Zoptists, I had success running the downloaded source of Zope2.0.0a3, so I wanted the get the CVS checkout to stay up to date. The checkout process went fine, but when I try to run z2.py. I get this traceback(last line): Import Error:no module named ExtensionClass I checked the directories and indeed there is no module named ExtensionClass in there. Funny thing is that the Download 2.0.0.a3 doesn't have it inside /lib/python/ZODB either, but it worked fine. I am using Python 1.5.2 on Red Hat 5.2 i386. Any ideas? Cutting, copying and pasting products

Given the "obscure" nature of the internals of any given product from the point of view of the Zope management software, I can see why it might not be desirable to duplicate product "instances", but how can one move products around the database and into folders other than the one an "instance" was created in? It is possible to move folder objects around, but products can supposedly only be cut, copied and pasted in the products directory. Could anyone give a rationale for this? Regards, Paul

long computations

I have a problem with a particularly cpu/memory intensive calculation. The current server implementation is in Tcl (tclHTTPD) and uses Python as the calculation engine in a separate process. To avoid running out of memory I implemented the calculation as a server and just add jobs to a server queue. The tclHTTPD implementation allows me to keep the server busy as http requests come in and to resume pages when jobs are finished. I can see how to implement most of the logic in Zope2 (assuming each request is in a separate thread), but how can I handle the case when the request is prematurely aborted. In my existing implementation I detect this when the http socket becomes readable and then do a cleanup to remove the request from the queue. -- Robin Becker

How bad things can go if a running Zope is just killed ? Isn't it possible to install a Python signal handler to do a clean shutdown ? PS: anyone has an SysV init script for Zope ? Petru

The look, feel and even functionality of the Zope site is being substantially revisited and upgraded. I believe that the results (which will be an implementation of Portal Toolkit technology) will be worth the effort. Naturally, the new logos will be incorporated into the new design. I'd ask everyone to bear with us. We are still learning how to work this thing :^). The concern about two logos is certainly known and felt here and we will be deprecating the older logo as soon as the new site is available. In general, I'd like to thank everyone in the Zope community for helping us all do well. It never ceases to amaze me how the community has grown and prospered (zope, zope-dev, zdp, zip, BBQs, etc.). The whole thing is incredibly MOTIVATING! I _know_ there's a long way to go but here's a collective pat on the back for everyone... Tks, --Rob

ZMySQLDA module compilation

Hi everyone, I am having trouble with the dynamic library MySQLmodule.so, compiled from version 1.13 of the source code from the ZOPE website. I read the message in the Bugs collector which says... ***********snip snip************ Description: missing linker file You may need to add -lgcc in Setup ie -lmysqlclient -lgcc -lm if you get an error when you import MySQL **********snip snip************** but it doesn't solve my problem. here is the error I get when i try to import this module into a command-mode python session as advised in the documentation: >>> import MySQL Traceback (innermost last): File "<stdin>", line 1, in ? Zope 2 Roles / Security

Can someone clearify the Roles in Zope 2... The documentation (apparently for Zope 1) covers the Anonymous role and the Manager role, but Zope 2 adds the Owner role which is not covered. I am assuming that Owner would be equivilant to 'God' while managers are subordinates. If this is an incorrect assumption, please let me know.
