I have installed Zope on a 300Mhz K6 machine with 92 Megs of RAM running Windows 98. It seemed to install ok except that it didn't ask if I wanted to run as a service (as the documentation said it would). As a result I had to start zope with start.bat. It doesn't run. Who in the world can I talk to about this. I'd love to use the product but it's not much use to me if there's no one I can communicate with about problems - particularly problems like "It doesn't run!". Can anyone suggest a place for me to go or a way to get answers?

database query

Is anyone familiar with Chapter 10 of the online Zope book, 'Relational Database and Connectivity'? I am trying to set up a mySQL database but I am going to go through the Gadfly examples in the book first. It couldn't make it any clearer how to construct the table but it gives me an error every time! INPUT: CREATE TABLE students ( student_id integer, first varchar, last varchar, grade float ) ERROR: The call can not be completed as dialed. Error Type: IOError Error Value: [Errno 13] Permission denied: '/usr/local/Zope-2.1.6-src/var/gadfly/demo/demo.gfl' I am using server space on ZopeSite.com. 'Permission denied' suggests to me that maybe there has been an oversite of the ZopeSite owner in defining permissions - but, as I'm relatively new to Zope, what do I know?!? Zope Book - Chapter 9 - 2nd sentence: "You can also use it to search external data such as relational data, files, and remote web pages." Can anyone point me to further information on how to do these things? Thanks, Chris

Searching Problem at Zope.org

Search results at Zope.org seem to turn up a number of items with the wrong URL. For instance, a search on ZCatalog returns the How-to on building a searchable job board (http://www.zope.org/Members/mukhsein/job_board_howto) but the link in the search results page is to http://www.zope.org/. A number of results are just linked back to the home page like this. Chris

As well as posting such vague commens such as "The tutorial doesn't work" How exactly is it not working? When have you ever received an answer to a technical question without providing specifics? If this is a known issue with the tutorial, chances are someone else has found this out on this list and someone posted an answer or a fix already. Try searching this list before you post. You could probably use ZCatalog in conjunction with LocalFS to accomplish this; I think LocalFS was recently revved to allow cataloguing. Note that the actual mass-indexing process is going to be *painful*, as ZCatalog is intended to ease incremental indexing. I think I would write a script which walked the hierarchy, calling a method to index one (or a few) messages at a time. This script might also need to pack the database at intervals; the catalog is a bit space inefficient across mutliple index/reindex operations. It is included in the zope-distribution or can be found at http://www.zope.org/Members/itamar/load_site It doesn't do XMLDocuments, but I found it a great help in figuring out how to inject a bunch of external files into zope. Help - cannot import zexp

Hello! Please help, I have a problem importing my zexp. Initially I created the exported zexp while debugging some External Method. The method is declared as follows: def navigation_leftColumn(self, _, render=default_render): ... where default_render is a helper function, defined in the same .py file: def default_render(self, _, alist=None, indent=0): ... Later I deleted the entire folder and tried to import zexp to return to saved position. Zope raise the error: "Cannot import default_render from module __main__". Oops! What's that? The default_render isn't in __main__, sure. Passing lists in a get request (ZCatalog Search)

Zopistas, I have a catalog aware ZClass publication object that I want to have searchable. There are 3 criteria I want users to be able to select in addition to a search string textbox. I created field indexes for the criteria in the zCatalog, and made a form where users can select the indexes with checkboxes to limit their search. The selected items are then passed to my search method - which in turn executes a <dtml-in> to produce the result set. The whole thing works great, until I decided to try to add column sorting functionality (Like the zope downloads page). Here is the problem, I run the query and the page comes up correctly on the first iteration, but when I try to sort the column (with a ?sort_on=index "get" request), the selected criteria are forgotten and the entire result set is returned sorted. for example, one of my search criteria is "theme" - there are four possible (Air, Land, Water, and Waste). the request would look like: search?meta_type=Publication&theme=Air&theme=Land&theme=Water I can't figure out how to pass a list in the get request. How do I pass more than one theme to the method as a list? I have discovered through trial and error that I can pass it the values if I repeat theme for each list item. However, I also have a criteria - "category" with over 32 items, and a criteria - "division" with 14 items. This becomes extremely clumsy with "category=reports&category=guidebooks&division=lwm&division=aqd" etc. repeated 32 times. Not to mention that there is a limit of how much info I can pass in the get request itself. Is there a better way to pass the lists to my method? Thanks in advance! -Darin Lee
