Building a cache on an object

I'd like to construct an associative cache of information, which would basically be a dictionary. My first thought was to create a property that was a dictionary, and store values in the dictionary. Unfortunately, none of the allowable property types corresponds to a dictionary. Can I add a dictionary directly to an object such as a folder or DTML method? -- A.M. You start off pretty simple, and eventually you're writing code to attempt to detect aggregates in the select clause to differentiate between where and having, and then things get _real_ ugly. .. but it works under linux

there must be something subtile which lets the pcgi-wrapper fail under freebsd and not under linux. I used the same source code. I rebooted to linux and zope worked as it should .. but installing e.g. postgres is painful there .... (at least from mandrake rpms, maybe i should switch do debian which is the most freebsd-ish linux version).

creating one ZClass instance in the constructor of another

Hi, Brian Hooper and I have been trying to figure out how to add ZClass instances via DTML... and I've finally figured out what I've been doing wrong... The couple of examples that were tried in the original messages below could be corrected by doing: <dtml-call "Control_Panel.Products.Guestbook.Guestbook_add(_.None, _)"> (Note: my code is actually a little different, because I'm working with different products and classes. YMMV) For me, the whole trouble was that the namespace wasn't set properly for the add method to run. An alternate syntax is: <dtml-call "manage_addProduct['Guestbook'].Guestbook_add(_.None, _)"> There is a side-effect here from the default add method that I didn't want: the default method will redirect to the management screen. So, I ended up just doing: <dtml-call "Control_Panel.Products.Guestbook.Guestbook.createInObjectManager(REQUEST['i d'], REQUEST)"> In fact, in my current situation, I am making a new ZClass subclass instance (KMYear is a subclass of KMArticleStore). In this scenario, I can just call: <dtml-call "KMYear.createInObjectManager(newID, REQUEST)"> After all of that, I believe that I will ultimately change my add method to behave the way I want, because I will be using it in conjunction with a Findable class. I just wanted to pass along all of the ways that this can work, for anyone else trying to instantiate ZClasses with DTML. Zope 2.0 is still betaware, but you may want to take a look at it. There is a Find facility in 1.10.3, but it is nowhere near as fast and flexible as ZCatalog. If you are comfortable installing beta code, look in your Zope 2.0b1 installation in lib/python/Products/ZCatalog/ZCatalog.txt for some docs on using the ZCatalog. A ZCatalog is an object that can store text and field indexes of Zope objects. You can, for example, ask a Catalog to text index the contents of all your DTML Documents, or to field index all the objects with the property 'favorite_color'. Then you can create search forms to call the catalog and get a list of objects which match your search criteria. Novice Question: Text search of DTML Documents and Methods?

Hi Everyone, I've just started working with Zope, and it seems I've had a bit of bad timing with the moving of the documentation and stuff on the new web-site; I'm having trouble finding stuff. So my apologies if the answers I'm looking for are right under my nose somewhere. ;-) Is there some documented way of searching the contents of Zope Folders and Documents? And if so, can one search within properties as well? And if not, where would be the best place to start for implementing this? Many thanks, Joe

I believe I got a similar error when I was mistakenly using commas to delimit the arguments in the Z SQL method. Be sure the arguments listed there are in the format "argument1 argument2 argument3" rather than "argument1, argument2, argument3" Sean
