SyBase connection problem

Hi, I am new to Sybase. I have installed the SybaseDAv2 product without problem on Zope, I can see it in the product list. One immediate question is: does SybaseDAv2 assume a particular TCP/IP port number (like 4100 or 4002)? If so, how can I change that number? How can I change the the hostname and port number in general? In general, how does SybaseDAv2 know what host and what port number the database is serving from? Is there any configuration file? How does one supply things like username and password in SybaseDAv2 to the Sybase database? Am I asking the right questions? I have tried to tweak the "interfaces" file in Sybase itself so it serves at the port number 4100 or 4002, but neither choice improved the situation. expression in a tree tag?

Sorry to keep bothering everyone with my numerous questions. Here's the latest... Given a URL like this: http://servername/Projects/ProjectName/Path/To/Document I can use <dtml-var "_.string.split(URL0,'/')[4]"> to get the name of the project. However, on pages in the ProjectName folder, I am using a tree to show the docs available. If my tree tag is: <dtml-tree expr="ProjectName" ... everything works. I want this code to work for multiple projects however so I tried: <dtml-tree expr="_.string.split(URL0,'/')[4]" ... but this doesn't seem to actually evaluate the method call as I got a name error for _. freaky folder

Hey all, I wrote the list yesterday about a zope problem that I'm having. A couple of people responded, but I still haven't been able to solve the prob. I have been able to get a little more specific idea of what's wrong. Hopefully someone can HELP ME!!! =) This is what is wrong: I have a folder that has a BUNCH of sql methods, couple of dtml pages, and a bunch of plain ol' methods. In my old install of zope, I can get in and mess around in the folder, no prob. I see all the methods, etc. Now I get new web server, a wild hair up my ass, and I decide "hey! wouldn't it be neat if I could upgrade to the latest ver of zope when I switch it over? YEAH!!" So I convert the old db, import it into the new ver of zope, and everything looks copasetic. I check my site, and the database is working right, it's serving up the content right, heck, I... am... stoked!!! Then I get into the management area. I log in as superuser (like I've always done), and everything looks fine... until I try to get into my training/centers/manager folder. "That's-when-things-got-out-of-control", to coin a phrase from song I like. Instead of showing me the methods, etc., that are in the folder, it brings up the standard_header web page in the frame where its SUPPOSED to be showing me the list of methods, etc. That is the problem. Doesn't seem that complicated, (I think. ha ha) it's gotta be just some funky conversion error, or some such. Here are the things I've tried: First, I tried copying and renaming the folder in my OLD zope db, and then exporting the old db to the new zope db again. No dice. (I was thinking maybe since the name of the folder is 'manager', there is something funky going on.) So that didn't work. I really tried all kinds of ways of exporting the damn folder. I tried copying the methods into other folders, and exporting them, and that worked, but there are WAY TOO MANY to piecemeal them, one by one, into another folder (like 70 or so... maybe not WAY, but still too many, if I can help it). and I still wouldn't know what was originally wrong. (its something that bugs me... not knowing why bugs do what they do, and just going around them. Sometimes they have a way of jumping out at you when you least expect it. =) Annywaze... Nick G. recommended messing with UserDb a little. I tried clearing cookies, logging in as different users, and logging in from different machines. Still no dice. I've copied and pasted the folder within the new zope db, (it copies fine) but it don't matter, every time I go into even a copied and renamed folder, it does the same thing. I'm thinking this must be a conversion issue, which in my mind isn't that bad, since I can piecemeal the damn methods, etc, into a new directory and THEN export 'em, if I *have* to, and this won't come back to haunt me. The scary thing for me is, I don't *know* its a conversion issue, and it would suck to piecemeal the crap only to find it was something else causing the freaky folder nature. If, even with this longer description, know one knows what is happening here... well... oh well, I guess. But it would be neat if someone says "oh, NOW I know what your talking about! All ya gotta do is click on the 'fix error' button in the upper left hand corner!" could happen, right? right!?! =) Thanks for yall's help ennywaze though. Expecially Nick and Michel. You two were quick with suggestions, even though this is obviously just a 'newbie-ish' error (I hope) . -ps if it IS some easy answer, please email me personally... cataloging SQL data

can anyone give me a quickie HOWTO on cataloging SQL data? any gotchas would be appreciated. I havent started on the proof of concept (on NT ... ick!) but we are interested in cataloging a large set of data and using the Zope catalog to do the searching. the main reason we want the zope catalog is to give hand back a result set that is ranked by relevance (any have any experience w/ relevance ranking of search results?) what would the pro's or con's be for using Zope as the main method to access data inside a SQLServer? i.e. I'm thinking of Siteserver's catalog that has some form of linguistical summation (prob. not the right tech term)/abstraction of free-text fields. and siteserver kinda does some relevance ranking... in summary: I have a proof of concept to show how relevance would be incorporated by search results coming from Zope's catalog mechanism which would index sqlserver data. digicool has said they have done this w/ one of their clients. I have not seen much information on this in the public sector. I will most likely need this done by beginning of next week. questions FOR YOU: have you used zope's catalog for this? why wouldn't you? how does relevance play apart in the zCatalog? is there max. size a catalog should be? How to write a method using DTML Method?

How would I convert the following Java code into DTML? This is just an example, I don't understand how methods are used in DTML. String getFirstName(String name) { String lastName = name.substring(0, name.indexOf(' ')); return (lastName); } I would like to see a DTML method which does this, how it is called and how the result is used in the calling method. Yeah, thanks, I'm using Oracle on Linux (for which I can interrogate the USER_TABLES or ALL_TABLES as well as DESCRIBE - from memory), and ODBC on WIN32. AFAIK there's no counterpart to DESCRIBE for ODBC but you have to rely on lower level ODBC functions to obtain column names, descriptions, etc. This info should be available to Zope and I'd prefer to get it from there if at all possible, for purposes of RDBMS independence and portability. I also require transactions, which AFAIK puts mySQL out of the picture. There appears to be a very common, question swirling around the zope mailing list, how to integrate Zope & Apache. I thought I would chime in with my two cents. Also employed here is the proxy caching mechanism of mod_proxy to serve .gif files so that Zope is not having to serve these files for each request. One more feature here is a random rewrite map to pull zope content from multiple zope servers. This is just the beginning phases of a broader load balancing solution that would allow for dynamic selection from a pool of active Zope servers, with possible classing Zope servers as having changeable ZODB or R/O ZODB. Then mapping which URLs should be served via which server(s). This rewrite map file can be altered while Apache is running and the changes dynamically reloaded via the mod_rewrite engine. This would allow an external monitoring process to alter the map file based on Zope server loads and/or availability. This is not the entire picture but I think it's enought to put out here and get some feedback. I will write this up as yet another Apache Zope HowTo if you think is is a worthy approach. Does anyone have extensive experience using the SiteAccess Product with ZDiscussions and/or Catalog Aware ZClasses? This is one sticking point we are having with serving VirtualHost, via one Zope ZODB. (Actually are there any other alternatives to SiteAccess that people are using?)
