Restart bug *and* shutdown bug

Hi there, Any progress on the restart bug front? I am having trouble with regular shutdowns too, not only the previously reported restart weirdness. When I start the linux binary install with the 'start' script on RedHat 6.1 (with the latest upgrades), I get strange behavior with 'shutdown' in the Control Panel. When I do shutdown, and go back to the management screen, Zope is still running, until I do *another* shutdown. Sometimes I even have to do three shutdowns to get Zope down. This happens with clean Zope 2.1.2 installs. This is really annoying when you're developing products. The restart bug was difficult, but not being able to shut down reliably makes even my workaround unworkable. So is there any progress on this? Presumably the restart and shutdown problems are related. Last I saw it was discarded as a RedHat 5.2 specific bug, but it definitely isn't. At least not here. Regards, Martijn

Help tab

I happened to see this in one of the How-To's (http://www.zope.org/Documentation/How-To/AdvancedDTML) "One way to find out about the services available to you through DTML is to consult the Help tab in the management interface. " ...and which help tab would that be, exactly? ^_^ I know there's a "helpsys" folder inside lib/python, but I've never actually seen anything labeled "Help" in the interface. Simple ZSQL question -- variable expansion in dtml-if?

I'm attempting to write a ZSQL method which has the following behaviour (the exact case below is a little more detailed): When the passed X parameter is 1 it issues the following SQL: SELECT * FROM table WHERE col=1 When X parameter is 0: SELECT * FROM table And when X is -1: SELECT * FROM table WHERE col=0 My attempted ZSQL is below (a little more complicated that the above). CatParent and Approved are passed in arguments to the method: SELECT * FROM Categories <dtml-sqlgroup where> <dtml-sqltest CatParent type=int> <dtml-and> <dtml-if expr="Approved == 1"> <dtml-sqltest Approved type=int> </dtml-if> <dtml-if "Approved == -1"> Approved=0 </dtml-if> </dtml-sqlgroup> ORDER BY CatName The problem is that the "Approved" variable in the dtml-if clauses does not appear to be getting expanded to its value. It doesn't improve if I replace it with "_['Approved']". What am I missing? While I'm new to Zope I *think* that should work per what I've read. Instead for all values of Approved I get: SELECT * FROM Categories WHERE CatParent=### ORDER BY CATNAME and Approved never gets mentioned. The database (ZODB) is colocated with the Zope server process. It's likely in a manufacturing scenario that you'll be integrating relational data as well (e.g., from Oracle/Sybase). The RDBMS server can run on any machine -- though for obvious reasons it should be topologically close to the Zope server. Performance is a hard thing to measure because of all of the variance in testing methodologies. So, take the following with a grain of salt. "Moderately" complicated Zope apps can do ~1M hits per day on garden variety hardware (P3 450). More hardware usually means more hits. With respect to enterprise class applications -- we (Digital Creations) have developed an app for a customer that they use to publish inventory and backorder levels from a 9TB (yes, TB) Oracle inventory and parts database worldwide. It's been up for over two years. However, there are a lot of folks on this list that are running their entire businesses on Zope. Regards, --Rob

using cvswrapper filters? (tangentially related to zope...)

(sorry for the only-tangentially related message - but I figure it's probably of some use to other Zope users. if you disagree, please flame me in private, rather than cluttering up the list even more than I already am :) I'm (finally) getting things set up at work to store Zope releases (our code, on top of the DC code) into a local CVS server. For completeness, I'd like to store the Data.fs file in CVS as well, but preferably gzipped - looking at the CVSROOT/cvswrappers file, I see: -f from cvs filter value: path to filter -t to cvs filter value: path to filter This isn't documented in the red-bean CVS book, or in the normal online docs... has anyone played with this? Will it allow me to store Data.fs gzipped in the repository? thanks, Anthony
