Zope Sites and Info Needed to Convince Boss

I have been trying to convince my boss for a few months to try and build our database driven website in Zope. The first round they built it in ASP (www.gotfundraising.com) and now not only is it slow and difficult to manage but it does not work the way it is supposed to. So here I am trying to convince them to build it Zope (again). I have tried to talk about Open Source about functionality, about developer communities etc. Here is where his argument comes down to. 1) If you (me) get hit by a truck I will not be able to find anyone else to fix/build in Zope. 2) Can Zope scale to a big site and won't we just have to replace it with something else? 3) There is no technical support. 4) ASP is simple and a "standard" So I have put together a list of articles, sites and arguments but I would love if anyone out there who has dealt with this situation can send me more material (I have combed www.zope.org) Anything would be great, sites running Zope, examples of what you have done, experience with ASP vrs Zope, comparisons to bigger products (Vignette). This is one area where I really think Zope.org, Digital Creations and the user community need to strengthen which is the availability of information on the product, comparisons, etc. If Zope, like Linux is going to work and grow it needs to battle the FUD of all other products. Whatever I get back will go towards an article/posting on my member page of Zope.org. Thanks for all your help, JMA

Database/E-Mail

I have a question/request which I need help with as I havn't a Clue on how to approch or set this up. I have a mySQL support type database setup. What I want to do is have an e-mail address where any support related items will be entered into the database automactily. Where I send an email to rthe server, the server looks at the e-mail contents, adds a new record to the database, with the subject, message, and any files attached. Can this be done easily and if so could someone give me a hand with the code or setup. Rheal J. Hmmmm... as I'm not using Windows, I'm not really sure what you're seeing. At this point we must unfortunately make some implicit assumptions about our user base. zope as e-learning environment

Everitt, who referred to this mailinglist) Hello Zope people, I'm involved (as a educational developer) in a team to set up a e-learning environment for the Koning Willem I College in the Netherlands. We did some little experience with Zope (by Kees Roozendaal with the help from Kees de Brabander from the Leiden University). What pleases us (of course) is the fast, flexible and free way of building. I've compared some existing e-learning surroundings and now we have to make the choice and try to get the green light from our board of directors. Part of comparisional and part of immediate knowledge we do feel for Zope, but as a non ICT-expert I woulde like to have some answers/confirmations about the following items: -is it easily possible to build a learning item bank and to recall the (labeled) learning-topics (for chancing or transfer)? -is it easily to make an input option for student-data from the college registration system? -is student routesequency and -tracking (and gradebookfaclity) to make? -what about getting help? and the most important: -other systems are claiming to work with AICC, IMS or CMI-standards what about Zope? I should be very pleased with a qiuck answer and wish you all the best with Zope. Do objects have exist in DB to be shown in tree?

Hi, How is traversing the ZODB managed? Does Zope look up the root object and ask it to (recursively) return a given child, or does it go through the physical data itself? I need to create a "folder" with subobjects mirrored from another folder, so my subobjects won't be existing in the DB before somebody modifies their values and saves the changes. Hm. I've tried it with IE5 and I seem to recall that it worked ok. It's possible that the cookie value is of a form that IE5 doesn't like. Try tweaking the cookie name generation code. RESPONSE.redirect

Hello! Is it a bug or I am doing something wrong? I am trying to create DTML Document test-cookie1: <dtml-call "RESPONSE.setCookie('jwt_test', 'JWT Test')"> <dtml-call "RESPONSE.redirect('test-cookie2'))"> <dtml-var standard_html_header> <h2><dtml-var title_or_id></h2> <p> Please wait... </p> <dtml-var standard_html_footer> and when I press "Change" Zope instead of saveing the Method CALLS it! Oops!!! I think Zope is trying to compile the method and while compiling really does the redirect. I removed call to RESPONSE.redirect, and was able to save the method, but how I put the redirect back? Hello Eron, The Zope Guides online are up to date with the current Zope version 2.1. http://www.zope.org/Documentation We are creating a process which will allow the Zope community to contribute to our core documents using several methods. We currently use Adobe Framemaker for official documents and that doesn't allow for community contributions. Amos, Rob and I are exploring XML DocBook for a standard platform for the guides. When the process is formalized, we will have more "open" documentation. The ZDP continue to provide steam with their efforts and make weekly announcements concerning their accomplishments.
