source of "manage_access"? That's the link if you click on the security tab and does exactely what I want to do: Checking in DTML if user X has permission Y to access file Z. In my opinion, it should be something like:  but this call does not exist, and with manage_permission I can only change permissions, but not display them. Any help out there? Gadfly Problem with 2.0b?

I was testing out Gadfly 2.0b on my 486 server here <g>, and it seems that I can't get Gadfly to read an existing database. All that I did was copy the files for the database over from /usr/www/users/jsight/biddin/pyPit/programsdatabase to /home/jsight/Zope/var/gadfly/programsdatabase. I did a cd to the database's directory under Zope and opened up the Python interepreter and opened the database with "connection=gadfly.gadfly('.','pyProgramsDatabase')". This worked, so I got a cursor and did a "cursor.execute ('select * from pyLibraries')" and printed the results. All was fine up until this point. Then I used my browser to open the management screens for Zope, added a connection to "programsdatabase" and added a new SQL method with no arguments which consisted of "select * from pyLibraries". However, from here when I click add and test it tells me that there exists no relation pyLibraries! Could someone please explain to me why this might happen? Perhaps there is something that I am missing in regards to how to actually setup the database connectin? All of the status screens say that the connection is open, though. Question about users...

Okay, I'm a Zope newbie. I installed it on my laptop to muck with it, and so far I'm impressed. But I'm having some trouble...I tried to create a new user and add that user to the "Manager" role. I then changed the permissions in the Security tab to let Manager have some privs to do things. The only problem is, no matter what I try, I can't log in as that user. I would have thought I could just pull up a browser on another machine somewhere, point it at my laptop, and log in. I can do this as the superuser, but not as the new user I created. Not at all. I don't see much in the docs about logging in as another user, either. Nor do I even see how to log *out* once you log in as the superuser (help?). All this is using the 1.10 RPMs linked from zope.org, as well as the zserver instead of running with apache. Help? --Donnie
