If you don't have permission to ungzip the file, probably has an mode bit setting or is owned by a different user. su to root chmod 777 Yourfile.tgz exit gunzip Yourfile.tgz That should do it. Newbie, trying to follow the installation HOWTO...

As a linux newbie, I like the ease with which I can install and delete packages with Redhat Package Manager (on a machine for which I have root privilege). The installation/Upgrade HOWTO is (explicitly) not for RPM installation. The HOWTO discusses some security features that I would like to impliment (like "installing as a User", "starting as Root", and "running as Nobody"). I'd like to follow those suggestions, but have to use the Zope-2.1.2.ppc.rpm that I created from a src.rpm . Problem is... you must install and delete RPMs as root, so I can't take the good security advise above. So, I've decided to try dumping the rpms and installing from src (no LinuxPPC binary that I can find). If anyone has a suggestion for using the rpm and achieving the goals of the HOWTO, I'm open to suggestions. Trying to follow the suggestions in the HOWTO, I have followed them to the letter (installing as a user) but have Permission Denied when I even try to gunzip the .tgz source file. Zope and FileMaker5 via ZODBCDA

Has anyone on the list gotten Zope and FileMaker 5 for Windows working together over ODBC ? I am getting the following Zope error when trying to use the ZODBC connection : ('S1000', 16394, '[FileMaker][ODBC FileMaker Pro driver][FileMaker Pro]Connect failed') FileMaker says it supports basic SQL queries over ODBC and includes an ODBC driver which I have setup as per instructions. thanks for any info., Darcy

manage_upload

In response to my own previous email about uploading files, I have another question: Has manage_upload been replaced by manage_addFile? I was reading basically every email message from the past 4 months on the archives to try and see if had possbily been answered and at some point everything regarding upload files via a form starts refering to manage_addFile instead of manage_upload. sqlsession

Anthony, I was thinking of using the sqlsession product but some of the column names you use are reserved in Interbase ( either 'name' or 'value' ). how to get the value of size of a word-document

Hi, I select "file" from the Available Objects list and add a MSWord-File with the id "myDoc.doc" Zope will add this object. Klicking on this object will show me the following screen: Id : myDoc Title : formular Content Type : application/msword Precondition : Size : 66,048 bytes Last modified : 2000/01/25 19:41:7.68741 GMT+1 How can I get the value for size of the uploaded doc-file to show it into a index_html for instance ??? The value of "Last modified" I get with: <dtml-var bobobase_modification_time fmt="%d/%m/%Y - %H:%M"> thank you regards nico

Newbie Questions (or maybe not... ;-)

Hi, I'm hoping these both have simple answers. Firstly, is there any way you can make component DTML methods such as standard_html_header (and maybe other objects) invisible to the outside world? It's messy (and possibly a security hazard!) if they're not, for example, take a look at http://www.zope.org/standard_html_footer. This isn't really the sort of thing you want visible on its own but what if that method actually did something like delete files/etc... Secondly, is there any way you can specify a parent object of the same name in a DTML method? What I want to do is build up standard_html_header as you get deeper into a directory structure, for example: in / standard_html_header is: <HTML><HEAD><TITLE></TITLE></HEAD><BODY BGCOLOR="#FFFFFF"> in /dir1 standard_html_header is: <dtml-var standard_html_header> Some more text for a header... and so on... Of course, this generates an infinite recursion. So what I'm asking is if there's any way to tell the dtml-var call in /dir1/standard_html_header to use the standard_html_header in / rather than in /dir1? Cheers for any help, Chris

Loosing namespace when calling a DTML-Method

Hi, people! I'm a Zope newbie and have a big big problem which i could not find anything about on the lists. I'm using the zope package that comes with debian linux potato (2.1.2) and the problem is the following: When i call a DTML Method with dtml-var or dtml-call, the called method cannot access any object. Not REQUEST, not an with dtml-let or dtml-with assigned variable, nothing. Further the called method cannot access any Objects in it's own folder, even when i wrap it with <dtml-with folder> (which is just the same problem). Accessing the same variables inside the calling function works just like expected. When i change the DTML Method to a DTML Document, it cannot access variables from outside, but gets an Authentication error when accessing objects in the current namespace My current workaround is to code everything in Python, as this works just great or to do everything in one big DTML Method. But this is not a long term solution! I see two possible explanations for this phenomenon: i totally misunderstand the Zope-security model, which is not unlikely, or my Zope installation is buggy. (I hope it is the first one as i dont feel like installing a full featured Zope with PostgresSQL binding and dont want to wait for the 2.1.3 .deb) Has anybody an idea what's going on? thx, bertl

Need help : Zope servers hanging.

Hi all, I need some help here - over the past few days two different Zope servers have gone into the 'hanging' state, where they don't reply to further requests. When the first event happened I didn't take a 'top', today, I've managed to get one. The process causing the problem is 12482. From previous messages, I believe that the python CPU can go up to 100%, obviously this isn't happening here. This happened when I asked the Zope server to make a MySQL query. The MySQL server is running fine and I can get to it from a command line interface. Both servers are Zope 2.1.2 source distributions running under Solaris 5.6 This server is running three different Zope sites using Apache as the backend (ie I'm using pcgi to get to my servers). I can't get to it using the pcgi route (ie a ReWrite Rule from Apache), nor from the ZServer incarnation of the server. I also can't get to it from the monitor connection (telnet localhost 8099). I can't let this situation continue as these are live sites. I need to restart the server whenever this happens.
